This seems ripe for a court challenge . . . Desperate To Stop Gun Violence, Westport Pushes For Private Sidewalks
A Missouri law that took effect in January allows people to carry guns without a permit in nearly every public space, so there’s not much business owners or police can do to keep guns out.
A coalition of Westport business owners are behind a proposal to privatize the sidewalks in entertainment district. That would allow them to ban guns in the district and screen for them on busy weekend nights.
The proposal has drawn criticism from members of the city council and from several community organizations, who fear screening for guns could put other civil liberties at risk.
Can you fix something that’s fatally flawed? . . . What Fixing NICS Really Entails – and What it Does Not Portend
With U.S. House passage of H.R. 38 this week, as amended to include the Fix NICS Act, we are moving toward the one reform that will do the most to help keep firearms out of the hands of those who should not have them. And, despite what some have falsely claimed, it will do so while not interfering with the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.
The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) was established 17 years ago with Congressional passage of the Brady Act. Today, it is generally not known that the instant criminal background check system itself was the recommendation of the firearms industry, long before there was a Brady Act. The operating principle then and now is to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens — and the lawful commerce in firearms — while denying access to firearms by those prohibited by current law from purchasing or possessing guns.
This seems far too reasonable for Maryland . . . Harford sheriff, legislators want measure to let people carry guns in church
Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler has asked state lawmakers to let handgun owners bring their weapons to worship, saying he wants congregations to be able to defend themselves against a mass shooting like the one that happened last month in Texas.
Gahler backs a proposal that would let parishioners who have the written permission of church officials to wear and carry a handgun on church property. The parishioner would need a state handgun license, but not a concealed-carry permit.
Don’t you just hate when that happens? . . . Target Shooting Hooks High School Sportsman
My name is Austin Wimberly and I am a 14-year-old who loves everything about the sport of target shooting. From the weekly practices at Clemson 4-H club to the all-day tournaments, my passion for the sport grows deeper and deeper the more I shoot. Currently, I attend Woodmont High School, and love being involved in school activities, as well as youth activities with my church, Temple Baptist. I enjoy being in the woods hunting dove, deer, turkey and duck.
In February, 2015, my dad took me to my first church outreach skeet shoot. While there, I met Mr. Gary Blackwell with all his cool skeet throwing machines. As I watched this new sport, I was amazed at how the men were able to shoot the small sporting clays out of the sky so quickly. He encouraged me to give it a try, and from that point on, I was hooked.
From Clint Eastwood comes “The 15:17 to Paris,” which tells the real-life story of three men whose brave act turned them into heroes during a highspeed railway ride.
In the early evening of August 21, 2015, the world watched in stunned silence as the media reported a thwarted terrorist attack on Thalys train #9364 bound for Paris—an attempt prevented by three courageous young Americans traveling through Europe. The film follows the course of the friends’ lives, from the struggles of childhood through finding their footing in life, to the series of unlikely events leading up to the attack. Throughout the harrowing ordeal, their friendship never wavers, making it their greatest weapon and allowing them to save the lives of the more than 500 passengers on board.
That’s a shame . . . Fired Florida professor who called Sandy Hook massacre a hoax fails to win his job back
A former Florida Atlantic University professor who claimed he was fired in retaliation for blogging that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax lost his bid to get his job back.
Jurors in the federal free speech lawsuit filed by James Tracy took just three hours to reject his claim that the university terminated him for his conspiracy theory blog.
The university said he lost his tenured position because he repeatedly refused to obey reasonable requests from his bosses.
Tracy, who also harassed the parents of a 6-year-old who was killed in the Sandy Hook shootings, alleged the university was illegally punishing him for his free speech. Thursday is the fifth anniversary of the Newtown, Conn., massacre.
Your feel-good story of the day . . . Another Day Another Victory: NJ Pays our Legal Fees for Taser Victory
Another day, another victory, and this check for $39,500 from New Jersey should be a reminder to every anti-Second Amendment politician in New Jersey that all we do is WIN, WIN, WIN. Not only were we successful with overturning the unconstitutional ban on tasers and stun guns, our incredible legal team fought hard for constitutional purchase & carry and won!
Unfortunately, even though this award was for violating our civil rights – the taxpayers of New Jersey, not the actual offenders, are footing the bill. Maybe the state legislature should write a law that the people violating our rights, not taxpayers, should be picking up the bill? I have a feeling life for gun owners in New Jersey would change dramatically if that were the case.
BEST GUNS TO FIND UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE
Given that more people die annually from getting beaten to death vs getting shot with ANY along gun, and given that these guns and the AR-15 in particular are in (very)common use, they have little justification for banning them, both ethically and on a SCOTUS basis. Also, we know from research that a significant number of mass shooters are inspired by previous shooters, and the media sensation gives those fuckers a platform. Most antis(at least the smart ones) concede that no restriction will prevent 100% of attacks(they never state what is an acceptable level they have in mind), so the only argument we need to make concerning AR-15s is: If you are appalled by these shootings, stop naming the killers and giving them the attention they seek. Research proves this a motivation, and this is a way for you to “do something” that actually has a chance in hell of working, unlike gun control which has long proven futile. Also if you have heard of “Don’t Name Them” before and continue to name them, you become complicit in these shootings. If you(the antis) don’t accept this research, you are anti-science.
