Pay No Attention to Media Spin About the Popularity of an Assault Weapons Ban and Confiscation

AR-15 assault rifle weapon

Bigstock

The quote of the day is presented by Guns.com.

What you’re reading is mostly agitprop, advocacy and push-polls.

The arguments for a ban on “assault weapons”— a purposefully elastic phrase that allows the liberal legislator’s imagination to run wild — is centered on aesthetics, on the false claim that the AR is a “weapon of war,” and on the firearm tastes of a handful of deranged, sociopathic murderers.

Democrats and their allies like to mock these sorts of arguments as nothing more than semantics; mostly because they need to conflate and euphemize terms to make their arguments work. It’s how they generate favorable polling. I’m sure you’ve heard about the popularity of gun-control measures. But like “Medicare for all,” and other vaguely positive sounding policies, once voters learn what specifics entail, those numbers tend to settle along the usual partisan lines.

If you think you’re going to have overwhelming support for “mandatory gun buybacks” when people learn that you’re really talking about “the confiscation of 20 million guns,” you’re fooling yourself.

You have got that backwards. The Greed Monger Businessmen (Founding Father Swap Rats) fked the American people out of a Democracy, a Parliamentary Government, and enslaved them to rich and the powerful by establishing the most corrupt country on the planet that was founded for the greedy rich and by the greedy rich and in the beginning even denied everyone the right to vote. Now our votes count for nothing anyway so why did they even bother to give us the illusion of voting?

It is precisely because Hong Kong students were given a Liberal American Style uncensored education that they are now able to “think for themselves” and able to have the willingness and desire to challenge authority and reject any conservative dogmatic propaganda. Without Liberalism there would be no Hong Kong Protests. We American Liberals also rioted at Kent State in 1970 against the Conservative Nazi’s who were supporting the U.S. Government’s subjugation and mass murder of the people of Vietnam. Wrong again. Its not 75 per cent. Its closer to 53 per cent. And the rich are taxed heavily in France while in the corrupt U.S. the rich pay no taxes. You also conveniently ignore all the social benefits that are paid right back into the pockets of the French. They do not go bankrupt over drug and health care while we do so who has the better country. They also get subsidies on rent if low income and exemption from income taxes . So who has the better country to live in? Answer. They do.

While the French are renowned for their burdensome taxes, it turns out that a record low number of people will actually pay income tax this year. Here’s why.
A report revealed on Tuesday that almost nine million French people will see their taxes decrease this year, meaning many workers will sink below the lowest income tax threshold.

That means that in total, only around 16 million French people will be paying income tax this year.

Although while they won’t have to pay income taxes, they haven’t gotten away scot-free, of course, as the French government already deducts a healthy amount of social charges directly from workers’ pay packets.

This figure – which represents 46 percent of the country’s total workers – is enough to be a record low, down from 46.5 percent in 2015, 47.5 in 2014, and 52.3 percent the year before.

The Socialist government has made several cuts to taxes in recent years to benefit the country’s worst-off workers in the hope that it will boost their popularity among the left.

The cuts include the removal of the lowest tax band at 5.5 percent, which is the reason why many low earners in in France don’t pay income taxes.

The 2016 budget also included a reform that meant another 1.1 million households would not be paying income tax.

On Thursday, Finance Minister Michel Sapin chose to remind voters that out of 17 million tax-paying households in France, eight million will have seen their income taxes reduced, some to the point where they don’t have to pay.

As a result of the cuts income tax in France now only generates €70 billion for the government, much of which is being stumped up by the country’s wealthiest workers.

Around 10 percent of tax payers cough up around 70 percent of the tax receipts, while the country’s richest one percent account for 45 percent of income for the taxman.

          Sorry Jethro try again.

Sad one who likens himself to a historical figure that enjoyed sticking things up people’s rear ends, You Lie. Simply put – you lie. The national government of France has about twice as many “tax means” as the US. Even the poorest immigrant on government aid pays out almost a third of the funds they are given in various retail taxes. (note that cigarettes /now including gross photos of diseased organs on the package/ are taxes by stamp and retail add on by federal authorities, taxed by federally mandated “local” seller’s tax and by local retail tax – and cigarettes are very popular with the French poor). Milk costs over $10 a gallon – 70% of that is tax, beef is over $40 a pound – and almost 90% of that is tax. The French people pay the extreme majority of their income in taxes – reasonably estimated to be over 95% for the rich and no less than 53% for the indigent!

