Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) doubled down on her defense of relaxed gun control laws, claiming “strict gun laws actually create murder.”

Greene opened her remarks by pointing to multiple shootings in Chicago on Memorial Day weekend that left 11 people dead and over 50 injured from gunshot wounds. She claimed Democrats failed to talk about or report those particular shootings.

“To carry a gun in Chicago you need a firearm owner ID and a concealed carry license, which are difficult to get,” Greene said. “Most gun thefts occur in Southern states — Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina.”

Greene was joined by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and other members of Congress in leading a hearing at the Okaloosa County administrative complex in Florida on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’s “weaponization and heightened targeting of Federal Firearms Licenses.”

The ATF is being weaponized “as a result of President Joe Biden’s Zero Tolerance Policy,” according to a press release from Gaetz. …

Both Greene and Gaetz have drafted legislation in the past aimed at abolishing the ATF over accused violations of the Second Amendment, and Gaetz introduced the “Abolish the ATF Act” in the House in January.

      At least she does agree that the lax gun laws, including lack of safe storage laws, leads to the red states being the major suppliers of weapons to violent criminals in the United States.

      Her statement would also lead one to conclude those red states have a higher majority of criminals on the streets stealing guns.

          Obviously the southern states are the major supplier of stolen guns to the criminal element.

          She also spoke of the stricter gun laws in Chicago and democrat cities so it’s easy to see she believes the southern states social systems are conducive to supplying more stolen guns to violent criminals.

          Which is exactly the plan of the conservative leaders in the red states, in order to justify even more draconian repression against the citizens of their particular state.

          And as MTG has pointed out, any citizen who questions the authority of the political leaders is subject to attack by the Jewish space lasers.

          This whole conspiracy theory grift is great, next step, Italian satellites printing votes on bamboo paper.

        firearm thefts are due to crime. those states have their laws which also make it a crime to steal a firearm.

        and once again you display your ignorance…there is no state with a strict gun law where a ‘safe storage law’ prevents theft because ‘safe storage laws’ they prescribed are only to a level to keep the law abiding gun owner from getting to the gun quickly. ‘safe storage’ they prescribed in their laws is not the same as ‘secure storage’.

  7. Speaking of Chiraq a wondrous thing occured. A black women was being attacked by a black miscreant & she yelled for her 14 year old son to get her gat in her car and SHOOT the guy beating her. So the kid DID. Killed him. Both arrested but shortly after charges dropped. Mom had a FOID & was a legal gat owner. All caught on camera. I guess you CAN carry yer “legal”gat in yer motor vehicle🙄🙃

It is ironic that when Republicans know they do not have a chance in hell of getting any legislation passed through congress and/or signed by a current sitting president they have all these great bills they come up with that they know the reat of us actually want to see passed and implemented.   13. Gun-related deaths in metro Phoenix continued to see an uptick in 2022, according to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner annual report released this month.

    There were 863 deaths via gunshot wound last year, up 12% from last year (769 deaths) and 34% five years ago (644), according to the eighth annual report.

    Of those fatalities, 361 were homicides, the highest total in the state’s most populous county since tracking began in 1991.

    The firearm-caused homicide rate was 7.9 per 100,000 people, a 19% increase from the previous year and more than double the lowest rate (3.8 per 100,000 people) in the past decade, which happened in 2014.

    Suicides were the largest total of gun-related deaths in 2022. There were 487 deaths, far outpacing totals for other manners of suicide.

      In the 12 months ending in December 2021 to the 12 months ending in December 2022, there were ~105,400 drug overdose suicides (which was a ~2% decrease from the previous 12 month period). Its been around ~100,000 (sometimes +/- ~40,000 annually) for a long time.

      ~12 million people in the U.S. contemplate suicide annually, ~10 million contemplate using drugs or hanging even though they might be able to procure a gun some way or another.

      ~3 million annually actually plan their suicides, more than ~2.5 million plan to use drug overdose because its painless and they just fall asleep but also leaves a little bit of time when they might be found and saved.

      ~2 million people annually actually go through with attempting their suicides by uses of things other than guns even if a gun was available to them.

      ~400,000 suicide attempts (without firearms) annually are successful to cause death but attributed to other causes of death for the body function that ceased operating. This is because of the fine line distinction between attempt and intent – because it can’t be discerned that it was not an attempt without the intent to actually die which is a legal distinction in law in most areas as to the medical determination of suicide so they cant rule it suicide unless there was an intent to die by their own hand, and its common in suicide attempts for attention hoping they will be found and saved but they did not really have intent to die but rather did it for the hoped attention. If they can’t show that intent, the cause of death is listed as the body function that failed and not suicide. For example, the death might be categorized as due to heart failure instead of suicide because this distinction between attempt and intent can not be discerned. So these are in stats under other categories of death, for example, heart failure even though in the understanding of suicide as a category they were suicide deaths.

      Comparatively, gun deaths under suicide like conditions are always listed as ‘suicide’ because its automatically assumed the intent was there and the person actually pulled the trigger. These are reported as gun-suicide ‘immediately’ (or almost immediately) even though an investigation may not have been completed and they go into gun-suicide stats very quickly. However, about ~60% of those deaths ruled gun suicides are later to be found to have been without intent and rather accidents or staged-to-look-like-suicide-murders. Even though later found not to have actually been an intent gun-suicide they are never removed from gun-suicide stats and this falsely inflates the gun-suicide stats.
