A person entered a gun store and shooting range in a New Orleans suburb and fatally shot two people Saturday, prompting customers and staff to open fire on the shooter, a sheriff said. The shooter also died.
The shooting happened around 2:50 p.m. at the Jefferson Gun Outlet in the suburb of Metairie, according to a release from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said the shooter initially struck two people inside, and then several other people — whether employees or store customers — opened fire on the shooter, both inside and outside of the building. Outside the building a man could be seen afterward behind yellow police tape yelling “Where is my son?”
Guns and ammunition are sold in the front of the outlet that faces a main thoroughfare through Jefferson Parish. Customers who want to frequent the gun range generally go around to the side entrance of the building. Staff who work there often wear a sidearm.
Lopinto said two other people also were hit by gunfire and were hospitalized in stable condition. He said there were multiple shooters.
“We’re trying to put it all together,” the sheriff said during a short briefing with journalists.
None of the dead or wounded were immediately identified and details remained unclear.
Tyrone Russell and Wanetta Joseph were both in a conceal-and-carry course at the store when they heard what they both described as rapid firing. They said the gunfire sounded much louder than the usual muffled shooting that they are used to hearing inside the shooting range.
“We heard the gunshots and the screaming,” said Russell. “When the police came, they escorted us out. I could see glass everywhere … It was just like a really scary scene.”
“It got extremely loud, like a bomb almost,” said Joseph, who hid with other students under a table — not knowing if there were multiple shooters or if one was near the classroom. One instructor stayed with the students while two others left the room and headed toward the sound of gunfire.
Russell said that when he was led out, he could see a guy “laid out” in the parking lot not far from his car, which was struck by bullets. He described seeing shattered glass, bullet casings strewn about the store.
Caution tape surrounded the business to keep onlookers from getting close to the scene, where ambulances and numerous law enforcement vehicles had converged. A neighboring Taco Bell eatery had been evacuated.
Authorities remained at the scene as night fell.
Metairie is a major suburb of New Orleans, about 5 miles (8 kilometers) west of the city’s iconic French Quarter, in the neighboring jurisdiction of Jefferson Parish.

Local report said the perp got “upset” when an employee told the perp he would have to use another entrance for the range.
Sounds like a real thinned skinned pos who probably was a “delight” to be around. You do not need a Red Flag Law that can and will be abused by people just about as sick as the perp. Back rent will need to be paid, or evictions will happen. That they aren’t being allowed now doesn’t mean they won’t be allowed later.
“Make no payments for 12 months!” doesn’t mean you won’t need to make those payments later, and the interest continues to accrue.
There are plenty of people who will take the risk, just like there are plenty of people who are shocked when after that 12 months they get charged the interest about equal to the purchase.

A few weeks ago a deranged man tried to steal a pistol from a concealed carry classroom here in Las Vegas, then attacked one of the responding officers with a screwdriver before being shot dead in the parking lot at least 15 times.
Hope this isn’t a trend, but if MSM tries to make it into an anti-self defense issue I think the fact that such things CAN happen even in gun shops and even in Concealed Carry classrooms tends to defeat their narrative.

I have been to this establishment many times to purchase and practice. ALL of the workers open carry. You have to have a death wish to shoot at anybody in there. Great place with great employees! Prayers for all of them!
Thankfully some employees and customers were able to take care of business.To think that you can go into a local gun store and start to shoot is crazy in itself.Store employes in stores i frequent all have firearms at their sides.And customers all most all the time have firearms at their side when they frequent these stores also.
I must confess that going to a gun store/range is about the *least* prepared for a gunfight that I ever am. From years back, I’ve learned that etiquette requires guns cleared and locked open before entering a gun store. To engage this fool I would have had to insert a mag and rack the slide first. Too much of this manner of shit and that will have to change, manners or not.
All of the gun stores I go to, which is a lot, only require the gun to ‘remain holstered unless needed’.
The only time my weapon is unloaded and the slide locked back is when I clean it, and then there is a loaded operable gun lying where my hand will get to it faster than I could draw it from a holster. If etiquette a gun store requires that I unload and lock my weapon open I won’t frequent that store. The stores I frequent all have signs that tell you to leave your weapon in the holster unless needed, and then hit what you shoot at if you have to draw it. If I have a gun to trade I will unload it before entering the establishment, but my carry gun stays loaded and ready.
This is a sad thing. 1st this is something that should not happen to those not looking for it.
2nd this is the kind of thing the Democratic anti gun turds suck in like air to use as ammunition against the 2nd Amendment when in fact should praise as ordinary people stand up willing to face danger and lay down their lives to stop an idiot when law enforcement was not there and able to confront it. Police can’t be everywhere at the same time. This is case and point that ordinary citizens are able to protect themselves and others. They are the heroes of the day. I read in another post the shooter was ask to unload his firearm. He then allegedly became upset and started firing. Then it said other customers and employees returned fire. Why was he ask to unload, and other customers were loaded?? Still a lot of questions to be answered.

He was asked to remove an extended clip from his weapon when he c hose to fire one off in the ceiling.
I not sure what his rational behind this was but I was say stupid mistake knowing that all employees are carrying locked and loaded.
I went to Jefferson Gun range once to attempt to price on a new gun. the sales person basically told me that the price take it or leave it even though 12 miles away I can buy the same weapon 45 dollars cheaper. He had a real attitude about him. Last time I set foot in the place.
Found better deals at a mom and pop in Destrehan and Interstate Guns in Hammond, LA or Jim’s in Baton Rouge. With way friendly services.
As far as ranges inside Precision in Baton Rouge and FRC are nice. Out side Nick’s in Garyville if you can stand the mosquitos.
ND in a gun store means you had better be able to put your hands on top your head faster than ANYONE can draw… NO other options.
