President Joe Biden is nominating an Obama-era U.S. attorney to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as his administration unveils its formal rule to rein in ghost guns, privately made firearms without serial numbers that are increasingly cropping up at crime scenes.

The White House confirmed that Biden is announcing the nomination of Steve Dettelbach, who served as a U.S. attorney in Ohio from 2009 to 2016, in a Monday afternoon event. The administration is also releasing the finalized version of its ghost gun rule, which comes as the White House and the Justice Department have been under growing pressure to crack down on gun deaths and violent crime in the U.S.

Dettelbach’s confirmation is likely to be an uphill battle for the Biden administration. Biden had to withdraw the nomination of his first ATF nominee, gun-control advocate David Chipman, after the nomination stalled for months because of opposition from Republicans and some Democrats in the Senate.

Both Republican and Democratic administrations have failed to get nominees for the ATF position through the politically fraught process since the director’s position was made confirmable in 2006. Since then, only one nominee, former U.S. Attorney B. Todd Jones, has been confirmed. Jones made it through the Senate in 2013 but only after a six-month struggle. Jones was acting director when President Barack Obama nominated him in January 2013.

The Biden administration’s plan was first reported by Politico.

For nearly a year, the ghost gun rule has been making its way through the federal regulation process. Gun safety groups and Democrats in Congress have been pushing for the Justice Department to finish the rule for months. It will probably be met with heavy resistance from gun groups and draw litigation in the coming weeks.

Gun Owners of America vowed that it would immediately fight the rule.

“Just as we opposed the Trump Administration’s arbitrary ban on bump stocks, GOA will also sue Biden’s ATF to halt the implementation of this rule,” Aidan Johnston, the group’s director of federal affairs said in a statement. The group believes the rule violates the U.S. Constitution and several federal laws.

But gun safety advocacy groups, like Everytown for Gun Safety, which pushed the federal government for years to take action on ghost guns, applauded Biden’s moves and insisted that both Dettelbach’s appointment and the finalized rule will help combat gun violence.

“Ghost guns look like a gun, they shoot like a gun, and they kill like a gun, but up until now they haven’t been regulated like a gun,” said John Feinblatt, Everytown’s president.

Christian Heyne, the vice president of policy at Brady, another gun control group, said Dettelbach was “an unimpeachable public servant who has spent a career using the levers of government to hold negligent or nefarious actors accountable.”

The new rule changes the current definition of a firearm under federal law to include unfinished parts, like the frame of a handgun or the receiver of a long gun. It says those parts must be licensed and include serial numbers. Manufacturers must also run background checks before a sale — as they do with other commercially made firearms. The requirement applies regardless of how the firearm was made, meaning it includes ghost guns made from individual parts, kits, or by 3D-printers.

Federally licensed firearms dealers must retain key records until they shut down their business or licensed activity and then transfer the records to ATF as they are currently required to do at the end of licensed activity. Previously, these dealers were permitted to destroy most records after 20 years, making it harder for law enforcement to trace firearms found at crime scenes.

Some states, like California, have enacted laws in recent years to require serial numbers to be stamped on ghost guns.

The critical component in building an untraceable gun is what is known as the lower receiver, a part typically made of metal or polymer. An unfinished receiver — sometimes referred to as an “80-percent receiver” — can be legally bought online with no serial numbers or other markings on it, no license required.

    • And on the other hand…After spooky so called ghost guns are serialized may come serialized gun owners like Jews were serialized in nazi germany. After all history confirms such insanity comes with Gun Control wherever it has been and wherever it goes.

Unfortunately when a knee jerk opportunity arises for some individuals to point fingers at race by populace the same bigotry inherent with Gun Control oozes out on this forum.

Since history confirms bigotry is inherent with Gun Control gun owning bigots on this forum wind up being just as much a problem for Gun Rights as any Gun Control zealot. IMO…They need to shape up or ship out.

      • As long as the choice is binary in the ballot box, nothing changes, which is the plan for those in charge.

btw – as of this comment there are no post-facto stipulations in the new rule; it is just an attack on small businesses that will no longer be allowed to sell frames, jigs, and bits as kits and have to keep all of their paperwork for much longer than 20 years.