U.S. Greed Monger Criminal Businessmen were well aware that the French for 85 years raped the economy of Vietnam by raping the rice profits ( 1/3 of the worlds total) as well as raping the profit of the natural rubber industry (2/3 of the worlds output). Our invasion in Vietnam was for the same reasons all aggressor nations start wars of rape, pillage and conquest and that was for blind greed and power over another nation.

And you speak of the Vietnamese/Cambodian War. The Vietnamese were the international hero’s of that war as they stepped in to stop the genocidal murder of the Cambodian people by Paul Pot who was a nut case if there ever was one while the U.S. sat by and did nothing because their was no profit to rape in Cambodia.

When America was a more agricultural (small town) centered society generations ago, the Christian church was expected to be the source of help for the community. That, and family.

Both Federal and State government has successfully completed their plan to supplant this system and become the “God” for society. They take usurious taxes and provide services (such as welfare) and have become the “womb to tomb” supporter for a large portion of community.

It’s pretty simple really. In the liberal weltanschauung, the collective is everything, the “common good” reigns supreme, and the individual serves the needs of the state. Thus, all property is collective property. You never owned it, you just thought you did. As far as the gun-grabbing liberals are concerned, you should be grateful they’re offering you anything at all.

    5. avatar Stephanie Wallace says:

All guns kill, we are a deadly species, don’t pretend we’re not.

      2. avatar Someone says:

        Dear Stephanie,

        1. Who the hell you think you are to tell me what I do or don’t need?!

        2. The Constitution includes Bill of Rights, not Bill of needs.

        3. Semi automatic rifles like AR15 are great for self defense. They are also used widely for hunting, though they are relatively underpowered.

        4. Even if they were not, it doesn’t matter. We, the People have the right to keep and bear arms useful for service in militia. This right is protected against any infringement by the highest law of the land – the US Constitution. No buts, excepts or howevers.

        5. Don’t let gun grabber’s lies blind you. Over 99 percent of murders in America is commited with different weapons than rifles. AR 15 style rifles are only fraction of the remaining 1 percent. Recent semi auto rifles gun grab is not motivated by efforts to save lives, but to take power away from the population. If you really care about saving lives, your time and effort will be better spent elsewhere.

  5. avatar Biatec says:

I don’t think we will ever get a real “assault weapons” ban again. Not anytime soon at least. We need to watch out for bills expanding what qualifies as a prohibited person and red flag type of laws.

Not to forget 80% receivers and private sales or lending your friend a gun are things I could realistically being infringed in our current political climate. Be ever watchful of people who say they are on our side and I think we can minimize it.

Punish everyone for something an individual did. It’s how they teach kids to think in public school. Someone attacked you? Well you are just as bad for fighting back if not worse than the bully. Collectivist nanny state thinking.

    1. avatar I Haz A Question says:

Agreed. When the previous AWGB went into effect in 1994, America was different. Since it expired in 2004, half of the nation has tilted toward strengthening gun rights, and (so far) 15 have successfully passed permitless carry.

A federal AWGB would meet with severe resistance from multiple states, and some would outright ignore it and refuse to enforce it.

  6. avatar Gary Willis says:

It’s not for us it’s for Republicans to worry them to the point where they betray us and go along. The best example was when President Bush issued a import ban of what was loosely defined as Assault Weapons. The latest is Lt. Governor Dan Patrick vowing to stand up to the NRA and end Private sales between strangers in the state of Texas. So it works, unfortunately.

Anyone who would dare to ask that question is shouting that he is not a decent person or an American because decent people do not have to have my post explained to them, as they can see what has happened to them under the corrupt regime of the Gangster Criminal Republicans. The Republican Criminals have already reduced their health care benefits because they are prostitutes of the Insurance and Drug Companies. 20 million people have now lost their health care with the weakening of Obama Care. And they are going bankrupt every day because the Republicans refuse to regulate the crooks in the Drug Industry and Insurance industry. And their children are being gunned down at school weekly during every school year. The Criminal Republicans have refused to enact gun control laws and refused to spend any money on school safety programs to protect children from assault by nut cases.

