In a long story, which just continues getting worse as you read the article at Yahoo News, then-14-year-old Ava Majury had eclipsed a million followers on the ultra-popular Chinese spy app TikTok after only about a year on the service. Unfortunately, one of her many followers, a now-morbidly-deceased 18-year-old, took his unhealthy interest in the online personality.

In early 2020, after Ava noticed [Eric Rohan] Justin angling for her attention on TikTok, she learned that friends in New Jersey and Florida were selling him photos of her as well as her personal information, including her cellphone number, which Justin used to call and text her. In another instance, Justin logged onto a classmate’s school account and did math homework in exchange for information about Ava, her family said.

Then things got more menacing.

In a series of text messages that made their way to Ava, and which the Majury family showed the Times, [Justin] asked one of Ava’s male classmates whether he had access to a “strap,” or gun, shared plans to assault her, and wrote, “i could just breach the door with a shotgun i think.” The classmate’s mother declined an interview request.

When Ava learned of the threatening messages, she called the classmate who had received them. He confirmed that he had gotten them and forwarded others to her. Fearful, she showed her parents. They researched Justin’s identity, saw that he lived hundreds of miles away, and reassured her that “he was one of these keyboard cowboys,” [Ava’s father Rob] Majury said.

“I sort of discredited what could have been a threat.”

But Justin showed up at the Majury family’s front door. With a shotgun. Which he used just as Uncle Joe Biden suggested . . .

Early on July 10, the fan — Eric Rohan Justin, 18, of Ellicott City, Maryland — arrived with a shotgun at the Majury family home in Naples and blew open the front door. His weapon jammed. Ava’s father, Rob Majury, a retired police lieutenant, chased him off but fell.

Majury told Collier County sheriff’s officers that he returned to the house, retrieved his handgun and stood guard at the front door, only to see the gunman return a short time later. By sunrise Justin lay dying, shot by Majury.

On the plus side, Ava was making good money on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. In fact, she continues to do so with the support of her parents.

  1. I love a story with a happy ending. What’s his name is where he belongs, the pretty girl knows how much her daddy loves her, and everything is good.

    Is it reasonable to point out here, that crazy stuff happens? I question the wisdom of parents who allow their children all the freedom this young lady enjoys in the intartubez. Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor.

    I hope she is taking shooting lessons, and gets herself a suitable weapon at the earliest opportunity. Daddy won’t always be there . . .

      They live in Maryland–I highly doubt it.

      • Shotgun, rifle, and some pistol caliber carbine options exist and Maryland is still better than NJ and NYC. Not great but unless things changed about as bad but different than NY in general. I do think pistol permits may be a bit more difficult but I don’t believe they need a permit just to purchase/own/handle one, would need to look into that to be sure.

        Several years back the highest paid internet star was a 14 or 15 year old kid who’s deal was YT videos of how to assemble popular children’s toys.

        He was making ~$20 million a year.

  3. Haven’t heard many good stories about young women on these sites. If you’re going to let your 14 year old daughter use them, arm them. My daughter owned firearms long before 14.

        I bought my first gun, with my own money that I had worked all summer vacation for, a rifle at a hardware store that also sold firearms, at age 12. Where I lived then, you could buy a rifle at age 12 with your parents permission, without patents permission at age 16.

        • Much the same story here. I bought a used .22 in a private purchase at age 12. Bought a used shotgun in a private purchase at 13. My first purchase of a new gun was a Winchester 30-30 at the local sporting goods store, at age 14. The sales clerk was happy to sell it to me, the store owner asked me to have my father come in to pick it up. It wasn’t a law at that time, he just felt better knowing that my father knew that I had the gun, and I complied. Bloomberg and his ilk would probably insist that I had an arsenal at that point.

        • Got my first .22 at 7. Traded for it from the neighbor up the road with several after school hours of hard labor. Got my first shotgun from a friend of my father, at 9 for more of that hard labor. Bought my first deer gun at 15. From the Western Auto store. It was a 30 30 lever gun. With the proceeds from a hog I raised. Having a firearm in my day was a right of passage and a tremendous responsibility. They weren’t for plinking or playing with. They were a tool for putting food on the table in order to survive. Even at that young age. Everybody had to do their part to put food in the pot.