        • Shhhhh… Nobody is supposed to own Unintended Consequences any more. It’s worse than owning The Turner Diaries, only worse than that. It’s horrible. Just horrible. (grinning as I caress my autographed first edition) God, how I love that book!
Oh, I’m really Allen Cain and Tammy is shacking up with me now!

      • +1 for the Tropic Thunder wordplay, dude. One of the best lines from the movie, among a handful of classic ones.

        “Whoa!…whatchu mean, ‘you people’?”

“What do you mean, ‘you people’??”

  1. At this point I don’t care what the law or government says. And once I’m a felon why not go ahead and make a hardware store suppressor and install a giggle switch? in for a penny, in for a pound.

  2. Just gotta say, Biden not nominating a guy to lead the ATF that wasn’t standing on top of a pile of bodies at Waco and had ties to Ruby Ridge is likely a smart move.

Lets see what violations this tool bag announces.

  3. Will Chipman apply to become Dettelbach’s deputy? And Dacian apply to be the lackey and knob polisher for both of them (kneepads supplied)?

  4. Serializing up to a dozen parts in every firearm will be a regulatory & enforcement nightmare.
What happens when a part breaks or wears out ???
How do you put a serial number on a tiny part ???
It will take 10 years just to digitize all the info into a system & thousands of mistakes are likely. Not to mention that there are already 350,000,000 guns out there already.

    • It’s my understanding that this effort is focused on receivers only. CA tried to go down the path of regulating “any part or precursor part that directly attaches to the receiver or frame of a firearm”. That would have included triggers, grip enhancements, springs/levers/pins, hammers, slides, locking blocks, et al. It proved to be too much of a hassle, and was eventually reduced to only the receivers. Our CA version of this stupid endeavor takes effect on July 1.

      Long 3D printers, then.

  5. Ok…every 80% lower requires a serial number with this in place. You can’t sell one without it. As a serialized part, a NICS check is required unless you have a state issued license to carry.

As this makes buying an 80% lower pointless, there is also an equally pointless effort to prevent people from machining their own lowers from plain ordinary blocks of metal or polymer. To say nothing about collecting aluminum cans from the side of the road for melting down and making a lower.

The only reason any of this becomes an issue in the first place is as a result of such strict gun control laws put into place in certain states. If they wouldn’t do that then none of this would even be a topic of discussion.

  6. So apparently ghost guns don’t hold dna or fingerprints either huh? Totally invisible to camera recordings which must be where the ghost part comes from. The magic is where it stops facial recognition I suppose.
    Untraceable or Incompetence?

  7. ‘…privately made firearms without serial numbers that are increasingly cropping up at crime scenes.’

Are they? Or is that just what the media claims?

    • Come on Gov. William you have had to have read my posts documenting the sky rocketing crime and mass murders with ghost guns. In case you missed it I will post it below.

      • I wasn’t saying unserialized weapons haven’t been used in crimes. More like suggesting that they’ve always been used in crimes (ever heard of a zip gun?) yet were and are a tiny fraction of crime guns. The only thing that’s changed is the media hype. If you make it easier to steal a gun than to build your own you haven’t really accomplished anything.

      • You mean your stupid, irrelevant posts listing a few anecdotes??? Is THAT what you mean, dacian the stupid???

You can’t even effing DEFINE “ghost guns”, and neither can your vaunted and beloved (when they are oppressing US) LEOs. “Ghost gun” is a made-up, undefined term, just like “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines”, all used by lying propagandist Leftist/fascists such as yourself.

Just go back to your circle jerk, dacian the stupid.

      • And F-Troop’s definitions of a “ghost gun” not only include kit guns but also includes regular guns with defaced serial numbers and guns they haven’t got around to tracing yet.

        Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

    • Increasing count of ghost guns because different LEO orgs have recently started counting any defaced gun as a ghost gun. There has always been defaced serial number guns but now they have a scary name to lump them into.

      Liars got to lie.

Are ghost guns frequently used in violent crime?????????????????????????

Yes, ghost guns are increasing being used in shootings across the country.