So how do you think this government would fare against hundreds of idividual WELL trained equally armed, highly mobil and extremely motivated militia groups that have been forming, meeting and training since the 70’s not to mention the groups of survivalist/preppers that your kind like to make so much fun of.. Your assumption that all gun owners are “far right” is laughable. Bottom line is very simple, crimminals do not obey the law. Period, full stop. When the once law abiding gun owners are made into crimminals, the only thing that will stand in the way of the destruction of the demonrat, liberal, snowflake ideology will be OUR morals, not your opinions or feelings. We defend your birth right to sound like a jackass, but if you think for one second that once we are made crimminals we will continue to “play nice”, you are every bit as delusional as you sound. Im also curious as to whether or not YOU plan on being the first one through the door on these confiscations, because a “buyback” will NEVER work! A simple search of compliance rates across the globe is ample evidence of this. Quite honestly, you could lose without a shot being fired. We are the people that fix your cars, grow your food, transport the goods you need, and will EASILY maintain control of the spaces between your urban liberal slums that will gradually and inevitably implode upon itself. I would wager that one Winter would be all it would take to cut your “forces” in half. The other half would kill each other or starve. One last thing, we are a democratically elecected constitutional republic, just for the record.

Your response is the typical Right Wing Fantasy. Sorry to bring you down to reality but your friends and neighbors 67 per cent of which do not own any guns would turn you in faster than a cat can scratch his ass. Your a rapidly disappearing minority. And I would not have to be the first one through the door. I could just sit back and watch the fun on TV or my computer as the Fed’s make short work of the few die hard’s that held out. The rest would go in the survival mode and throw their weapons out onto the streets for the jackbooted men in dark sunglasses which would be supervising the front end loaders scooping up all the banned weapons to be melted down ala Australian style super melt downs.

quote——————One last thing, we are a democratically elecected constitutional republic, just for the record————————-quote

Another one of your fantasies. The U.S. has never had a shred of democracy. The Government is controlled by the Rich and the Powerful and was founded by them and for them. They control you and determine who you will vote for by the nefarious methods of gerrymandering and the criminal Electoral College none of which has a shred of democracy in it and never has.

        1. avatar CanoeIt says:

While a valid point regarding neighbors, you obviously have no idea where I live. All but one of my neighbors actually own more guns than I do. Of course, now that they are waking up they are well on their way to out pace me since my money is going to relocation out of a liberal s*i*hole state. You make the assumption that I fantasize about it, I certainly do not. I’m well aware of what confiscation would lead to, you however do not. Since you acknowledged that you will have no skin in the game and will watch from your computer(not sure how when the grid goes down…lol) your opinion is moot. And your delusion has completely consumed you. I am well aware of three things 1) confiscation WILL lead to another domestic war (nothing civil about it), 2) there will be massive bloodshed on both sides 3) I will not survive it. Certainly nothing to fantasize about, so it probably high time you stop. Regardless of what you believe regarding what the US government is/was/will be, or any other in the world for that matter, your logic is flawed by lies you believe to be true. In some form, I’m sure mine is as well. Hopefully, the war will be brief with minimal losses. As long as libturds continue to drive wedges, it will be inevitable. Never underestimate a person with nothing to lose. Im off to my range now, so while you you watch your computer thinking you won’t be affected, I will be ready to stand my ground until I can’t. Good luck!

        2. avatar Vlad Tepes says:

Probably 78 per cent of the American people will cheer and clap while the government slaughters hundreds of thousands or even millions of other Americans who disagree with me. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/the-myth-of-the-mass-shooting-epidemic

The cited article is worth reading as well.

Look folks, this whole Democrat meme about the “epidemic of mass shootings” is pure bovine scatology. Surely, these events are hateful, hurtful and heinous acts, but no Government “buyback” {confiscation masqueraded as a ‘reasonable solution”}, nor any outright ban on any firearm(s) of any sort is going to stop broken, sick people from acting-out violently because our Society is f*cked-up in many ways that affect a tiny percentage of persons who cannot handle it. The vast, vast majority of us deal with the dysfunctions, disappointments and frustrations contemporary Society throws at us without ever having to act-out violently. We are the “sane” ones. No amount Leftist, Democrat propaganda is going to change that.

