Double Barrel Biden on Armed Self-Defense: Fire Your Shotgun Through Your Door

Joe “Double Barrel” Biden had a sit down with the editors of Field and Stream. Hot on the heels of his self-defense tip to Parents magazine readers—respond to a home invasion by stepping outside and firing two warning shots from a double barreled shotgun—the Obama administration’s front man on civilian disarmament offered more unconventional advice to armed Americans facing a deadly threat inside their home . . .

F&S: What about the other uses, for self-defense and target practice?

BIDEN: Well, the way in which we measure it is—I think most scholars would say—is that as long as you have a weapon sufficient to be able to provide your self-defense.

I did one of these town-hall meetings on the Internet and one guy said, “Well, what happens when the end days come? What happens when there’s the earthquake? I live in California, and I have to protect myself.”

I said, “Well, you know, my shotgun will do better for you than your AR-15, because you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.”

  1. What is constistutional about a law that exempts Hollywood but not the everyday law-abiding citizen. I am hoping they will have Cuomo explain that one.

  2. Are there any pictures available of this asshat actually handling a firearm?

Does he even know the 4 rules of firearm safety?

    • Even if he is a lawyer, he is not giving legal advise. His job is right now is to give false information so that the anti-gun crowd gets their way. Later he can deny everything and since it is not legal advice, what are you gonna due.

What is scary is anyone who takes his advice.

Really, I want Biden to run in 2016, it will be a chuckle a minute

  4. Umkay. Well let’s ask Trevor Snowden of Virginia Beach about that advice. Oh wait, we can’t because Trevor is in jail for shooting at armed criminals through the bedroom door of his home. (The Truth About Guns featured this story the other day here https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/02/daniel-zimmerman/va-man-arrested-for-following-double-barrel-bidens-armed-defense-advise/#more-205553.)

Someone remind me … whose side is Double Barrel Joe on again?

    • Hopefully not. Having received a summons is not the same as having been arrested.

I’ve twice been stopped for “running” a red on a motorcycle, having sat through a couple cycles without any green facing my way. Once I was ticketed – a summons, in other words.

When I informed the Judge that I felt myself to be under no obligation to recognize the light’s authority when it wouldn’t recognize my existence, he had to concur.

This’ll likely go about the same way, with everyone just going through the motions. Still, it’s stupid.

  6. Just an FYI, this is NOT the Dywinski and Lefkowitz v. State of New York case. Talking with the spokesman for the legal team this is yet another suit which i Believe is Holt v NY. Mr Holt is a FFL who sells AR-15’s primarily and has his business destroyed by this law. the Tresmond’s are attacking on multiple front’s. They have a Diverse legal team from many states assisting.

  8. Seriously?!?! Are we forgetting that THIS guy was all for an AWB just a month ago? And this guy even had an A rating from the NRA. He heard the public backlash and changed his tune. You can’t trust any politician… Especially a democrat. NEVER forget that people. We HAVE to stay on guard. They realize hey can’t accomplish this at the Federal level so they are trying to get it done state by state. Only look at New York, Conn., and Colorado to know this is true. Stay vigilant, and never forget what scum like him said in the past, despite the song they sing now!

    • “Nobody’s coming to take your guns” is now about as persuasive as “Nobody NEEEEEEEDS an assault weapon!”

Oh – Feinstein now refers to the Second Amendment as “your personal pleasure” which needs to be done away with “for the children”.

  11. Is he on crack? His advice is something out of a Daffy Duck cartoon. Whats next from smokin joe, be carefull going through a doorway so the burgler doesn’t tie the shotgun in a knot? He’s not that far from this. A person is not supposed to own a legal AR & use it safely, you are supposed to use a shotgun in a reckless & illegal manner though. I shouldn’t bitch, he’s gotta be helping our cause, Randy

Except it’s still virtually impossible to get a permit anyway, and even if you do, you can own a revolver but not a semi-automatic pistol. That’s how Constitutionally guaranteed rights die, one modern firearm at a time.

  15. Very nice demonstration, but unfortunately there will
be two completely different conclusions. Sane people
will conclude that magazine bans do squat.

