From the Associated Press . . .

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is proposing fines of up to $10,000 will be imposed on members who fail to abide by the security protocols of the House.

Wednesday’s announcement comes after metal detectors were set up outside the House chamber following last week’s attack on the Capitol. Some Republican lawmakers have expressed their displeasure about the new protocol and have been bypassing the metal detector entirely or walking through and not stopping when they set it off.

Pelosi says, “It is tragic that this step is necessary, but the Chamber of the People’s House must and will be safe.” She says, “Many House Republicans have disrespected our heroes by verbally abusing them and refusing to adhere to basic precautions.”

The fine will be $5,000 for the first offense and $10,000 for the second offense. The Democratic-led House will vote on the rule change.

Earlier in the week, she imposed fines for those who fail to wear face masks during the COVID-19 crisis. Both fines will be deducted directly from members’ salaries.

  1. In some ways this is ridiculous…yet at the same time it’s nice to see lawmakers who consistently make rules for us, but then exempt themselves have to deal with the pain.

        • I visited a county building in med-large city recently. I could not take my demonstrably operational flashlight into the building with me…because it rides my belt in a Kydex “holster.”

“Holsters are forbidden,” says ‘security’ guard X, vocalized like she was talking to a child as she nodded.

Can I take my flashlight while you hold my “holster?”

“No, it came in a holster.”

MEANWHILE…many ()read: MANY) county employees, waving their badges to a cop 30′ away, bypassed the MDs, walking through with backpacks and rolling luggage.

Yeah, that’s fair. And a county employee never “snaps,” and brings in weapons.

        • Officers of the Court generally bypass MDs, especially if we know the guard and there’s a line. Call it professional courtesy.

        • If citizens are disamred then every government employee should be disarmed. If citizens are scanned then every government employee from the head judge on down should be forced to stand in the same line and be scanned.

    • Your question doesn’t make sense. The ones that carry just empty their pockets and show their permission slip, re-holster and proceed in. Just like getting redressed after going through one at the airport.

      • “Your question doesn’t make sense.”

When I have to go through a metal detector, it’s to make sure I’m not carrying something that I’m not allowed to carry. If they’re still allowed to carry, then what’s the point? Are they going to watch the ones that carry extra close? It’s to check for carry permits?

        • Dude,

In this case, it’s so that Pelosi can have the CPD record *who* is bringing in *what*, so she can formulate schemes to blame future events on *whom*.

Freshman Rep. Boebert is permitted to carry within the Capitol complex, but Pelosi wants to know specifically who she can publicly shame when the next gun-related atrocity happens.

      • My wife used to knit or crochet when she had to sit and wait(like in traffic court). wooden knitting needles? tiny crochet hook? a pair of swan scissors? a paper nail file? a nail clipper? a tiny pen knife? No, they are dangerous weapons. How long before a manicurist needs an FFL in order to put fashion nails on your wife or daughter?

        • My mom knits when she flies anywhere.
They let her on the plane with metal knitting needles but they had to be tied together at the ends! Like a garat! Can’t make this crap up.

    • So, right now, it’s just a proposal from her asholiness. If it passes the vote then likely they will have to put their handguns in a bin, step through the detector and pick them up on the other side. I’ve seen that happen at various Federal buildings.

      • Does anybody know how she even imagines she has the authority to set and collect fines without passing an actual law through both houses and having it signed by the faux prez?

        • The House and Senate have great latitude in how they govern themselves. It’s not a law, it’s a rule.

It’s just another way for the Dems to show its about control, not safety.

        • Don’t they even get to vote on their own pay raises? I’ll bet none have ever been rejected.

      • Nancy setting the tone for the future administration. Harsh, cruel, petty, vindictive, and spiteful. Just like Nancy and other senior DNC.

It will be bad enough for those who did vote Democrat. Much worse for those who didn’t.

    • It’s just my guess, but Nancy doesn’t trust the member of congress that carry firearms, neither do many of the liberal democrats. This is a way for them to make it “inconvenient” to carry at the Capitol. It’s like a 50% ammo tax, you don’t need to ban a gun if you can’t afford ammo for it. If you need to stop disarm and then re-arm in front of others, what good does carrying concealed do. Of course, if it was me, I still would and let the snowflakes have their meltdown.