…and THAT is why we see through, “gun control laws” as the “way” to stop gun-involved violence, “universal background checks”, “Red Flag Laws” and the host of other Democrat-advocated controls and infringements that are antithetical to the founding concepts of the American Constitutional Republic, personal Liberty and self-determination.

The Founding Father Swamp Rats if they were alive today would be the very first to ban assault rifles because when they were alive they wanted complete control over the people that is why they refused them the right to vote and that is why they deliberately wrote 2A in as vague a terms as possible so it could be interpreted in 10,000 different ways to keep the people who were in power in power permanently. Down through history this disingenuous 2 A Amendment has been trashed consistently by the courts so they can retain complete power over the people.

I might add even if you interpret the 2A to mean the individual right to own arms it was never meant to be an absolute freedom that enabled terrorists, nut cases and the Far Right Paramilitary Lunatic Fringe from terrorizing and murdering the general public. No freedom is unlimited and 2A is a good example of that otherwise you could own atomic bombs and poison gas.

      1. avatar Vlad Tepes says:

      3. avatar CanoeIt says:

Wow, you really believe that tripe don’t you? The Bill of Rights does NOT grant anything, its intent was to protect those Rights we are ALL born with from those that would infringe on them, mostly government. Therefore, completely abolishing the 2nd Amendment, or any other Right for that matter, does not remove the Right, only its legal prtections. As hard as it is for you to believe, the people you demonize are the ones that protect you from the ones that actually want do you harm. Nothing proposed will do ANYTHING to stop criminals, because they do not care about the law. Obviously your fear of being a victim is self fulfilling, as you are already a victim of that fear.

  9. avatar Kyle in Upstate NY says:

Confiscation is just the Democratic candidates playing to their base right now. I am not concerned about that at the federal level (individual states it’s a different matter). Assault weapons bans, “high capacity magazine bans,” UBCs, Red Flag orders, etc…those are what to look out for.

    1. avatar Biatec says:

      Yep I agree completely.

    2. avatar Ed Schrade says:

That’s the deep states’ ” death by a thousand cuts ” strategy to nullify self protection and the second amendment. In England, a man defended himself from a criminal that broke into his home to rob him. He shot the criminal but did not kill him. The government paid for the criminals’ medical recovery and paid for the prosecution of the victim and sent him to jail. I think this is the strategy here. They know that confiscation will not work but they will prosecute anyone with a firearm when used in self defense to be a deterrent to use or ownership of a firearm.

    3. avatar Huntmaster says:

Gee, why don’t we just confiscate all the guns in Afghanistan and Syria. We could save enough money to save the planet from global warming.

  10. avatar Jon M says:

Not worried at all. I know that they cannot ban the AR-15 nor can they confiscate them. The 2nd Amendment prevents that. The 1994 ban didn’t completely ban the AR-15. They can ban imports as they did in 1994 and they can probably ban things like an AR pistol by tossing that under the NFA. But they will never be able to truly ban the AR-15 and they will never be able to confiscate them.

    1. avatar Mark says:

I hope your lack of worry doesn’t make you politically apathetic. We still need to wage war on the progressive communist left and claim back all the gun freedoms we have lost over the past 50 years. And never say never. That is dangerous confidence. This war with the left is eternal.

      1. avatar I Haz A Question says:

Jon’s correct because there are now so many of them in existence, the “common use” argument applies. That’s exactly how Federal Judge Benitez stopped our CA magazine ban back in March. If something is safely used by a large portion of the population, it’s very difficult to legally argue a ban against it.

        Certainly not for existing ARs.

  11. avatar Cloudbuster says:

To “Pay No Attention to Media Spin” is to ignore the damage being done by your opposition’s attacks. Or, for that matter, to ignore the disconnect from reality of your own leadership, and how it is hurting your own side.

  19. avatar Salty Bear says:

“.. . the false claim that the AR is a ‘weapon of war’…”

All weapons are weapons of war. My AR-15 is a weapon of war, which is precisely why I have it. All responsible members of the militia should possess and be proficient with their own weapons of war…. But they do not, and so it’s no wonder we are not free.

  20. avatar Richard Steven Hack says:

As I’ve mentioned before, feel free to grab everyone’s guns.

Can’t wait for the resulting black market, and the availability of untraceable, full-auto weapons at reasonable prices on every street corner just like drugs. Might take a little while, but it would be inevitable.