In July 2020, an individual who was prohibited from possessing guns allegedly murdered two people in Pennsylvania using a homemade 9mm handgun.9

In November 2019, a 16-year-old shot five of his classmates at Saugus High School in California—two of them fatally—using a homemade handgun, before fatally shooting himself.10

In August 2019, a shooter used a homemade gun kit to build a .223-caliber firearm that he later used to fire 41 shots in 32 seconds in a bar in Dayton, Ohio, shooting 26 people and killing nine.11

In 2017, in Northern California, a man prohibited from possessing firearms ordered kits to build AR-15-style rifles. On November 13, he initiated a series of shootings that began with fatally shooting his wife at home, followed by a rampage the next day during which he fired at multiple people in several different locations, including an elementary school, killing five people and injuring dozens more.12

In 2013, a shooter opened fire in Santa Monica, California, shooting 100 rounds, killing five people, and injuring several others at a community college using a homemade AR-15 rifle. Reporting indicates the shooter had previously tried to purchase a firearm from a licensed gun dealer and failed a background check, potentially indicating why he opted to order parts to build a gun instead.13

Law enforcement officials around the country are sounding the alarm about the dramatic increase in the recovery of ghost guns at crime scenes in their communities. ATF reported that approximately 10,000 ghost guns were recovered across the country in 2019.14 Ghost guns have also been illegally trafficked to Mexico.15 In addition:

In 2019, Washington, D.C., police recovered 115 ghost guns, a 360 percent increase from 2018, when they recovered 25 ghost guns, and a 3,733 percent increase from 2017, when only three such firearms were recovered.16

In 2019, ATF reported recovering 117 ghost guns in Maryland with almost 25 percent recovered from Baltimore alone. Ghost gun recoveries in the state then tripled in 2020.17
According to law enforcement in Philadelphia, ghost gun recoveries in that city rose 152 percent from 2019 to 2020.18

The special agent in charge of the ATF Los Angeles Field Division reported in January 2021 that 41 percent of the division’s cases involve ghost guns, and a May 2019 statewide analysis in California found that 30 percent of all guns recovered in connection with a crime in the state did not have serial numbers.19

In addition, an investigation by The Trace found that ghost guns are increasingly becoming the weapon of choice for violent white supremacists and anti-government extremists.20

In conclusion the ATF is a law unto itself and as in the past it rules at 8:00 AM and it is then a new “regulation” (disingenuous term for new law) is now the law of the land at 5:00 PM.

No Judge Conservative or Liberal will declare the ATF ruling illegal or Unconstitutional because ghost guns are a danger to the people of the country and even the much ballyhooed Scalia decision with the usual double talk and smoke and mirrors declared “The Courts had the right to regulate firearms” (slick disingenuous term for ban or restrict firearms).

In conclusion your right to own a weapon rests with the rulings of the courts, not the Constitution, and history has proven this reality like it or not.

No sane person would want ghost guns legal and no other civilized nation tolerates them.

    • dacian : In conclusion your right to own a weapon rests with the rulings of the courts, not the Constitution, and history has proven this reality like it or not.

Correction – your right to own a weapon rests in your ability to hold on to it. History has proven that.

        • “In conclusion your right to own a weapon rests with the rulings of the courts, not the Constitution, and history has proven this reality like it or not.”

So SCOTUS gets to dictate the USC? You mean the set of nine black robes that said it’s constitutional to murder defenseless babies (arguably American citizens in utero)? The ones who ruled on behalf of the nation in 2012 that gay marriage is not recognized, and then two years later the very same group of Justices ruled it is and we must all accept it? You mean the same SCOTUS that has allowed blatant infringements on the 2A (a very famous part of the USC) to stand?

I’m curious to know if you live in your mom’s basement, or your grandma’s.

        • Haz, there’s a reason they’re still calling for dems to (try to) pack the court. It’s much easier than pushing the agenda through Congress.

        • We don’t listen to ANTI CONSTITUTIONALISTS. Try reading the 2nd A Darcy. When when you ever realize that criminals DO NOT OBEY GUN LAWS? If you haven’t figured it out yet, it’s what makes them CRIMINALS. If you don’t like citizens owning guns move to China.