    • The point is to limit, severely limit and finally completely take away your weapon. That is where these Marxist, so called liberals, are headed. Imagine a handful of enemies of America, that being Pelosi, Schumer and the bodies they control, deciding how you will live. Our second amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. It is easily understood. It protects all the other amendments. These people don’t mind breaking rules to achieve their ends. They make laws they don’t obey, but we must obey. That is tyranny. They decide their raises, their healthcare, retirement and all their perks. A full pension to members of congress is as follows: 62 years of age with 5 years of service; 50 years or older with 20 years of service; or 25 years of service at any age. You must be 25 years of age to serve in the house or 30 to serve in the senate. Do the math. This is what they do for themselves and we the people have no say. To me that is absolutely wrong. We the people should have control as to the pay, the perks and whatever else these people should get.

  2. Ummm…you Congress critters make waaaay more than yer worth. As mentioned if I visit court, the post office or the po-leece station I can’t have my gat.

    • The correct answer is to be able to carry. Not limit who carries by how much they make, what they do, and where they do it.

  3. Out of their salaries. And “their” paycheck comes from, oh another tax hike and another raise. Minimum wage is good enough for the people who pay “their” salaries so it should be good enough for “them” ,,right?

  4. This is not within the 2nd amendment. How stupid is she? Well need to treat her like tha rest of us.
Take away the Capital peace officers. There job is to enforce the law not protect the senate and the house. In the beginning there was no such thing as capital peace officers.
We the people have the right to go to our house we paid our rent on the White House so therefore they have no right to detain us or prevent us from entering the White House.
They claim that the president is not exempt from the lay whereas the speaker of the house thinks she above the law. Look how she has been trying to take away our 2nd amendment rights all these years and it is like this. I WILL NOT COMPLY.
I am one of the people who risked my life to DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

    • “We the people have the right to go to our house we paid our rent on the White House so therefore they have no right to detain us or prevent us from entering the White House.”

So now you insurrectionists are planning on attacking the White House?
I’m sure the Secret Service will find that interesting.

Oh wait, you are so ignorant you don’t realize that it was the United States Capitol that was attacked by Trump’s insurrectionists, what a twit.

And as to your claim of ownership of the White House, you do know that the White House, like the United States capital, was built with a stolen labor of enslaved workmen?

Even the Ten Commandments state “Thou shalt not steal” and yet, for 250 years, America had a policy of stealing the labor from slaves, along with their property and children.

Not much to be proud of there.

      • It’s nice to see the trolls eating each other, as libs tend to do when they don’t can’t find a fight they can win.

      • If there’s any nation/country/culture on this planet that existed before 1865 and *didn’t* either sell slaves or use slave labor, I expect that you’ll be able to tell me who that is, so we can emulate them.

In the meantime, your use of the genetic logical fallacy has been noted and dismissed.

        • Here in United States, Vermont was first, almost 100 years before Lincolns emancipation proclamation:

“1777 – State of Vermont, an independent Republic after the American Revolution, becomes first sovereign state to abolish slavery“

And your genetic fallacy claim is hilarious, you forget a basic tenet of human behaviors:

“Past performance is the best indicator of future behavior”

And you still haven’t refuted my post, the White House and the United States Capitol were built with stolen labor from enslaved people.

Your inability to refute my citation of historical fact is noted and dismissed.

  5. Is this the same Nancy Pelosi who voted in favor of house rules that barred the use of words like: Mother, Daughter, Sister, Grandmother? — The very same words that she used to refer to herself in a speech just a few days ago. I guess she REALLY IS concerned with following the rules…

    • It’s the same Pelosi who, as Speaker, has a federal officer with a machine gun in his backpack. I
t’s not like metal detectors would have done anything on 1/6. Several Reps and Senators were happy to have their guns with them when members of the mobs stormed their chambers. Boebert set them off and refused to let them go through her possessions.