        • My first gun though was one my parents had given me. It was the first one I could call my own. I grew up around guns and by age 5 I was out with my dad and mom for target practice and learning how to handle guns. Kids where I lived started getting their own gun at about age 6.

          It was not uncommon where we lived for 6-7-8 year olds to be seen out with a .22, no one ever got shot with them, no kids ever had accidents with them, we all knew the rules and safety needs and requirements having been taught them at school and them drummed into us by our parents and any of the other adults around. It wasn’t uncommon for an adult passing by to remind us to be safe and remind us of the safety rules. We ran around hunting and plinking with them, squirrels and rabbits and old empty cans and maybe the occasional actual paper target were doomed and that was it. Kids got guns and ammo and sometimes ‘accessories’ (like a case) for Christmas and birthdays sometimes, mostly .22’s but sometimes larger calibers if they were going to be embarking on their first hunting trips soon and sometimes just ’cause.

          The kids around had single shot bolt action .22’s, I had one too. But I saw a semi-auto .22 in the hardware store and wanted it and worked all summer vacation to earn the money for it. So I was the first one in the area kids group to get a semi-auto .22 and the teacher asked if I wanted to bring it to school for the report thing (if I wrote my report on it) and I did.

          No one got shot, no one panicked and sent the school into lock down, swat teams didn’t show up. Read my report, showed the gun, passed it around a little so others could get a closer look, got an ‘A’ and then it was time for lunch in the cafeteria.

She went on to dance with the Joffery Ballet in NYC, then the Nutmeg Conservancy in CT and the American Ballet Theatre. She’ll kill you today. Five years later I did the same thing with my son. Except, he went martial arts instead of ballet. He’ll kill you too. Just a little quicker than his sister. Almost every Christmas one, or both, we’re given a firearm. I remember a Colt Detective Special and a SAA. A Remington 870 Wingmaster in 20 with mahogany stocks. 1 of 200. Lots of others. My kids appreciate firearms for what they are and like them. But, firearms were so common when they were growing up that they hardly gave them a second glance. After all, they saw me go to work every day with a 1911 on my hip. And a 442 on my ankle. And a Scattergun Technologies 870. And either an H&K 91 or a Galil ARM in the car. Yeah, my kids owned their on firearms and still do.

  4. I think it’s quite telling how TikTok is treated like it’s perfectly normal as if there are no issues at all with it. Trumps departure had it painted as something that was about to get shut down.

    This story would not exist were it not for Biden’s election. Fate might have these life paths converge at some point anyway but that is a big guess.

    Yes, the internet has contributed great things to society. The one great thing it seems to have not contributed was some caution for the parents of this girl. Seriously, I can not understand why parents let their kids use social media like tiktoc.

  27. Kids have no business being on the internet and it’s use by minors should be banned. We’ve experimented with it for the last 20 years and it’s been an unmitigated disaster. The average age of a porn user is 11. That means half the people looking at high definition pornography are under that age. Think of the nastiest most shameful and Disgusting thing you’ve seen on the internet and just remind yourself that loads of 10 year olds are watching the same thing.
    Look at the damage it’s done to our girls with the amount of bullying, eating disorders, narcistic pathologies, self harm, suicide etc. The internet, particularly social media, has been a disaster for our young people. Giving a teenager access to TikTok is child abuse.

      • I find it interesting that, out of all the reasons I gave about why internet use by minors should be restricted, you specifically fixated on porn. But since you’ve decided to focus on porn, You can’t genuinely tell me there’s not a difference between an 11 year old stumbling on a playboy vs having unlimited access to hi-def, extremely graphic pornography accessible 24/7 on their smartphone. It’s literally hijacking our children’s pleasure/reward mechanism in their brains. It’s literally doing the same things to our children as opiates do to drug addicts. And the younger the kids get hooked on it, the more disastrous it is. It’s also been documented that there’s a social media to pornography pipeline, particularly with sites like Instagram and TikTok and it’s specifically targeting kids.
        Social media has also been a cataclysmic experiment on our young people’s psyche. Just look at the rates of depression, self harm, eating disorders, or any umber of pathologies that stem from social media. These companies specifically build their platforms to foster addiction and it’s destroying our youth. As an ex-libertarian, I know what I’m saying may sound like heresy to a lot of the people here, but I don’t think giving kids unlimited access to the cesspool of depravity that is the internet is what I’d call a “blessing of liberty”.

