Santa Fe’s district attorney has appointed two veteran New Mexico lawyers to serve as the new special prosecutors in the manslaughter case against Alec Baldwin and a weapons supervisor in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer during a 2021 movie rehearsal.

The appointment of Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis to the positions will allow District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies to focus on New Mexico’s “broader public safety needs,” her spokesperson Heather Brewer said in a statement Wednesday.

The original special prosecutor, Andrea Reeb, resigned earlier in the wake of missteps in the filing of initial charges against Baldwin and objections that Reeb’s role as a state legislator created conflicting responsibilities.

Carmack-Altwies subsequently had been preparing to appoint a new special prosecutor and also guide the complex case as co-counsel. But Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer said on Monday the district attorney should either lead the case on her own or turn it over entirely to another prosecutor.

Baldwin and movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed have pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison and fines.

Hutchins died shortly after being wounded Oct. 21, 2021, during rehearsals for the Western film “Rust” at a ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe. Baldwin was pointing a pistol at Hutchins when the gun “went off”, killing her and wounding the director, Joel Souza.

A defense attorney for Gutierrez-Reed objected to Carmack-Altwies’ earlier plans to serve as co-counsel, arguing it would be illegal under New Mexico law and fundamentally unfair to a 25-year-old defendant with limited financial resources.

Brewer said the appointment of Morrisey and Lewis, with their “extensive experience and trial expertise, will allow the state to pursue justice for Halyna Hutchins and ensure that in New Mexico everyone is held accountable under the law.”

A weekslong preliminary hearing in May will decide whether evidence against Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed is sufficient to proceed to trial.

  1. The rich, criminal or law abiding, will always have machine guns. And they will always have the best lawyers money can buy. That’s why it’s much more difficult to bring them to justice.

      • That’s it… l’m building a time machine, jgoing back in time and handing condoms to each and every Democrat.

    • Breaking: “transurrection” at the Tennessee state capital. The freaks and their enablers have stormed the legislature.

      • “Breaking: “transurrection” at the Tennessee state capital.”

        Starting early, eh?

This weekend there’s a call for a trans ‘Day of Rage’…

      • Sen. Heidi Campbell (D-Nashville) called to them while pausing on a staircase. “This is what democracy looks like.”

apparently, democracy looks like a left wing staged and choreographed liberal mob calling for removal of a constitutional rights of the law abiding because a mentally ill trans gendered killer killed people.

first, we are not a ‘democracy’ where a mob can decide what rights the people have. Second, we are a republic not a democracy.

No Heidi, this is not what democracy looks like.

        • I would call it “attempted democracy.” Or maybe there’s a better adjective out there? Any ideas? Regardless, democracy in the strict sense is not what we have, and not what we want.

        • Agreed. It is called mob rule. It is what a lynch mob looks like and nobody ever called a lynch mob “a democracy” although in the South and most likely in the north too, lynch mobs were mostly made up of demonkrauts.

    • Our Republic will soon come to an end. They don’t last forever. United States is a young country as it stands today, compared to others. And all good things must come to an end. Let the “national divorce” begin. I just hope it’s a peaceful one.

And yes I’m very serious. Libertarians liberals and leftists who are happy about this, or think it’s no big deal, they will be the ones wondering why, bullets are flying all around them.

      • Will come to an end?? It ended on Jan. 6 2021. That was the last gasp of a political immune system long suppressed by prejudice. The elite are now feeding on the Republic’s corpse by robbing the Treasury (Ukrainian “donations” anyone?). The bullets are already flying, as we saw with the freak temper tantrum the other day. It’s just going to get worse.

Stick a fork in us, we’re done. The Rule of Law is dead, slaughtered by the Left in 2020, and aided by the acquiescence of Republicans. Government agencies now repress the population. Politics is now determined by media influence, but will soon degenerate to blunt force. The violence will only increase.

Find a hidey-hole and stay in it.

        • Jesus, Johnny in another day I would have told you tin foil was for leftovers. Not today.

        • You are So correct. We have weak leaders. They’re morally bankrupt. They care only about advancing their personal position.

There are some outstanding ones in the Freedom Caucus. And I think in the Mises Caucus as well. But in many ways they are simply fighting a delaying action.

      • If we want to do this without bloodshed let’s go with MTG’s plan that was roundly mocked. A national divorce. Force the federal government to pay everyone’s moving expenses right or left to the destination of their choice.

        • The Left will never go for that. In their view, they are right about everything and everyone must conform. Popular culture always has the political right as the most aggressive, but that is a lie, a myth. By their very natures, the right only reacts (hence “reactionary,”) but it is the Left that is the most aggressive. The media tells us the insurrection came/will come from the Right, but it is the left that is leading the charge in violence in changing our institutions. The only difference is the Left uses institutional violence to get what it wants, through control of money (state and individual subsidies) and the application of violence (Federal law enforcement). The Left is now letting loose its paramilitary forces (racial and sexual minorities). This isn’t happening at random; this is planned by real people that few people know about. How’s that for tinfoil?

People have no idea what’s happening and what’s coming, but the commies are making their move right now, and they play for keeps.

In short, we’re f****d, but most people suffer from normalcy bias and don’t realize what’s happening until it happens, and then it’s too late. The Left banks on that.

        • I’m not lost as to what these pricks are doing. I’m pissed that our so called reps capitulate to the dems time and time again. Enough with the go along to get along. Our 2nd Amendment rights are set in stone. I’ll be happy to kill those that would subjugate us.

        • The left would starve to death without us and they know it. They will enforce slavery at gun point before they let us split.

        • “…pay everyone’s moving expenses…”

…including freight to China for those wanting “left.” I may even chip in and donate a shipping container to a needy leftist family. I’d be paying anyhow, why not cut out the middle man (gov’t) and save a few clams. Whiners can apply for passports at certain post offices.

  2. We all said he would walk the day this happened. The only justice this dbag will ever be exposed to is if Newsollini actually make the rich/elite participate in the charade that CA is calling reparations.

    • Are you kidding me?? The only chumps left holding the reparations bag will be the vanishing middle class. I guarantee it.

  3. dont ever forget:
    halyna hutchins was
    1 married to a lawyer
2 who worked for the same law firm
3 that was defending the only lawyer
4 who worked for the 2016 hillary campaign
5 that was indicted in the durham probe

    • So there’s a Clinton connection, eh? I’ve pretty much ignored this story, and missed that. No wonder Baldwin is panicking. It ain’t jail that’s got him on edge, it’s passing away “quietly in his sleep” some dark night. The Shadow knows!

  4. Smells like Alec is getting a free pass. Some “judge” will dismiss this case with prejudice.
    Democraps.

  5. Bash can away.
I still say whomever handed Baldwin the gunm is at fault.
Behhh Hollywood any way. Take away the gunms until it comes to taking away the money that comes with it. Cant believe they continued the making of the movie.

  6. Yep if you are a Leftist incompetent celebrity it takes them almost 18 months to approach a trial despite the fact that the case should be a slam dunk againist Baldwin. If it were you or me we would already have been tired and sentanced to the 18 month in jail and fined. Cops get less consideration in a justified shooting than Leftist celebrities.
