  1. This story will disappear from the news cycle very shortly, as it doesn’t fit the liberal anti-gun agenda. I’m surprised it actually got the photo of the shooter.

    • Well it wasn’t a body armor free zone, so unlikely that if guns were allowed that there would have been anyone carrying a gun but the shooter.

  2. Another gun-free zone, no doubt. Let’s keep painting targets on everyone who dares be in such a place, then blame the guns some nut abuses as a direct result of what amounts to an open invitation to take out defenseless victims.

  3. So the orders were given to shelter in place. Great idea… concentrate all the p
otential victims on small enclosed areas, not one defensive weapon in the lot of them.

the problem is not how many GUNS there are “out there”. The PROBLEM is in WHOSE HANDS the guns are held. This time, as most often happens, the one gun was in the hands of the wrong guy.
Just think.. if ONE of the other students present in that first classroom had been armed, where perp went to do his killing, there would have been perhaps one student shot and then very quickly one PERP shot. End of massacre. Would not even qualify to make the list of “mass public shooting”.

    • MSU’s dorm room doors are solid enough that someone would have trouble getting in without breaching charges or taking a long time removing the knob from the door so shelter in place is a good thing™.

I’m guessing it was a murder-suicide of someone in the sociology department just from the revolver seen in the MSU police screengrab so the bad side of Lansing will try to rush through an AWB today.

    • Trinico makes excellent points.
The left worries about the good citizens carrying guns; but, they show no concern for all the disarmed good citizens be they college students the elderly etc
And at the same time the left politicians enjoy 24/7 armed security at the expense of we the people, so do hollywood elites. Politicians, hollywood elites and those who support them are simply people like the rest of us here on TTAG. They think they are better, smarter than we, but nothing is further from the truth.

    • Tionico,

the problem is not how many GUNS there are “out there”. The PROBLEM is in WHOSE HANDS the guns are held.

Friendly correction: the problem is VIOLENT PEOPLE, nothing more and nothing less.

Even if you could waive a magic wand and make all firearms disappear, VIOLENT PEOPLE will still be violent people and simply use alternate items and tactics to attack and harm their victims.

Super easy ways to seriously injure/murder several people require nothing more than inexpensive everyday items. I would list a few examples if that did not carry the risk of inspiring some dolt to attack innocent victims. I am confident that readers can think of easy alternate tactics and items.

  4. Well the perp is dead so blame every Gun Owning Citizen within a 2000 mile radius of the crime scene…Usual knee jerk Gun Control to the rescue.

  5. violently mentally ill person, campus is gun free zone.

over 120 million law abiding gun owners did not do this, but one violently mentally ill person did do this.

    gun free zones, defined:

“gun (gŭn) free (frē) zone (zōn)

    * Trap in which people congregate and are falsely promised safety by a make believe force field of a ‘No Guns” prohibition.

    * A place where people are disarmed and not permitted self-defense with firearms.

    * Hunting grounds for predator criminals where defenseless prey is guaranteed by law.

    * Place where existing laws against violent crimes do not work to prevent violent crimes the laws are touted to be able to prevent.

    * Places designed to attract violently mentally ill predators.

    * Places where police forces cease to operate to protect before the fact of a violent crime as they are touted to be able to do by politicians implying.”

    • guns had nothing to do with this, mental illness aided by a ‘gun free zone’ did this.

      In the Journal of Threat Assessment and Management, 7(3-4), 135–156. (Lankford, A., & Cowan, R. G. (2020)) ( https://psycnet.apa.org/doiLanding?doi=10.1037%2Ftam0000151 )

… Cowan writes of their research they “…closely analyzed public mass shooters who attacked in the United States from 1966 to 2019 and found that correlates of mental illness were approximately equally common among perpetrators, whether they had been coded as mentally ill or not.”