    • It seems that in all the cases you mentioned, people were already breaking the law. It has been shown over and over that lawbreakers do not care and the only thing that matters is the jailtime.
The war on guns is the new war on drugs – a war that won’t be won.
Teach responsible gun use and punish gun misuse. Yes, some will continue to misuse firearms, but making that the primary crime(instead of a plea bargain enhancement) would punish those and allow the law abiding to have defensive protection.

    • You give all these examples as if your trying to convince everyone that criminals use guns when no one has ever disputed that.

      • “Lol don’t care.”

That’s foolish, when they care very much about the issue…

    • dacian the stupid,

You are FAR too stupid to be aware of this, but the plural of “anecdote” is not “data”. F*** right the hell off, you lying POS propagandist Leftist/fascist buttnugget.

    • A free society does NOT limit the rights of it’s Citizens because another Citizen abuses those rights. Only the individual who abuses their rights is punished.

A free society does not allow Citizens to use the power of government to limit rights of others for things some may not support.

Get bent if you do not agree.

  9. Cars have VIN numbers, having or tracing a VIN number has never, not once, prevented a criminal from stealing a car or using a car to kill someone or commit another crime using the car.

Likewise, having or tracing a serial number on guns and gun parts does not prevent a criminal from killing someone using a gun or commit another crime using the car.

The very fact that the so called “ghost gun” shows up at crime scenes only shows that guns show up at crime scenes where guns were used, the same happens for guns that are not “ghost guns” and left at crime scenes.

There has never been, not once, a person convicted of a crime where a gun was used because a gun and left at the crime scene that either had or did not have a serial number. It takes showing that a person actually (‘beyond reasonable doubt’) committed the crime to convict them, not that a gun had or did not have a serial number.

    • Step 1. To Bad Booger Brain that you do not understand that criminals and lunatics that were denied the purchase of a new gun through an F.F.L. then build a ghost gun. Step one ban them.

Step two ban private sales between individuals which is another source of thousands of guns being sold to criminals and lunatics.

Step 3. Pass safe storage laws to prevent most robberies that are smash and grab as well as saving the lives of over 1,300 children a year and preventing the permanent crippling of 4,000 children a year.

This is elementary and any one who is of sound mind and will can easily understand this.

By the way your analogy of Vin Numbers is ludicrous and childish as Vin Numbers do not prevent criminals or lunatics from buying a car and then using it to run down people. All they need is the cash and the deal is done.

And by the way genius boy a Vin Number was used to catch Timothy McVeigh after he set of his bomb that killed 280 some people.

      • “By the way your analogy of Vin Numbers is ludicrous and childish as Vin Numbers do not prevent criminals or lunatics from buying a car and then using it to run down people. All they need is the cash and the deal is done.”

The very same thing can just as easily be said about guns.

        As for McVeigh,
It is not disputed that forensic investigation can result in catching criminals. Thats why its done.

        • to Prndll

The Vin number on a tag on the axle of the truck was traced to the rental agency which traced the vehicle being rented to McVeigh

My quote——All they need is the cash and the deal is done.”——-quote

quote————The very same thing can just as easily be said about guns———-quote

You just made my point on the necessity for Universal Background Checks and Safe Storage laws.

        • @dacian

This would never be affected by universal background checks.

Your confusing ubc’s with serial numbers. Even with ubc’s, failure to report someone renders the whole thing useless. Too many mass shootings have happened by people that were green lighted. When convicts are not reported, none of it means anything.

      • dacian the stupid,

I really do believe that you require an homunculus to ride upon your shoulder to remind you to breathe – you are LITERALLY that stupid.

“Step 1. To Bad Booger Brain that you do not understand that criminals and lunatics that were denied the purchase of a new gun through an F.F.L. then build a ghost gun. Step one ban them.”

Because no one has EVER done anything that was made illegal or banned, have they???? We have no “drug problem” in the U.S., because all “dangerous drugs” are illegal, and importation is banned, and you can’t legally buy them, and it is illegal to manufacture them in the U.S., so . . . we have no drugs in the U.S., amirite??? Do you ever freakin’ READ the stupid s*** you post?????

“Step two ban private sales between individuals which is another source of thousands of guns being sold to criminals and lunatics.”