  6. Well, I ain’t gonna’ work on Nancy’s farm no more
No, I ain’t gonna’ work on Nancy’s farm no more
    She hands you a nickel
    She hands you a dime
She asks you with a grin if you’re having a good time
Then she fines you every time you slam the door
Naw, I ain’t gonna’ work on Nancy’s farm no more

    (Apologies to Robert Zimmerman)

  7. So, will Nancy send out the Gestapo to arrest those house members she knows will vote against one of the bills she pushes? I bet she would be happy to have control of guns in the building, that way she is establishing her authority. That will show those bad white men.

    • Soon not voting Democrat will be considered “Anti-Soviet Activity”, err, “un-American”. The GOP will be raided for their fellow conspirators, or registered voters. Others will be denounced by friends, family, neighbors, or anyone with a score to settle.

  8. Yet not one word from the Republicans about protecting the 2A or their own Republicans colleagues,
Spineless , wishywashy , losers, I believe most of them have shown their RINO colors here in the last couple of weeks.

    • I am determined to join a new, replacement party, because I have been disgusted with the GOP for the past 20 years. I have not given a dime to the RNC since the idiots defunded a Republican candidate out East and actually donated to his Democrat contender! That means they used my donation against my better purposes! The Democrat won!

I used to contribute $100 annually to the RNC, but lately, I’ve only contributed to select Republicans, like Jason Lewis (MN) and President Trump.

I’ve heard a lot about the potential of the Patriot Party going national. Please register it as a legal entity, so we former GOP constituents can move house. Set rules to ensure Democrats cannot infiltrate. Set rules that banish all RINOs, who might also jump ship when the GOP dies its natural death.

Don’t tell me about the Constitution Party, as it has not been an attractive alternative and would have been viewed as a spoiler party if they had any measure of support in the Conservative constituency.

Don’t tell me about the Libertarian Party, which has been too exclusive for the past 30 years. I was attracted by their fiscal responsibility plank, but offended by their plank to legalize illegal drugs. Also, half its members supported abortion, saying the rights of the woman were applicable, and half were pro-life, saying the unborn child had rights to protect, too. In the end, the two factions agreed to disagree, and removed any plank dealing with the subject.

Don’t tell me about the TEA Party, which has been castrated by Leftists from the beginning. The TEA Party was run by people who failed to protect the brand, believing in “the idea” but not “the official organization.” They would not have been subjected to Obama’s political attacks from the weaponized Derp State IRS. They made themselves susceptible to Leftist infiltration, and even had Florida Democrats running as TEA Party members, stripping funding and votes from Republican candidates.

      • The Tea Party is NOT a Political Party idiot. I is/was a conservative movement. The progs/MSM neutered it with the assistance of the swampies/RINOs (SAME bunch now stabbing Trump in the back (YES Mitchie I mean you)).

        • “SAME bunch now stabbing Trump in the back”

Poor little insurrectionist, are the big bad real patriots being mean to your traitorous leader?

  9. They would fix that the same way they fix everything else. Proposal to add annually a $3.6 million administrative fee compensation fund for each member of the House. All in favor say Aye.

  10. A politician, or staff member, who doesn’t want to go thru the metal defector should put forth a resolution requiring all meetings to be done remotely using something similar to Zoom or Microsoft team meetings. That way everyone could stay safely in their office, or even homes, and no one would have to worry about someone not wearing a mask. Let them learn how much fun it is to participate in one of those meetings like the rest of the business community has been going thru for the last year.

  11. When the GOP takes control of the house someday- as they will, in a two party system (or whatever party replaces them) they should simply fine every democratic party member $5,000 a day for arriving.

I mean, they shouldn’t, but what will stop them?

    • The GOP can’t handle the power! Even with control of all three houses, they failed to push through long needed legislation. They should have balanced the budget and capped deficit spending. They should have overturned Obamacare. They should have eliminated all Democrat-appointed bureaucrats. They should have eliminated earmarks. They should have passed national right to carry laws that supersede all state laws that infringe the Second Amendment. And a lot more, but they were afraid to do what the Democrats are fearless to do: cram laws down their throats, as if that would encourage the Left to restrain itself when they have all the power. The GOP can’t handle the power and doesn’t deserve to have any power. Give us a new party, the Patriot Party!