Forensic psychiatrists James L. Knoll IV, MD, and George D. Annas, MD, MPH, of SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse New York, both leading authorities on the mental health aspects of mass shooters, summed it up for the issue for the mental health community various studies on various aspects in terms of mass shooters…. Although mass shooters may not meet DSM-5 criteria for a recognized disorder, “they do have an ill-defined trouble of the mind for which the mental health field has no immediate, quick-acting ‘treatment,’” – in other words, mass shooters do have mental illness driving them but not something clearly defined and for which the mental health community basically has no treatment.

    • @.40 Cal Booger:
Thank you for all the excellent comments in support of the 2nd Amendment. My state legislature is going to consider constitutional/pertmitless carry again this year in April. Your comments have supplied me with ammunition that I will to use with every member of the House and Senate in the form of emails. Plus, I hope to travel to the state capital and testify before the Adm of Criminal Justice committee in favor of 2A. Regardless every legislature will receive emails from me and many of which will contain excerpts from your comments.
      Thank you.

    • Yep. And the victim profile usually breaks down to 1) those who tried to stop the shooter, and 2) the real targets.

    • Desperately hoping it is a dreaded legal private sale gun that they cannot track for political points on future infringement…………or a dreaded pre serial number requirement era ghost gun?

  6. “The incident began in Berkey Hall where people were shot in a couple of first floor classrooms. About an hour later, more were shot at an intramural building known as IM East.”

A mass shooter has, on average, minimum 3 minutes kill area dominance in each target zone without stress of being stopped by police, has 15 seconds or less kill area dominance time when an ordinary armed citizen present engages them by firearm.

But an hour? Now we know where the fired Uvalde response law enforcement went to work.

    • Some of that (by no means a firm statement) could be distance traveled between shootings if it was sufficient to evade detection/having a direction of where the shooter went after the first incident and they were responding to an initial shooting without a good description or direction of the suspect. I may be hopelessly optimistic here.

  7. Where’s dacian? The bodies are still warm so he should be dancing in their blood.

    What, too soon?

    • the mentally ill person is black, so no far right wing White Sepremist for him to rant falsely about

      • Isn’t the shooter displaying “the black face of white supremacy?”

Isn’t that why five black cops beat a black suspect to death in TN?

White supremacy — is there anything it can’t do?

  8. First thing is I offer my condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
Was this a random attack by some nut? Or did the shooter have some perceived grievance against the school or someone affiliated with it?
Shorter stature black male armed with what appears in the surveillance photo to be a revolver.
Instead of 15 minutes of fame, he will get 5. Doesn’t fit the narrative and didn’t use the scary assault weapon of mass destruction.
Wonder how this will be spun to claim some form of racism or white supremacy. Perhaps 1 of the victims used the dread “N” word at some point in their life.

    • If he did use a revolver, it just demonstrates that it does not matter what firearm a mass shooter uses if his victims are disarmed. He could have used a bolt action rifle with a capacity of five rounds and done the same damage.

Likewise, it would not take much to resist. A five shot j-frame would suffice in most instances. Two or more j-frames wielded by two or more people would be even better.

      • That’s as clear as a bell to anyone with common sense, but it doesn’t fit the desired narrative of the leftist politicians, activists, and media. They don’t want firearms to EVER be acknowledged as having any positive purpose. That means they have to seek out ways to completely ignore and deny the most basic reality.

  9. These nutjobs are not expecting any resistance. Those that are confronted with force either off themselves or move out of the area. They are cowards at heart. Notice these screwballs NEVER attack police stations.

When will people learn?? ALWAYS CARRY! ALWAYS!

    • Actually, the police station was attacked by the murderer in the Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales case (which sats the police have no duty to protect you). After murdering his kids, he parked his pickup with their bodies in the street in front of the police station and opened fire. He quickly died in the hail of return fire.

    • Johnny LeBlanc,

And, some screwball attacked cops in a Detroit Police Station roughly 15 years ago.

While rare, screwballs do occasionally attack police stations. At any rate, you make a great point that 99.99999% of these screwballs are cowards and attack easy targets.