The anti-rights groups will freak out and proclaim that
all firearms are now machine guns. Why, it only took
20 sec to fire 30 rds, that’s, like, a hundred rounds
a minute! You may as well have a minigun!

  16. The intro information is good…even great in support for having higher capacity mags because even trained police officers miss 75% of the time therefore a 30 round mag is needed for defense.

The video section can and will be used by the anti-gun crowd in many ways.

    1. 10 round magazines actually are faster….why are all of you gun freaks complaining about mag caps????

    2. See we told you and AR can spray out faster than a hand gun….BAN AR’s

The Pro-gun crowd really needs to settle on a few talking points like the information on at the beginning of the video and hammer those points home in a self defense/tyrannical government defense way.

The pro-gun movement should have really one point, CITIZENS MUST HAVE EQUAL TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THAT IS PROTECTED BY THE 2ND AMENDMENT IN OUR BILL OF RIGHTS. End of story.

All of this noise about the what left is calling this gun an assault weapon when its not or its a mag not a clip, or its a standard capacity mag not a high capacity mag, is a TOTAL WASTE of time and a distraction. In fact I bet the left loves it when pro-gun people lecture them on this because it keeps pro-gun people busy on this noise while they are doing real damage in the background to our rights. Also lecturing them has a negative feel to it.

  18. Anyone else notice that when shooting the 5 – 6 round magazines they shot 5 rounds from the first one and 7 from the last to prevent slide lock? Makes good tactical sense and cuts down the time.

I think Jim was sandbagging that first round.

  19. The interesting question is whether or not someone could buy the part from Amazon, then fill out Form 1 as a maker of a silencer. One way to play this would be to make a housing that encircles the oil can. This housing could then be engraved with the S/N. Silencerco does this with their sparrow. They have an outside sheath which bears the S/N. Inside is a second housing that holds the actual suppression materials. Should the baffles ever be damaged, Silencerco can affect the repair without impacting the serial numbered part.

So, assume you go through this, create a housing, file the form 1, presumably, this would let you replace the sound baffling material. Of course, the ATF could also say that since you don’t hold a SOT as a registered manufacturer, the Form 1 only allows you to create it in the first place, not to actively maintain it.

A Sparrow from Silencerco will run you less than $400 from Silencershop.com and figure paying another $25 to a local FFL to do the transfer. So, given the fact that you either have to fabricate the housing yourself or find someone to do it, you need to decide whether the money you save just buying a legal silencer is worth all of the hassle.

  20. Guns Save Life’s reply to select points:

If a ban passes, these guys would be the ones hurt, and the politicians wouldn’t care.

Well, it’s Magpul’s job to work alongside 100+ other companies to give them motivation to MAKE the politicians care. If the cops have no skin in the game, they are much less motivated to make their elected officials care. You can bet that if the cops were facing impending layoffs, they would make their elected political representatives feel the heat.

Are these the guys that we want to punish?

Again, we’re not punishing them. We’re motivating them.

they will simply be replaced with new faces that aren’t gun guys, don’t know any better, and may gladly stomp on your rights without a second thought if given the order.

That’s a stretch. America has a long history of dealing with those who stomp on rights. There’s the soap box, letter box, ballot box, jury box and the cartridge box for dealing with these sorts.

these guys face violent criminals, make 2 am traffic stops, serve felony warrants, raid meth labs, etc.

And we don’t face home invaders, sexual predators, robbers, looters, car jackers, and miscellaneous other thugs? Thanks, Magpul, for your classist logic that our lives are worth less than Bob the police officer’s.

Gun control is classist. And it sounds like you’re supporting it.

Here in America, we’ve fought lots of battles over the years for everyone to enjoy equal rights. Women, blacks, so on and so forth.

Now we’re fighting a battle so all Americans will be treated equally in their gun rights.

we won’t bend from our principles

And we won’t bend from ours. Civil rights aren’t negotiable.

Right now, we are engaged in the fight of our lives for 2A rights here in CO.

And we’re fighting alongside of you, not because of your company’s headquarters being located there, but because it’s the moral and ethical thing to do — supporting the fight for our civil rights, not for the rights of the cops to have a police state as you seem to be supporting.

