SIG SAUER 1911-22 Promotion Too Popular for It’s Own Good

SIG SAUER BOGO gone bad (courtesy thefirearmblog.com)

TTAG’s Chris Dumm recently blogged SIG SAUER’s BOGO (Buy One Get One) promotion. Mr. Dumm loved the idea but was less than optimistic about its chances in the marketplace. “Given the current scarcity of .22 long rifle ammo, this otherwise-brilliant promotion might not get the traction SIG is hoping for.” Sorry Chris, you couldn’t have been more wrong. It’s been so successful that SIG has been forced to tell frustrated consumers there ain’t no mo’. What’s more, an email from Commercial VP Bill Silver [after the jump] apologizes on behalf of the corporate mothership for not knowing where the ones that is, is. “SIG’s marketing department must never have heard of ‘Hell hath no fury as a gun owner scorned,” a particularly narked reader writes. The dashed expectations thing may not be that bad, but it’s definitely not good . . . [h/t DB]

To our valued SIG SAUER® Consumers:

As a result of the overwhelming demand for our recent 1911-22 promotion, we are announcing that allocation of these promotional packages has been fully committed. While promotional product will continue to flow into dealer locations throughout February and March, we will no longer be accepting dealer reorders.

SIG SAUER would like to apologize for the confusion that this promotion has created in the marketplace. From the onset this was a limited supply promotion that was only available through participating dealers. Not all 1911’s and 1911-22’s in the marketplace are promotional firearms. Unfortunately, SIG SAUER is unable to identify participating dealers because the majority of the promotional packages were sold to distributors who service the national dealer network. We urge consumers to visit or call local dealers to determine if they are a participating dealer with promotional inventory available.

Again, SIG SAUER apologizes for the confusion that this promotion created and looks forward to continuing to provide the finest firearms available.

Sincerely,

Bill Silver

  1. They are worried that children will see open carry as the norm, and that they will be intimidated by it. [scratches head] Aren’t the two ideas contradictory?

    • And the thing is that this guy really does it well.

A high-speed camera is SUPER expensive and nobody can do this kind of thing with regular video cameras, no matter what kind of equipment or software magic you think you might have. You have to use a super high-end high speed camera and they cost tens of thousands of dollars!

Then…the thing many people using high speed cameras do not realize is that you have to have a LOT of light for them to work well and really capture the super-high def high speed video we all love. A LOT of light. FPS Russia has tried it, but is not quite getting there.

      Kudos to this guy.

  2. This quote from Sig is in my opinion a lie. This Sig promotion appears as a pure bait and switch by Sig. Per my call with Sig yesterday, they say this promo ONLY applies to Sig Premier dealers who signed up for the promo at Shot Show and then ONLY applies to limited supplies. If you didn’t go to Shot Show you can’t get the program even if you are a Sig dealer. They then advertised this promo to the general public. Some distributors such as RSR are STILL offering a “buy two get one free” but this does not help the dealer who has a customer who requests the offer after seeing it on Sig’s website. This “offer” IMO is a fraud and a lie. As a mom and pop stocking Sig dealer we got shafted. We are done with Sig.

  3. Thank you so much, local “Republicans,” Jeffy Gorell and Scott Wilk for voting for this abomination. We expect this from foaming at the mouth Progressives like Das Williams , Fran Pavley, etc., but not those supposedly defending the Constitution.

The bill, the way it is written, is way too open-ended and subject to abuses.

  4. But as many TTAG folks will remind us. You don’t need none of that there fancy-pants training. Just load up your handgun, stand in your lane at the local indoor range and poke holes in paper that you hang twenty feet away.

    Good to go.

  5. I had an I had one of my more obnoxious friends tag along when I went shooting with someone else. He gave me crap about shooting a .40 S&W, and when my other friend shot a .45, he said, “now that’s what a real gun is supposed to sounds like.” I replied, “Ok, Dougle, I’ll load up my .40 and shoot you a couple times with it, and then let you tell me whether or not you think it’s a ‘real gun.'”

He got real quiet after that, and said he’d pass.

Moral of the story: don’t crap on another’s gun. I swear I’ve overheard more ridiculous caliber and brand fanboyism’s at my local range than I have visiting numerous online gun forums.

  6. The strict gun control laws and security checks at Ft Hood did not protect a bunch of unarmed Soldiers against the self-proclaimed jihadist Nidal Malik Hasan.

The strict gun control laws at the DC Navy yard did not protect the federal workers there from an episode of workplace violence by their whacked-out co worker, Aaron Alexis.

The strict gun control laws on federal installations and post offices do nothing to protect the ordinary, law abiding public sector employee from the nut case in the next cube. But they ensure the dangerous nut case knows where to find unarmed victims.

  7. I’m similar to you RF, only I grew up in a liberal household that kept guns (primarily hunting shotguns). I used to be for “reasonable” gun control as long as it didn’t interfere with my choice and use of shotguns for duck, goose, pheasant and clay shooting.

I saw the light fairly recently when I started reading your blog and a few others, after Sandyhook and IL passed the CCW law.

Now I’m firmly entranced in the “shall not be infringed” camp.

  8. This is a situation where we need to win more hearts and minds; to demonstrate to the oblivious that gun owners are not the bad guys. Blogs like this one definitely help but the people we need to inform don’t come here. We need to have more voices in the mainstream. And I don’t mean Ted Nugent.

  9. 1. M2 .50cal Machine Gun
    2. M4A1 (Full auto variant fo the M4, not the 3-round burst model)
    3. A properly target tuned 1911
    4. A Russian-built AK-47
    5. S&W model 686 .357Mag with a 6″ barrel
    6. M24 Sniper Rifle (Or other heavily tuned Remington 700)
    7. Glock 34
    8. Anschutz biathlon rifle
    9. Colt SAA (Colt Peacemaker)
    10. Mossberg M590A1 shotgun

I could almost break my list down into 10 each of three categories: Long Guns, Hand Guns and Military Weapons. I’d still run out of room.

  10. Here’s what happened from our perspective:

Sig offered the public one offer – one 1911 get a free 1911-22.
After everyone was hyped up SIG pulled a big bait and switch on the dealers:
The dealers were offered one free 1911-22 for every TWO 1911’s purchased.

    Everyone was angry-
Customers angry at stocking dealers for understandably not participating.
It made no business sense at that point, essentially we’d have to invest in an extra $1000+ pistol for every free pistol given out.
Dealers angry at wholesalers and SIG for flat out deception.
Telling the public one thing and giving the dealers an entirely different offer. The information seemed intentionally delayed.

  11. I saw the ad early, found Osage County on-line, paid for a Tac Ops and 2 Spartans. Picked out 2 olive drab and a FDE 22. No problems. Promos seem to be designed to get people off their ass early….
