President Joe Biden has spent an extraordinary amount of speech time decrying the firearm industry’s existence. He’s repeated the same lies over and over. He’s called more than 375,000 Americans that work for lawful firearm and ammunition businesses “the enemy.”
No one could blame the president’s chief speechwriter for announcing he’s jumping ship and leaving The White House.

The claims the president has made against the firearm industry are indefensible. No one should hold their breath, though, that the president will change his tune regarding his gun control agenda or the lies he says about the firearm industry.
What would help is if President Biden instead listened to his own words about the good the industry has done. The campaign is called Real Solutions, Safer Communities for a reason.
Rose Garden Real Talk
There was a time when then-Vice President Biden understood the effectiveness of the firearm industry’s Project ChildSafe. It’s just one pillar of the multipronged Real Solutions Safe Communities effort. In more than two decades, Project ChildSafe has partnered with more than 15,000 local law enforcement agencies in every state and U.S. territory to provide education materials and free firearm safety kits. This includes handing out more than 40 million free gun locking devices. Combined with the locks included in every firearm sold at retail, that number tops 100 million.
What did Vice President Joe Biden think about this program? He let the truth slip out so he can be taken at his own words.
In 2013, then-Vice President Joe Biden held a White House meeting in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook tragedy. He spoke to NSSF then-CEO Steve Sanetti and referring to NSSF, the president said, “You guys are doing a lot of good things, including the gunlock thing. And this isn’t Joe Biden just blowing smoke. I mean it.”
Fast forward to 2021 and current NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi expanded on the program’s successes during a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on safe firearm storage. Bartozzi explained, “We know the program works. In the 22 years that Project ChildSafe has been in existence, we know that fatal [firearm] accidents have decreased by 40 percent,” he said. “There’s a lot that goes into that, but fatal firearm accidents are at the lowest point on record since 1903. We are seeing progress and progress is a good thing – it means we’re having an impact.”
Repeated Lies
Over the past two years, the gun owning community grew by at least 14 million new first-time gun owners. It’s increasingly diverse, with double-digit growth of women and minority gun owners. That’s an inconvenient fact the Biden administration ignores instead of embraces. They choose instead to go soft on criminals and demagogue law-abiding gun owners. They choose to politicize the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to punish the firearm industry instead of regulate it.
In speech after speech, President Biden has repeated the partisan gun control talking points from gun control groups against the firearm industry. His lies, written no doubt by speechwriters, have been fact-checked as false many times. That includes wrongly stating the firearm industry is, “the only outfit in the country,” with liability immunity, to making false claims about home-built firearms and private gun ownership in the early American colonies. The president’s words have been termed, “wrong” and “false” and even been urged, “he needs to stop making this claim.”
Real Solutions
Project ChildSafe is an effective and successful firearm safety program. It’s been recently highlighted in cities across the country, including Detroit, Albuquerque and Troy, New York. It’s just one NSSF program working to make safer communities.
The Don’t Lie for the Other Guy initiative is a partnership between industry, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to prevent illegal firearm straw purchases and warn the public it is a crime punishable by 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Operation Secure Store assists firearm retailers to improve security at their locations to deter criminals from stealing firearms. One component of the program matches ATF reward offers up to $5,000 to bring to justice criminals stealing firearms. Since launching the number of burglaries and firearm thefts have been trending down.
The FixNICS campaign improves the FBI’s background check system by changing the law in 16 states and in Congress to increase reporting of disqualifying adjudicated mental health records. NSSF increased state submissions by a 266 percent increase since 2013.
NSSF also partners with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Department of Veterans Affairs on efforts to have a “brave conversation” and reduce the tragedy of death by suicide.
If the president wanted to make genuine efforts at reducing criminal and negligent firearm misuse and the resulting tragedies, he could work with the industry that already has a proven track record of success in those areas.

