I am confused who is coming after whom … millions of peaceful, responsible gun owning citizens who never shot anyone, and hope they will never have to, or a govt that keeps looking for ways to eliminate these people’s guns, to no good end.

The “No guns for you!” crowd is just annoyed that even the NRA is finally on to their schtick. It used to be that the banners could come on with a P R push. Then, in exchange for some cosmetic adjustments, the N R A would “play ball” and the banners would get what they wanted in the first place, now able to say it has the N R A’s blessing. Then they’d propose the next incremental erosion. Wash, rinse, repeat.
So, here’s the thing. How about the people who say tbey want to do something about “gun deaths” try “playing ball” with a membership organization that has run the premiere gun safety program in the country for decades. It’s “reduce violence” by taking tools away from people who’ve done nothung. You wanna reduce accidental deaths, how about a safety program? It’s almost like reducing harm is a pretense, not the goal.
Maybe start by focusing on bad actors. Maybe demonstrate good faith by saying any one time that they recognize peaceful, responsible citizens’ natural, civil, and constitutionally codified right to personal arms. Maybe play ball a little, if that’s what you want the other guys to do.
While they are at it, maybe recognize their consituency’s preferences, as the N R A finally has. I realize it’s bothersome that the anti’s can’t fire the citizenry, but there you have it. Until they can pull that off, they’re gonna keep having their better ideas stymied by inconvenient proles who think differently.

Totally out of left field. Who could’ve guessed it?
The NRA plays hardball because in the past, when it compromised, it only led to more attempts at gun control legislation after a few years.
And, for at least the past decade, every concentrated move toward gun-control has resulted in an exponential expansion of NRA membership and influence. The first time I saw this happen I couldn’t register to join the NRA because the phone banks were so overloaded with people calling to join. The NRA promptly fixed that problem.
Please stop calling those nanny-state accoutrements to regular guns “smart.” They’re anything but.
Anything that impedes proper function of a complex mechanical device is not “smart,” it is a hindrance, and a dangerous one at that.