        And no, I will not let my kids go to public school where they can be indoctrinated by Satanic Bolshevik cultists.

          I’m not personally interested into getting into the neurochemical dynamics of what pornography does and doesn’t do, much of which is poorly understood but still argued to death the way the addiction of rats to cocaine was beaten like a red-headed step child until someone pointed out something interesting about cages and social dynamics of the members of Rodentia and magically the entire paradigm had to shift, much to the dismay of those who’d built a cottage industry on a foundation of bullshit posing as science.

          Such is the nature of myopia.

          I will simply point out that for a lot of the history of human civilization it’s pretty easy to demonstrate that children were exposed to “graphic sex in HD” because their sleeping space was in the same place where adults were actively procreating. That is, they watched mommy and daddy and auntie and uncle because there wasn’t really another option. There’s no evidence that this seriously fucked kids up. There’s no evidence for this being seriously detrimental within other ape species either.

          Further, I’ll point out that the whole “no sex before marriage” thing that some people love so much was part and parcel of a society where 30 year olds were often grandparents. You didn’t get that by not having children know a thing or two at what most people today would consider an obscenely young age.

          So, color me unimpressed about the dangers of porn itself, regardless of how it’s distributed. This argument’s been made for decades with other things to explain the same phenomena you mention. Elvis, playing rock records backwards, video games etc.

          None of them have held up to scrutiny, which is entirely unsurprising. You take a creature (us) that is highly adaptive and a product of more complex systems than we even know exist and propose singular explanations for complex behavior patterns and you’re probably going to have, at best, a poor explanation for observed patterns.

          The issues presented by the internet have much more to do with other mental issues, as shown by rats with cocaine and numerous other studies along with the insane rates of dispensing psychiatric medications within Western society before the internet was really a thing and certainly long before HD porn was created.

          The problem isn’t “porn” or “the internet” it’s an overwhelmingly maladjusted society which is screwing up kids (and adults) to the point that they’re looking for something to fill in the gaping fucking hole in their being. For some it’s porn, which is hardly shocking since people can get addicted to/abuse just about anything including running and other forms of exercise.

          You have a society unwittingly designed from the ground up for since the Industrial Revolution to foster mental illness and you wonder how it happened? The answer is in the absolute rush to provide comfort as a proxy for what actually makes people happy and/or content. The byproduct is a lack of personal growth because 95% of society since 1900 has never actually suffered a day in their life and therefore have no well of resilience to discomfort which they gained through struggle.

          These are the issues of secondary, tertiary and quaternary outcomes of decision making optimized towards a singular goal to the exclusion of all else. These particular issues have existed for many decades. The internet just makes it easier to focus on them and scapegoat some of them.

          These are exactly the same problem with social media. These things were optimized without consideration to outcomes that fell outside the stated parameters, found to be profitable in that regard and then expanded to the nth degree.

          These things may act as accelerants and probably do in many cases but they are not root causes. Effects follow from causes, not the other way around and the effects ascribed to these issues pre-date the supposed cause.

        Leviticus 20:13: “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.” (in the sexual sense a man lying with a man was considered an abomination but was also considered an unbeliever as it transgressed Gods covenant)

        Exodus 22:19 ESV : “Whoever lies with an animal shall be put to death.” (this means in the sexual sense, a person who lay with an animal was considered an unbeliever as it transgressed Gods covenant)

          Except God isn’t telling individuals to go murder someone as a sacrifice or because they weren’t a believer. Christians believe animal sacrifices ended when Jesus atoned for their sins anyway. The only people that believe that crazy murderer was a Christian following God are either extremely ignorant or Christianphobic.