Because gangbangers, street thugs, and professional fences never sell stolen merchandise, right dacian the stupid??? Make it illegal, or require a NICS check, and all sales of second-hand or stolen firearms will stop, immediately – just like there is no market for stolen flat-screen TVs or computers, right, dacian????

“Step 3. Pass safe storage laws to prevent most robberies that are smash and grab as well as saving the lives of over 1,300 children a year and preventing the permanent crippling of 4,000 children a year.”

First of all, please document for me all of the “smash and grab” gun thefts. “Smash and grab” is what your criminal ANTIFA/BurnLootMurder thugs do; most semi-intelligent criminals just burgle houses. If they have a gun, you steal it. If they don’t have a gun, but have a big screen TV or a computer, you steal that.

Please document EXACTLY how, even IF we had “safe storage” laws, it would “save 1,300 children”, because that is a flat-out LIE.

“By the way your analogy of Vin Numbers is ludicrous and childish as Vin Numbers do not prevent criminals or lunatics from buying a car and then using it to run down people. All they need is the cash and the deal is done.”

A VERY apt and accurate description of virtually EVERY street sale of a gun. Thanks for playing, you total mouth-breathing moron.

      • Your Federal UBC would only work you will need complete firearms registration.

And even then there will be millions of unregistered and off-books guns to be traded among criminals.

The cartels might find it a profitable sideline to put a case of guns with every drug shipment. There are plenty available between the Rio Grande and the Darien Gap.

    • Once they can show who owned the gun, then they can make that person liable for any crimes done with that gun. They want liability insurance, this will create a whole new community of lawyers, who will target the registered owner, just like what traffic accident attorneys do now.
Remember, most politicians have been through law school.

  10. If you live in Illinois, contacting you Republican representative does not matter with the super majority the Chicago commiecrats have. The commiecrats can enact anything they want. Illinois just enacted a ban on 80% lowers last Friday.

Illinois Ghost Gun Ban Bill, Passed in Dead of Night, Appears to Ban the SIG P320 and P365, Unserialized AR Uppers

    • Our CA version of this proposed Federal change is already law, and takes effect on July 1.

We’ve already required all 80%-originated lowers to be serialized since the end of 2018. Now CA will require BGCs just to purchase a non-firearm. Clown world.

Nevada tried this last year when their own version was rushed through by their new Democrat majority, but was struck down in court shortly before the effective date. I foresee a litany of lawsuits being pressed against these bills/laws/rules nationwide.

  11. Help me understand how this will stop people from acting criminally.

If the goal is to stop ghost gun crime, show me how ghost gun commits a cime.

  12. The Far Right because they suffer from advanced paranoia are always their own worst enemies. By blocking common sense gun laws that make it much more difficult for criminals and lunatics to acquire firearms they only guarantee crime will continue to escalate including mass murders. Then the simple solution and the least costly to the government is simply to bow to public pressure and start banning guns.

Remember the London Bridge incident in London when a bunch of Lunatics were even denied shotgun permits. They tired to mass murder people in a bar with knives and got the shit beat out of them. Once again proving gun laws do work.

As I have said many times in the past Registration helps gun owners far more than it hurts them because when all guns are vetted or better yet registered it becomes far more difficult for criminals and lunatics to get firearms. When was the last time that you heard of a mass murder with a Thompson Machine Gun or a belt fed MG42 or M60. Just a few of the examples that prove that yes registration does work and work well.

I might add that registration is not necessary to ban or confiscate firearms either as when a weapon is banned the penalties are so severe the average citizen knows its not worth trying to keep it as you could never take the chance of getting caught when shooting it or using it in self defense or selling it to someone’s without paperwork. In short is becomes totally useless to you. And remember, the myth of the Revolutionary “Minute Man” was a myth in 1776 and is an even bigger myth in 2022 with the mass electronic surveillance we all have to live with everyday. And remember the myth of the Minute Man was again proven a farce when Trumps Jack Booted Nazi Storm Troopers that tried to take over the government by force were turned in by their own relatives.

    • No one tried to take over the government..

You must be running short on your meds. Better get someone to drive you to the phamacy.

