Chick-fil-A restaurants have a well-earned reputation for courtesy and cheerful employees. And their loyal customer base reciprocates, coming back time and again for the good food and great service. So when Willie Gloston IV decided to pull an armed robbery at a CFA in Atlanta, well, he made a profound error in his victim selection process.

It didn’t go well for him, but in the end it might have been the luckiest day in his life.

Employees evacuated the business when Gloston drew his gun, but customers confronted him in the parking lot. The instructor in me screams that taking on a bad guy who’s trying to leave the scene is never a good idea, however I didn’t see what happened. Perhaps Mr. Gloston the Fourth pointed his gat at innocent bystanders, causing sheepdogs to take action.

Either way, one armed chicken lover produced his (or her) own heater and fired a few shots, causing Mr. Gloston⁴ to run as if his hair was ablaze.

It did him little good as other bystanders apprehended him and held him until police arrived.

The Epoch Times has the story:

An armed person stopped an attempted burglary in Atlanta this week, police said.

On March 8 around 3:03 p.m., officers responded to a Chik-fil-A (sic) on Peachtree Street.

“Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses who stated a black male walked inside, produced a firearm and demanded money from several employees. The employees fled and the suspect exited the business a short time later. Several nearby citizens confronted the suspect as he was leaving. One of the citizens was armed and at some point, during the confrontation, the citizen fired several shots. The suspect ran on foot and was apprehended nearby, by the citizens and held until police arrived,” the Atlanta Police Department said in a preliminary update sent to The Epoch Times.

“The suspect’s weapon was recovered. No one was struck by the gunfire and charges are pending against the robbery suspect. No charges have been filed against the citizen and the investigation continues,” the department added.

The suspect was identified as Willie Gloston IV, 23. The arrest report does not show an address for Gloston.

The suspect was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is being held in the Fulton County jail.

If there’s one fast food restaurant that’s a guaranteed poor choice for a successful armed robbery attempt, a busy Chick-fil-A is probably it. Even here in Illinois, where only 4% of adults have carry licenses, there are almost always a few pistol packing patrons present during busy times.

  1. Thankfully the perp did not strike at opening and closing time and there were citizens around willing to help.
It takes one despicable self serving pos to target people who have to get up everyday and go to work and with little time left come home to take care of household duties.
Self serving perps take everything and everyone for granted and when one runs into a brick wall it’s a good thing.

    • Doesn’t everyone love a story with a happy ending? ;_

      • I must have missed the part where the citizenry cheered this guy’s arrest and then burned down the restaurant, went home and made something remotely healthy in their own kitchen, consumed whatever that healthy thing was and vowed to God-Almighty that they’d get their cholesterol numbers balanced out and BMI down to sub-blimp numbers…

        • and then made a personal life choice to support pro 2a voting…

“bUt iT wAs A whItE gIrL thAt BurNEd DoWn tHe WeNdy’S”…

probably just another skipped over story because it was a white guy stopping crime. Not factually relevant to factless opinion pieces.

        • A simple oversight, sir.

They were too busy with the training to be ashamed at the color of the skin they were born with…

  2. Willie the…fourth?!? Did you make 1,2&3 proud? I’m guessing he’s a victim of raciss behavior😏

    • In this instance IV isn’t the generation in which he was born.

It’s a sequential serial number for the production run from which he comes.

      • oof. that one punched right in the chest. not my chest tho… someone, had the wind knocked out of them.

    • His great grandfather (Sr.), grand father (Jr.), and father (3rd) would have to be alive today for him to be the fourth. Not just the 4th POS in that family with that name.

      • Well, with human biology in mind while we do some math, Sr. could have been less than 40 whenever IV was born, and there could be V and maybe even VI waiting in the wings. Check the papers, there may be a generational pic of 6 Willies in the society pages.

  3. A name can tell you so much about an individuals parents and their upbringing. Call a kid named William by the nickname Willie is unremarkable. Formally naming them Willie speaks to a profound lack of judgement and class.

    • As Hank Williams Jr sang…”It’s a family tradition…..” Not just once, not just twice, not just three times a Willie….but, four times a Willie!!!!! Betting Willie IV will get to “catch up” with Willies I, II, and III in the Big House. Hopefully, Willie IV will be in prison long enough there won’t be a Willie V. But, then, It’s a family tradition…….

  4. Perhaps I’ve not been paying attention long enough. And, perhaps as a result, I don’t have a reliable “index of reference” about the trends of armed criminals becoming more or less aggressive and brazen.

But this story is one that reinforces mine and my wife’s desire to legally carry arms.

  5. Another example of why CCW citizens need to practice with their “gat.” When a CCW draws and starts slingin’ lead, they better hit what they’re aiming at. Had the citizen hit the perp, he might have saved the State of Georgia and its citizens a lot of expense for the trial and housing the scumbag in an institution of Higher Scum Bag Prep. Guessin’ he was jus’ gettin’ mo xtra cash for his’n college tuition and books. Surely, jus’ turnin’ his’n life aroun’.
Betting the restaurant had “HIRING/JOIN OUR TEAM” signs prominently displayed. Perp would rather rob the joint than earn an honest living. Hopefully, Scumbag IV will be in prison long enough there won’t be a Scumbag V…….

    • saved the State of Georgia and its citizens a lot of expense for the trial

What trial? Willie IV was probably back on the street before the dinner rush… Or copped a plea to being dumb in a no dumb zone, Bailiff whacked his pee-pee and with credit for the two or three hours he sat in jail they sent him on his way…

  6. Chick-Fil-A is the chicken equivalent of Taco Bell or any other fast-food joint.

The wages of Chick-Fil-A are the same; either minimum wage or congestive heart failure depending on which side of the counter you stand on.