          The Old Testament laid out strict laws with severe punishments. They didn’t tolerate evil. What is the punishment for treason in the USA, as well as other countries? It’s death. They considered idolatry treasonous. God comes before country. They laid out procedures such as investigations, involving the community, and taking precautions against false accusations. No one is being commanded to go and kill people they think are nonbelievers. As a matter of fact, they are commanded to follow the laws of the land. There is zero ambiguity about murder being right or wrong.

          That passage from Luke was a parable. Obviously, it’s longer than one sentence. There’s plenty of missing context there. People will find what they’re searching for, whether it’s true or not.

          In the Biblical context:

          Luke 19:27 is part of a parable in overall structure, yes, but the verse its self is literal command and was fulfilled. The complete verse is (like I already did):

          KJV: “But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.”

          ESV: “But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.'”

          NLT: “And as for these enemies of mine who didn’t want me to be their king—bring them in and execute them right here in front of me.”

          “But those mine enemies

          Meaning particularly the Jews who were enemies of Christ, and hated and rejected him as the King Messiah. Those (the unbelievers) who rebelled against him, would not submit to his reign, were enemies to his people (the Jews, believers), and were angry and violent against and persecuted his people (believers, the Jews), and rejected Gods ordinances and the Gospel of Christ.

          “bring hither, and slay [them] before me;”

          Luke 19:27 was a literal foretelling inside a parable, of a command to slay unbelievers. This had its accomplishment in the destruction of Jerusalem, when multitudes of them were slain with the sword by both the believers and the enemy. The verse intent was fulfilled by the destruction of Jerusalem, and no longer applicable so today we can call it a parable but at the time it was a literal command to believers foretelling what to do during destruction of Jerusalem.

          All commands of God for slaying unbelievers were either fulfilled during the biblical days or were negated by the death of Christ on the Cross, except one. Gods pledge to never again command someone be put to death, after fulfillment of scripture (e.g. the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD), was embodied in the sacrifice of Christ because his death cancelled the ‘legal’ (Gods commands and covenant) demands of the ‘law’ (Gods ordinances and covenant) against all. All scripture in which God commanded to slay unbelievers, those commands were fulfilled prior to the Death of Christ except one and that is told in Luke 19:27 which was the only one outstanding to be yet fulfilled. During the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD (by Titus of Rome) as the city was taken by the enemy the believers who obeyed the final command to slay unbelievers rose up and did so thus fulfilling scripture.

          Therefore today, in terms of God – God is not telling/commanding anyone today to go out and murder unbelievers, but God has done so prior to the death of Christ and its all through the bible.

        • Luke 19:27 is particularly interesting. Christ was the embodiment of God on earth as part of the trinity, the son of God that spoke with the backing of God and represented God and spoke for God.

          In the bible Jesus frequently refers to his father as God, For example, JOHN 14:2 KJV “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” – but the context is this….

          JOHN 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”

          JOHN 14:2 “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

          JOHN 14:3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

          JOHN 14:4 “And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”

          JOHN 14:5 “Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?”

          Then we come to Luke 19:27; with Jesus, the representative of God on earth – this verse is so odd to parable telling and peculiar to St. Luke’s report, because its the only time where Jesus issues a ‘command’ in the context of unbelievers deaths with a literal action (“bring them here and slay them before me”) in a parable prior to him being established in the unification of the old (Gods Law) and the new (Jesus and salvation) becoming dominate and believers being released to free will faith. It echoes the commands of Gods law, and is a fulfillment of scripture that it is to be issued when the Messiah comes. Thus it is a command of God being given by Jesus.

          If we go further to Luke 19:28 and beyond we find this is prior to Jesus entering the city on the colt (Luke 19:30 KJV) where he he is praised by the multitudes and goes to the temple and throws out those who sold things there. This is a significant point in the bible, because it represents when Gods law becomes replaced by the teachings of Christ and free will based belief in God (no longer bound to the ordinances and covenant of God). Its also significant because it means Luke 19:27 was the final command of God under Gods law to slay unbelievers.

As for the parable, I don’t think it’s literal by definition, but I’m no expert by any stretch. The missing context I spoke of is what came beforehand. People were left with responsibilities. Those that worked hard were rewarded. Those that were lazy, were not. I think the meaning is that you will be rewarded for being a diligent Christian. There is no reward for not having faith, only death.