Of course, they’ll miss 40-120 million of the 400 million firearms out there, so it might slow the black market down a bit, but it will happen. And those 40-120 million firearms then being illegal, buying one from anyone means no worries about a background check or any questions asked since both parties have become criminals.

So hurry up and start the confiscation!

  21. avatar [WR] says:

    @Dan Zimmerman
If the premise that its all smoke mirrors and bulls*** when the extremists sociaist left starts screaming about bans, confiscation etc., why is the good people in the state of Washington got bent over and screwed w/o even a kiss or lubrication when 594 and 1639 came up on the ballots? It’s exactly because the reasoable voters in the state were told to pay no attention to the media and paid a very dear price for it.

Add in that NRA, with all its posturing and bluster, didn’t even bother to help fight either initiative, and the few grass roots organizations that even attempted to stand up and get the truth out to voters were restricted by the corrupt courts run by leftist agendists who have contributed to the decline of public trust in state and municipal governments.

Remember, with every lie is a kernel of truth. Clickbait like this article doesn’t help.

    1. avatar Mark says:

The NRA did fight 1639 but they were outspent by 1000 to 1. And they have joined SAF in a lawsuit against 1639. What did you do to help? Stop relying on organizations and make a difference yourself. If you aren’t contacting your legislators or testifying against bills then you are also to blame.

  22. avatar Lowell says:

Okay, our guns are just like the government/military guns except the government/military guns have a waste-ammo switch. The second amendment specifies that it’s for the militia, which is an INFANTRY UNIT made up of irregulars, thus by definition their guns would have military purpose. So the 2A specifically protects the ability of the citizen to acquire “weapons of war” because it is from the citizenry that the militia is formed. And gun grabbers can go to hell if they don’t like it.

  23. avatar B.D. says:

I am just here to say we should collectively ignore Vlad.

You are being trolled hard. Vlad doesn’t have any beliefs, he is merely here to troll the shit out of all the fools on this website that continue to feed him. So stop it. Starve him to death.

Here is a link every decent American can use to send a message so easy with a few clicks and a prewritten letter(if needed) to all GOP Senators & Trump to stop this illegal gun control! This week the threat is real and the anti-gun house will likely pass several gun control bills and scream the sky is falling! They will call Trump and the Senate all kinds of names if they don’t pass their commie gun control!

Maybe Franciscans do make 30 + an hour maybe they do pay exorbitant taxes for their freebies ( not really so free) but why is it that when they get a little older and need major surgery they (if they can afford it) come to the U.S. could it be that once you reach a certain age you’re not worth it to the govt. In addition how many “regular” Franciscans have a 2000+ sq ft house a boat several ATV’s and an RV? Very few because it all goes to taxes for said freebies.

Does one declaw a bear? File the teeth flat of a gator? We are a species of monsters, angels, demons, and fools. New rules won’t change anything as nothing will stop us from killing each other as long as we believe in fairytale forgiveness and mystical virgins beyond the grave! Relief from belief is required for us to ever find peace. The guns are but a tool triggered by hate or ignorance or duty. Don’t try to declaw this beast, I have a family to defend against a world gone mad.

“Assault weapons”, meaning individual arms well-suited to personal use for personal defense.

They’re not militargly weapons prdcisely because you can use them without an army.

I believe we should go back to using the correct term self-loading instead on semi-auto. JMO

I can’t believe all the paranoid comments about banning assault rifles. We had this ban before in 1994 and not one comment anyone made here became true about our government threatening civilians like in 1776. These weapons were designed as Military weapons of mass destruction for killing many, not for self defense. I only trust our military and their advanced training for anyone to own one, not crazy paranoid people.

    1. avatar Someone says:

Your grandfather’s bolt action deer rifle was designed as military weapon. Not of mass destruction though. WMDs are chemical, biological and nuclear. Rifles and even machine guns, artillery and explosives are not WMD. You lose any credibility using hyperbole like that.

We have constitutionally protected right to own and carry arms in order to be able to stand up to the army you trust so much in case the government goes tyrannical and uses it against its own people.

    2. avatar Someone says:

Oh, one more thing, Cindy. Try to listen to any of Democrat presidential hopefuls. Each and every one of them promises gun grabs, bans and mandatory “buybacks”. They do want to take our rifles, just like the English at Lexington. Is it paranoia if they are really after you?