Kathy Hochul and Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams for a “Gun Violence Strategies Partnership” meeting to talk about how to solve the crime surge, particularly those involving firearms. Instead of real solutions, the focus devolved into blaming law-abiding gun owners and again pushing a gun control agenda. “Enough is enough,” President Biden said. “Because we know we can do things about this, but for the resistance, we’re getting from some sectors of the government and the Congress and the state legislatures, and the organizational structures out there.” That “resistance” the president spoke of is the American people. Over the past two years they’ve become fed up with police defunding policies and soft-on-crime prosecutors, like Manhattan’s Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg. They’ve invested in their own safety. The “resistance” is the 21 million lawful gun buyers in 2020, including more than 8.4 million first-time buyers, and the 18.5 million gun buyers in 2021, with more than 5.4 million first-timers. The ”resistance” has backstopped Congress from passing federal gun control that don’t address crime. It also stopped President Biden’s nominations of paid gun control lobbyist David Chipman to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and banking activist Saule Omarova as Comptroller of the Currency because not even all U.S. Senate Democrats could support them. They would have turned those agencies into bludgeons to hammer the firearm industry to achieve a special interest, gun control agenda. Favorite Falsehoods The president turned his aim from lawful gun owners towards the firearm industry and repeated a lie he’s rehearsed several times before. “Imagine had we had a liabil… [sic] they’re the only industry in America that is exempted from being able to be sued by the public. Only one,” the president protested. “Why the gun manufacturers?… It’s got to end. They’ve got to be held responsible for the things they do that are irresponsible.” He repeated the claim for emphasis. “And I find that outrageous.” This is flatly false. The president knows by now, or his speechwriters do and they don’t bother with the facts. CNN, Politicfact and Washington Post have all checked President Biden on his remark, including after he said it in the White House Rose Garden. CNN cleanly rebuked it. “This is false. Gun manufacturers are not entirely exempt from being sued, nor are they only industry with some liability protections.” Politifact rated it “false.” Washington Post wasn’t kinder, saying, “Biden is wrong to claim the gun industry is totally immune.” The firearm industry has liability protections under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), bipartisan legislation enacted under former President George W. Bush. The firearm industry cannot be held liable when unaffiliated third-parties, in this case criminals, misuse a legal, lawfully sold product. It’s fundamental tort law and is similar to an individual attempting to hold Ford and Budweiser responsible for drunk driving deaths. The law was passed in direct response to lawsuits filed against the industry by control groups and municipalities like the city of New York and the state of New York. These type of lawsuit continue to be filed, now even by foreign governments represented by the same gun control group, the Brady Center. Colonial-Era Error President Biden continued to ignore facts on the Second Amendment and its history. He even erred when speaking about the Revolution-era days and why the right to keep and bear arms was so sacrosanct. “When the amendment was passed, it didn’t say anybody could own a gun and any kind of gun and any kind of weapon,” President Biden remarked. “You couldn’t buy a cannon, and when – the – when this, uh, this amendment was passed.” It did, and does, say the right of the People “shall not be infringed.” Even The Washington Post was brutal in their assignment of “Four Pinocchio’s” to this statement. “Biden has already been fact-checked on this claim — and it’s been deemed false. We have no idea where he conjured up this notion about a ban on cannon ownership in the early days of the Republic, but he needs to stop making this claim.” In fact, the Constitution of early America – before the Bill of Rights, and Second Amendment, was even ratified – granted and encouraged “special waivers” to American merchants and sailors, “allowing private individuals to act as pirates on behalf of the United States against countries engaged in war with it.” Americans given waivers and who owned warships obviously also obtained cannons for use in battle. In fact, it is still perfectly legal to buy a cannon today. It is the presidents’ fundamental misunderstanding and blatant lying about the Second Amendment that informs his gun control agenda and misguided approach to solving the crime problem. Millions of law-abiding Americans took ownership of their Second Amendment rights to protect themselves, understanding the president won’t. Instead of mangling the meaning of the right and pushing for more gun control on law-abiding Americans, the president should keep it simple. The Fed raising interest rates is a joke. 75bps being the largest they’ll discuss in a hiking cycle? LOL, they need 1975bps just to be in the ballpark.
You need to exceed the real rate of inflation in order for this to be a useful exercise, usually by at least 10% of the real inflation rate. Realistic CPI inflation YoY is over 17% right now, but if you add in the things that matter like food and fuel you’re closer to 20%. That means that at this point you’re talking an Fed Funds rate north of 20%. For comparison, the “Volcker Moment” was 14.2% on less than $1T in debt and a $3T GDP. Now you need 20%+ on about $30.4T with a $24.8T GDP.
That would cause the destruction of the USD when .gov defaulted on the debt about 10 minutes after the bond market opened the next morning. In fact, you wouldn’t have to wait that long since UST bills are traded on international markets.
A bunch of loonies will tell you that this isn’t true because the Treasury can shift short-term obligations to long-term obligations.
That’s a 38 letter way to spell “default”.
This isn’t The Truth about Fiscal Policy, so I’ll stop there and just say that the Fed needs to cease to exist and fiat currency needs to go extinct.
That’s a hard truth but it is, nonetheless, true. Governments worldwide have spent a century proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they cannot be trusted with the tool known as “fiat currency”. Such a currency is like a opiate based painkiller. Powerful and exceedingly useful if used correctly but if used incorrectly the addictive properties will turn the user into a slave with a quickness. The latter is exactly what has happened and most people have no clue it’s occurred. The only thing that’s kept the USD going as long as it has in the post-WWII period is the fact that everyone else is more addicted to this drug, making us the most-functional-junkie.
The Fed itself is an absolute joke. You don’t fight inflation by raising rates. You fight it by cutting spending (but that’s like hard for us, so instead, we’ll make it hard for you). Why did they hold off on raising rates, when they raised them four times in 2018? Because they’re political! In 2018, they didn’t want Trump to get too much credit for a soaring economy. In 2021, they were holding out to give the Dems a chance to pass massive spending proposals. They still passed irresponsible spending proposals (and still are), just not as much as they wanted. Recall how everyone pretended that inflation wasn’t going to be a problem, then it was just transitory, then the slow admission that, yeah, well, it’s here to stay. Sucks to be you! I guess we lied! Let’s move on to the next crisis!

I imagine some people use those cheap-@$$ locks to reduce the chances of a baby or young toddler being able to harm themselves with a firearm.