      • The truth is, the GOP doesn’t care about that stuff. They only pretend to in order to get votes. If you really want to know what they care about, then watch what they do when they have control.

  12. Stay tune, this is a developing story!

“On Dec. 8, someone made a simultaneous transfer of 28.15 bitcoins — worth more than $500,000 at the time — to 22 different virtual wallets, most of them belonging to prominent right-wing organizations and personalities.

Now cryptocurrency researchers believe they have identified who made the transfer, and suspect it was intended to bolster those far-right causes. U.S. law enforcement is investigating whether the donations were linked to the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

While the motivation is difficult to prove, the transfer came just a month before the violent riot in the Capitol, which took place after President Trump invited supporters to “walk down Pennsylvania Avenue” and “take back our country.”

    • “developing story…the transfer came just a month before the violent riot in the Capitol”

Hmm. If this was planned out and funded ahead of time, then Trump didn’t incite anything. It’s almost like impeachment has been cheapened to “do we have the votes?” instead of let’s have an investigation and gather the facts first.

      • “If this was planned out and funded ahead of time, then Trump didn’t incite anything.”

Trumps incitement was just another step in the plan, just like Alex Jones, Mo Brooks, etc. with their blood and honor, trial by combat message.

Skillful authoritarians use persuasive oratory to whip their followers into a frenzy, history is replete with evidence to the effectiveness of this technique.

No insurrection has a single individual as an architect, they are built by conspiracies of multiple individuals and orgs, orchestrating a range of strategies and tactics to achieve their objectives.

        • “Trumps incitement was just another step in the plan”

So Trump was personally involved in the bitcoin conspiracy to pay people to overthrow Congress? Well they didn’t get their money’s worth because Congress came out from their hiding places a few hours later and finished up. I didn’t even see the insurrectionists that were posing for photos in the building carrying guns. Apparently $500,000 buys you a democrat walking around in fur, an actor in a viking helmet who said he has magical powers, a confederate flag waving white supremacist from…Delaware, and a well known BLM-Antifa activist who was videoed participating in and inciting violence at the Capitol. Who’s the conspiracy theorist again?

        • The Right isn’t that organized, Miner. Your people might plan like that, but ours are far too inept and cantankerous to pull it off, even if they wanted to try. Besides, sometimes a donation is just a donation.

You keep throwing around “insurrection” like Vezzini saying inconceivable!, but have you ever stopped to think about what a REAL insurrectionist mob might do?

There were enough people in that crowd to overwhelm the capitol police, hang every single member of Congress from a lamp post, and turn the entire capitol district upside down…if they had wanted to.

Instead you got a couple dozen yahoos cavorting in the rotunda and posing for selfies, and immediately afterwards everyone went home while Congress voted to do the exact opposite of what the “insurrection” presumably wanted.

I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

        • Contrast Trump surrounded by tens of thousands of cheering US citizens and Bidens inauguration surrounded by tens of thousands of armed stormtroopers. Knowing what you know about us, you have the gall to call this an insurrection? Had this been an insurrection, the capital would be a burned out husk.

        • Burned out husk? Don’t be ridiculous.

This was an attempt to overthrow the legitimate government of the United States of America, not urban renewal.

The plan was to rush the house chamber, as the members and staffers fled the rioters would move into and occupy the chamber, just as they did that day.
They knew that if they could secure and/or destroy the authentic electoral college ballot certificates from the states, they could bring the presidential election process to a halt.
With no state certified electoral ballots, the election would be thrown back to the various state legislatures.
This would give trump the opportunity to have 50 different lawsuits, attacking each state legislature’s process and attempting to force an immediate vote by the legislatures to select electors.
With a majority of Republican controlled state legislatures, they would produce a plurality for Trump and award him the presidency, against the votes of 81 million Americans.
This plan would’ve succeeded but for a group of patriotic Americans, who acted quickly to save the constitutional process.
Senator Merkley said Senate floor staffers retained the presence of mind to gather up the electoral college ballots in their mahogany boxes and evacuate them from the house chamber before the insurrectionists could gain entry.

