Straw Dogs, Deliverance-Style?

“Ok, you’ve had your fun. I’ll give you one more chance, and if you don’t clear out now, there’ll be real trouble. I mean it.” Fans of Straw Dogs will immediately recognize the line from the film’s hero, a mathematician who finds his inner psycho. For some reason (I’m thinking money), Hollywood has decided to remake the Sam Peckinpah classic. Ahead of its September release, the producers have released one rather dull still photograph. filmshaft.com reveals (to me anyway) that the remake will be based down South. What’s the bet we get the usual Deliverance-style portrayal of sweaty, perverted Southern rednecks (with bad teeth) on the rampage? Critics slated the original movie for debasing women and violence (obviously). In these Hobo With A Shotgun days, expect a surfeit of flying viscera and a sop to feminism. Let’s just hope James Woods doesn’t phone it in.

  1. Wouldn’t it be cool to see a movie about a bunch of nutty bankers come after a nice little redneck family? Like they do in real life except with guns instead of fractional reserve banking.