      • Manse, seriously what planet do you live on? Turn off the propaganda machine of Foxy News and find out what has happened and is happening on planet earth. Next you will be telling us what a genius Putin is.

        • Certain moves Putin made were genius with respect to his goal but he is a lunatic. Haven’t you ever played any kind of game against someone that made smart moves? The Democrat Left have made genius moves too with taking control of certain key areas like large cities. But they are lunatics too.

If anyone tried to overthrow the US government on Jan6, it was progressives in their ongoing attempts to destroy this country.

        • to Prndll

quote—————-If anyone tried to overthrow the US government on Jan6, it was progressives in their ongoing attempts to destroy this country.————-quote

Quite a ludicrous statement since everyone so far thrown in jail were Far Right Jack Booted Lunatics who worshiped and kissed the boots of Herr Drumpf. That would not be the behavior of progressives and not one has been arrested because no progressives stormed the Capitol. I might add the organizers were from Far Right groups as well such as the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. Trying to call these criminals Progressives is trying to say Trump is a liberal who does not believe in racism.

        • @dacian

Many claimed Trump is a liberal and still do. We have all been told how he is not a conservative. By people like you.

      • Remember, folks. herr dacian the nazi has claimed to be a member of the ss/antifa.

Anything he tells you is pure propaganda.

        • No, jwm, not “pure propaganda” (although he certainly TRIES to propagate Leftist/fascist propaganda). What dacian the stupid spouts is more “the demented, incomprehensible rantings of a stupid, deranged lunatic”.

    • “tried to take over the government by force”
A coup or ‘take over’ done without a single gun?
….man those American flags, red hats and Trump flags CERTAINLY HAVE POWER! Using those alone almost defeated one of the worlds largest and most well equipped armies in all of history!

  13. Lol okay. So now “ghost guns” will be as regulatory compliant as non-ghost guns and we all know those are never used in crimes by people who aren’t lawfully to have them.

    More pointless BS.

  14. You may or may not have noticed but this “rule” also bans buying an AR upper without a background check. In fact all uppers will need to be serialized too and subject to the same rules as lowers now.

This is massive over reach and show that the ATF and DOJ can arbitrarily redefine any aspect of a firearm at any moment to achieve any goal.

I’ve always kind of rolled my eyes at the “abolish the ATF” folks, today I join the club.

    • It’s a total violation of the 14th Amendment Equal Protections. As much as we don’t like Federal Firearms Legislation, whatever Executive Fiat that China Bootlicker Biden and his Jackboot Thug ATF impose,……will violate Federal Legislation.

  15. So what else could the ban and serialize? Home made knives? Probably several million of those. Home made axes, well, maybe a few thousand of those, How about home built baseball bats? Replacement ax and hammer handles. Homemade slingshots? Bows and arrow.
How long before they come after the home reloading hobby? Serialize primers and projectiles?
Time to put a stop to the insanity of the anti-gunners.

  16. There are ~350,000,000 guns in hands of over 40% of the law abiding American public. This is one step away from requiring all those to have serial numbers on all their parts, for example, on a bolt carrier and if you don’t then all your life being a law abiding citizen was wasted because you will then be a felon overnight when such would be enacted. Think of it, 40% of the U.S. population made felons overnight.

Come on world, we’ve see this plan before. Its the plan of all insane dictators, its only the people and the thing that changes. Remember WWII and that guy called Hitler?

All this current Biden crap is another step towards mandatory turn in or confiscation and eventual elimination of gun ownership as a right for law abiding people. Its the basics of the same plan concept Hitler implemented against law abiding Jews in WWII…

first it was demonizing the law abiding Jews in the eyes of the public and cause public outcry against the Jews by using fear mongering and false information, like Biden and his anti-gun freaks try to demonize law abiding gun owners in the eyes of the public and try to stir public outcry using fear mongering and false information.

second it was curtailing and removing and restricting the rights of law abiding Jews, like Biden and his his anti-gun freaks want to curtail and remove and restrict the rights of law abiding gun owners.

third it was forcing law abiding Jews to ‘register’ their property, like Biden and his anti-gun freaks keep pushing for a “universal registration” for law abiding gun owners property (guns).

fourth it was requiring that law abiding Jews wear special wear identifiers such as armbands, or badges in the shape of the Star of David, like Biden and his anti-gun freaks want law abiding gun owners identifiable by a national firearms registration and “universal registration”.

fifth it was tattooing the law abiding Jews with a ‘serial number’ and confiscating their property (and off to the concentration camps with them). We are here with serial numbers on all gun parts.