This guy’s lucky. The State probably will feed him better than fast food ever could.

    • I haven’t eaten fast food in probably ten years, and I’ve never had Chick Fil A. That said, a cursory web search shows that they pay well above federal minimum wage as starting pay and even average above most states’ minimum wages, excluding (obviously) extremes like Washington and California. So make of that what you will.

      • as far as fast food goes… chik fil a is one of the only places I go. Rarely. But not bad. I know the local one here in Montana starts at a decent wage (especially considering the job) and always seems to have very professional people working there.

      • He’s right, Strych.

They pay better than most in that industry, and that’s reflected in the prices they charge for that cholesterol… 😉

      • Good for them, they turn high school kids into slightly better paid merchants of a slow death.

        • Then don’t eat it. Are you for banning fast food or are you happy with just being contemptuous of strangers?

    • This is one of the few instances where you are completely wrong. Chick-fil-A is owned by Christians, they are closed every Sunday, they hire the nicest and most polite people (even the teenagers are pleasant and respectful), and their food is real. Order a chicken sandwich and you are getting real chicken breast, not some pancake thing that is 1% chicken and 99% breading. Or, like Taco Bell, being sued for being less than 25% ground beef. Their fries are waffle cut, so they aren’t 99% starch coating. Their employees even walk the floor and bring you free refills on your drinks.

If you haven’t eaten at Chick-fil-A, you should.

      • You haven’t been paying attention. The Chick-fil-A, which is run by a former Obama Administration member, ditched the Salvation Army, supposedly because they wanted to go in another direction. It is believed they were ditched because the Salvation Army doesn’t mince words about homosexuality. They hold to what the Bible says. Apparently, that was too much for the Chick-fil-A organization. How’s that for helping Christians? The Founder just died and I suspect that they’ll open on Sunday in a few years. Once a founder is gone, everything typically goes south in a few years. Witness Wendy’s, which now tries to be everything to everybody, instead of the old emphasis on Hamburgers. Dave Thomas died and now they are all over the place.

        • Witness Wendy’s

And KFC… The Colonel died, they sold out to the Koreans and it’s been on a downhill slide ever since…

  7. Two minutes on a search engine comes up with: Willie #1 was an honorably discharged WWII veteran who passed away at the age of 96. Nothing on Willie #2. Willie #3 passed at the age of 31 in 2008 (no information anywhere regarding the means of his passing) and, finally, we have Willie #4 who is a loser and who should stay in the Big House for his own protection since he, apparently, cannot function in a free, civil society.

Kudos to the armed citizen for their response…however, remedial range time is recommended. Additional kudos to the citizens who chased down an unarmed felon, captured and held him for the PoPo.

      • @LazrBeam

Please re-read the news reports regarding this event. IV tossed / lost his firearm at the restaurant (possibly when shot at). He was unarmed when the bystanders chased him down and captured him….as I stated in my original comment. The weapon was recovered on scene at the restaurant.

  8. Vigilantism is unacceptable.
The common citizen should not have weapons.
“We” are in progression of eliminating that.
The citizens of the former country called United States of America must accept this or be punished.
Submit, become a productive member of society, do not question authority, you will be rewarded .

    • That comment makes me want to kill commies more than ever before. And I suspect you are serious. Name and address please.

    • “Vigilantism is unacceptable.”

It’s called “Being proactive” The key is ‘Pro’, like how the word ‘Progressive’ is spelled. Progress. Moving forwards.

Get it? (I seriously doubt it! 😉 )

“The common citizen should not have weapons.”

Damn good thing scum like you won’t get that wish.

““We” are in progression of eliminating that.”

We shall see that the likes of you and your ilk will “Live in interesting times” if need be, little ‘chewy’… 😉

    • @Miner et al

      “What?” Indeed!

A quick survey indicates that only one news source reported the crime as an “attempted burglary”…the ABC affiliate in Atlanta…surprised? Their “reporters” (and editors) apparently do not know the difference between burglary and robbery. The other local and national sources appear to have the event correctly reported as an attempted armed robbery.

      • Burglary: The act of occupying a building, usually under the cover of night, to commit an unlawful act – like the last election. Robbery : The taking of something unlawfully by force – like the next one. Simple enough for all to understand ?

  9. Has TTAG become so politically correct that I can’t comment about the perp looking like he might be President Obama’s bastard son?

  10. If the robber could have held out for just another couple of weeks, he’d have a Federal Covid relief check deposited to his welfare account.

  11. All law abiding US citizens should always carry a gun, if they chose. The 2nd Amendment gives us that right but legislators don’t care enough about our safety to suppose that proposition. As long as they have their armed guards, the hell with everyone else.

  12. “Get it? (I seriously doubt it! 😉 )”

    I don’t think you did.

It’s called ridicule, or mockery (sarc, if you like).

  13. “Get it? (I seriously doubt it! 😉 )”

    I don’t think you did.

If I remember my college literature classes properly, it’s called ridicule, or mockery (sarc, if you like).

  14. “If the robber could have held out for just another couple of weeks, he’d have a Federal Covid relief check deposited to his welfare account.”

Not nearly the fun and adventure of doin’ crime.

  15. Very lousy shot. He needs to hit the shooting range. If the criminal had returned fire, this clown would probably have been the one running. Nothing worse than a criminal than a “good guy” who is as useless as a screen door in a submarine.