The ’15:17 to Paris’ trailer looks *good*.
Eastwood did well to cast the actual guys for their roles in this movie. They are either natural actors, or Eastwood got them well-prepped for this movie…
Another useful idiot. Predictable dumbocrat leftard…
Atheist so guns get my whole heart 😀
What exactly does Blumenthal propose that would work? Bueller, Bueller, Anyone? And I do mean what *exactly*.
Make a proposal, tell me exactly what you want to do and then make a compelling case for how it would work – you gotta make the sale. Phrases like, ‘keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people’, ‘limit access to assault weapons’, ‘eliminate the gunshow loophole’, and the like are not serious proposals, BTW. What do you propose to do that will make it harder for a crazed individual to shoot up an elementary school and how would this be implemented and how much will it cost and who will it affect – go ahead, tell me.
Oh, I see, you don’t have a meaningful proposal and can’t establish any justification – You just want to virtue signal. In that case, shut up, I don’t have the time.
You nailed it, Brother!
Is it just me or do the sheriffs and deputies in Maryland look really goofy in their little hats?
I found his website and watched his videos a little earlier this morning. Ingenious device. Uses just the charge in the shotgun shell. However, he might incur some repercussions from local authorities, eventually.
https://www.theblankbox.com/shop
Rig it with dye packs like at the bank, and possibly with some noxious odor as others have described above. Rigging up a low grade I.E.D., however, is probably unwise.
We do too recycle in Virginia!
I think that we should all be more respectful to Richard Blumenthal, by his own accounts a great American hero of the war in Vietnam.
Ohio used to be that guns were allowed in places of worship only with the pastor’s/priest’s/rabbi’s/imam’s/whatever’s permission. I believe it has been changed so that now places of worship are not prohibited unless such a leader explicitly prohibits it.
I think the second option is a lot better, but I guess any step forward is an improvement for the good people of Maryland.
While I like TouchID on my iPhone it isn’t nearly reliable enough for me to want it or some other biometric lock on my gun safe.
I’m all for moving property out of the hands of the government back to citizens. Out west there is a LOT of public land. I’ll give them sidewalks in Westport if we can set some more momentum for this concept across the board.
Yes I hunt.
1: tradition in my family
2. Population control
3. Fun and practicing all at the same time
I only hunt private land so if I didn’t have the opportunity I probably wouldn’t hunt public land. Too many idiots. And game wardens
Yes. As often as possible. I hunt public land here in CA. It can be productive, you just have to work a little harder.
As a kid my dad would hand me a single shot smoothbore and a hand full of shells and point to the fields and woods around the house and tell me he wanted rabbit/squirrel/grouse, etc. for dinner. There’s a photo of me with a shotgun where the gun is taller than me.
I live in the heart of the bay area. I have to get up at 3-4 am and drive for at least an hour and a half to be on the grounds. I do it gladly. It gets me out of ‘civilization’ and where a man belongs.
Following Baltimore’s Major “they need a place to destroy” philosophy, you have to “respect their right to steal your property” without fear of personal injury. That’s why I don’t live in Maryland.
I’ve gone hunting about 25-30 times, but I have reverse buck fever. I always think of a reason not to take the shot and I don’t even try much to get the shot in the first place. I am building a new rifle for my new digs above Dubois WY. I intend to actually take a game creature of some sort, but once again, not until I have spent at least a year tweaking the rifle and perhaps even longer working up loads way past what is necessary. It is compulsive behavior I suppose. I do realize that I could just buy perfectly adequate ammunition for a small fraction of what I spend making my own.
I will never believe the official story about Sandy Hook. There were too many situations that happened during and after the “incident” that no one will address. Every crime has a motive regardless of what the elitist want you to think. There was no motive for a kid with aspergers that had no connection to the school, murder his mother, steal her weapons, break into a school and murder 26 people. However, at the time of the “incident” there was a government in power that had motivation to ban, restrict, or out right confiscate your firearms. Such a mass murder could be used to brainwash many Americans to willingly forfeit their second amendment rights.
Then at a Super Bowl, kids having a scarily similar appearence to the ones murdered are standing on the field. The families of the kids murdered have collected tens of millions in donations. Robbie Parker, the father caught laughing on camera before his emotional plea and announcement of his charity in the name of his less than 24 hour murdered daughter.
Some will claim how could all those people stay quiet if there was a conspiracy? Easy. Money. Money in America means everything and I totally believe money with a healthy dose of fear will keep them all quiet.
I refuse to answer this clearly trick question.
Seeing so many agnostics and atheists on this site it sure seems funny how gun owners are always portrayed as bible thumping god fearing church goers.
I cling on to listening to the newscast talk about getting boundless online grant
applications so I have been looking around for the most excellent site to get
one. Could you advise me please, where could i get some?
I hunt off and on. Mainly I just like checking out the critters. Big money clubs are buying up most of the land. When I was a kid we didn’t have that, back then I hunted and trapped miles of swamp, timber, the river too Saw other traps once in awhile, boot prints here n there. Damn I miss those times and my dog’s. Now it’s all private big money clubs.. Used to fish the gravel bar,but the owner wants 350 two day stay. I fish the bayou now. Everybody cashes in on a good thing, us poor river rats ain’t got that kinda money.