And while we’re right there fighting in California, I haven’t seen one whit about Magpul helping us in Illinois. Instead, you people are putting in a fast lane for Chicago Police officers to get their PMAGs when the law-abiding good guys in Cook County are banned from owning such devices even though they face violent crime rates many times the rest of Illinois.

I haven’t seen any news of Magpul helping in New York State, or New Jersey, or Delaware, or Rhode Island, or California.

But we are right there in Colorado.

    Alongside you.

This may evolve, but for right now, that is where we are at, and while we are always open to listening to reason, no boycotts or flaming will change our minds from doing what we feel is the right thing to do

That’s fine. We’ve tried reason and logic. You folks at Magpul have stuck with classist arguments, citing police officers lives are more valuable than Suzy Civilian and her little girls.

For that, you’re no good to us anymore.

Shame on you, Magpul. Shame on you.

  21. This really does make a lot of sense. It’s relatively easy for Ronnie Barrett to enforce a ban on selling his relatively rare $8,000 rifles to certain states or cities. It’s much harder to govern the sales of $10 (in better times) disposable, plastic items.

Even if you think Magpul is wrong in this instance, taken as a whole they have certainly done more to advance 2A interests than to harm them. So we can regret that they won’t join the boycott efforts, but let’s dial the invective back a bit, ok?

And I don’t even like plastic mags – give me metal any day of the week. But I do like Magpul’s AR furniture and replacement parts for my USGI mags.

  22. The Problem With Boycotts;

I guess we have to boycott EVERY company that sells a full-auto to the US military or any US government agency? Where do we buy ANY gun then? Can’t buy a Colt, S&W, Sig or any AR platform rifle.

If guess we should destroy our existing guns from those manufacturers in protest.

I mean, either you believe in this protest or not, right?

This 2nd Amendment Puritanism will make it damend near impossible to buy any new weapon.

What about ammo? If they sell to those agencies, do I have to boycott them too?

Clothing? Boots? Gloves? Lights? Even if they don’t get special models they get special pricing, which makes it unfair to me.

They get special cars too, so no more Chargers, Caprices, Tahoes, Camaros, etc

If you are going to go this way, go all the way, right?

Yeah, I know I crossed some “technical” lines in my examples. So be it.

  24. The root of all evil is government (or banking cartel) created money and the institution of government itself. We should go back to 100% barter (that might include a currency approved by, created, and controlled by the people in the marketplace) and individual/small family group interactions with the rest of society. Practicable social norms and cultural values will eventually become informally established by the common people based on what works for society.

  26. If Magpul or Armalite selling to the individual police officer offends someone, can I get an answer to whether that boycott also extends to Fruit of the Loom and Krispy Kreme? Cops buy them, too.

Creating a issue about who does what to support gun rights only helps the haters. Don’t be one. It’s divisive, unproductive, and you look like your grasping at straws.

Take a long look at a vendor website selling to LEO’s and tell me you have never purchased any of their gear, and are willing to part with it – because it’s exactly the same thing. Surefire? Benchmade? Danner? Who’s make laptop is in your local PD cruisers? Take that thought to all the other gear cops use, pile it up in the backyard, and burn it all? Hey, cops live in houses, buy lumber, too. Burn the house down, you don’t want to support them.

At one time I thought LEO/MIL was a recommendation of higher quality and superior performance under harsh conditions. I guess having second tier gear is now the standard, just to make a political statement. And brow beating others to do the same? Isn’t that exactly what we are telling Feindstein and Co.? “You ain’t the Boss of me?”

Well, haters, you need to think about not stirring up a ban that helps the banners. It’s lame. You are wrong. It’s not the time and place. And, it’s not your business under attack, either.

  28. I think it would be nice to see rapid mag changes, maybe with one shot from each mag, to cut down on variation of shot to shot time in the different tests.

Also, and I hate to say this, but people are rushed from shorter distances, and the man did not appear to be sprinting, and just because the assailant gets a few rounds into the ambusher does not mean the ambusher is going to go down immediately. A shot to the spine or brain stem will stop him immediately, but typically someone rushing from that distance with a persistent mindset will be able to at least tackle the shooter, even if shot several times in the torso.