Yes, Biden wants to implement one more part in his Hitler’esque plan for law abiding gun owners, hes just not doing it in the same order Hitler did.

    • 24and7,

We’ve been working on NTexas to stop HIS deranged shouting; now we get you.

Learn how to turn off your “caps lock”, @$$hole.

  18. Has the Ghost Gun Rule officially been announced?

I know TTAG has been very big on reporting the Illinois and Maryland Ghost Gun Bill.

    • JP Ruiz,

Biden merely announced his ATF was “going to” release its new “ghost gun” rule; it hasn’t been officially released, yet. I expect it will happen any time, now, and I’m sure TTAG will report it, when it does. In order to be officially “promulgated” the rule has to be published in the Federal Register, etc.

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t published by early next week, at the latest. Might even hit as early as tomorrow.

      • and when it does hit millions of law abiding American citizens will become felons over night simply because the upper of their AR-15 doesn’t have a serial number thus are in illegal possession of a “ghost gun” (even though the lower has a serial number) even if it was commercially manufactured. Just the upper receiver by its self will be considered a firearm requiring a background check and FFL, even if commercially manufacturered.

        • Essentially, this new crap from Biden/ATF bans the AR-15’s already in possession of millions of law abiding citizens by making them illegal as “ghost guns” because the upper receiver doesn’t have a serial number and the upper is considered a firearm under the new rules.

      • So Upper Recievers and other Firearm Mechanical Parts need to be registered with serial numbers and background checks, right? (The document is absolutely written hooplah).

  19. The smart move in this thread and every other thread is to ignore the individual who goes by the name Dacian. He could be an FBI plant or CIA operative. You never know. So don’t respond to his asinine B.S. and all will be well on earth.

    • Lucille,

Not even the demented government trolls at ATF or FBI can feign the level of absolute idiocy achieved by dacian the stupid on the daily. No, unfortunately, our resident cockroach, dacian the stupid is the real thing – a complete, brainless, Leftist/fascist, mouth-breathing moron of a demented lunatic. Trust me, he was this stupid and insane when he was posting here as “Vlad”, a couple years back.

There was an effort some time back to “ignore him; he’ll go away”, but dacian the stupid is too stupid to get the hint. Instead, now, we just mock him mercilessly.

He is too stupid to insult, so mocking him is our only revenge for him inflicting his idiocy on us.

  20. Is a serial number the magic talisman that somehow prevents a firearm from being used in a crime? Does a serial number somehow make a firearm less lethal? How does a number on a firearm that has changed hands who knows how many times since new make easier to track to a particular crime or criminal?
Since the claim for the need to have numbers on the firearm is to allow it to be tracked down, how does that stop the crime from happening? Any and all such tracing is done after the fact.
The majority of tracing of firearms used in violent crime id done by markings on the spent cases or rifling marks on the projectile.
Just as with the Saturday Night Special crap from back in the 1970’s, when 1 type of class of firearm is restricted or banned, those who would commit violent crime will just find another source of weaponry. And no firearm to date has ever gone out and committed a crime without it being in the hands of a human. Deal with the humans committing the crime and the hardware will become irrelevant.

  21. Serious question. Is there any study available that demonstrates what this will accomplish? Is this just an effort to stick it to the gun nuts (political enemies), and get more rules on the books that they can selectively enforce? They aren’t even enforcing the gun laws already on the books. They’re letting felons plea down so they won’t be prohibited in the future. They’re letting some prohibited people go with a slap on the wrist. They’re refusing to even investigate some “gun related” crimes (looking at you Hunter). As usual, this has nothing to do with public safety. That’s just the selling point.

  22. Well okie dokie. hates gunms, now what is his ideas about Alcohol and Tobacco?
Never hear anything thing about that being part of the job.