May Providence bless these patriots, whose quick thinking preserved the legitimate government of the United States of America.

  13. PROOF!!! PATRIOTS PEACEFUL PROTEST!!!
At last we have the video proof, no violence at the capital, MSM nothing but lies!!!

This video proves January 6 at the United States Capitol patriots peacefully protested, quietly exercising their First Amendment right to peaceably assemble and petition the government.

    MUST WATCH NOW!!!
Before this video is removed by the nanny state!

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m3k4SPY2k0c

        • I’ve got a specific objection, and it’s probably the same as his: You.

Anyone who has been on TTAG for more than an hour knows that you have no information of value to offer.

        • “you have no information of value to offer“

I understand ia video of the insurrectionist’s violent attack on the United States capital during a joint session of Congress, deliberating our presidential election under the rules of the United States Constitution, has no value to you.

But I can tell you, mini actual patriots are viewing this video and moving forward with investigation and prosecution of those responsible for this attack on our duly constituted United States government.

          Rolling Thunder.

  14. “Pelosi to Fine House Members Who Bypass House Chamber Metal Detectors”

Good, fine members who violate rules, or do not, just fine them!

About time elitists at the top had to live by the rules they dump on us mere “constituents”!!!

    • How patriotic of you!

Actually, the technique you advocate has a long and colorful history in American government.

Who could forget those wacky times in beautiful Southeast Asia:

“We had to destroy the village in order to save it”

      • You and your ilk keep throwing fuel on the fire..

Please keep at it! I applaud your efforts for the cause of freedom!

Maybe throw some ad hominem in there as well, you’ve slacked off a bit.

        • I rarely make ad hominem attacks, it usually isn’t necessary as most posters on this forum embarrass themselves with their public ignorance.

Regarding your claim people like me are adding fuel to the fire, my observation indicates it’s the Republicans who are using the language of violence to exhort their followers into insurrection.

Just look at the comment we’re responding to, advocating that the United States Capitol be burned to the ground. That sure sounds like Republican style ‘peaceful protest’ to me.

I don’t recall any Democrats or liberals in this campaign season making speeches about ‘blood and honor’ or ‘trial by combat’, could you possibly point me to that reference?

        • “…could you possibly point me to that reference?”

I respectfully advert your attention to the nationwide events in spring and summer of 2020 involving organizations known as BLM and antifa, and the comments of Democratic politicians and “liberals” thereupon.

        • Thank you for your reply!

Which of these events during the past summer involved the attempted overthrow of the government of the United States, by assaulting the United States Capitol during a joint session of Congress deliberating our presidential election under the rules of the United States Constitution?

Could you point me to which groups this summer assaulted the United States capitol, shouting “hang Mike Pence!” after erecting gallows?

Which of these events this past summer caused the entire house of representatives and senate to run for their lives, as an angry mob violently assaulted their chambers during a constitutionally mandated electoral process?

  15. I’m very happy this has happened. Seriously, I think its great that the people who don’t have the courage to standup for us, the voters, now have to live by the same rules we do. And their party doesn’t matter. All of them, R, D, L have all said “they support” the second amendment.

I have yet to hear a single speech on the House floor demanding the passage of National Reciprocity.

People forget that it was a New York Politian who directed a person to bypass the metal detectors in a government office building. That same person had a gun and killed that same Politian in his office.

Now a criminal will know for sure the congress has been disarmed. A dedicated attacker will have no problem getting in and doing what ever they want inside the House chamber.
And it has already happened. In the 1950s, Puerto Rican terrorist’s invaded the House and killed I think 6 people. They tried to kill President Truman also.

  16. OMG THE COMMENTS .. YEAH RIOT INSURRECTION MAKING ALL NERVOUS . MAYBE IF HAD SETUP SOONER WOULD HAVE SLOWED TRAITOR RIOTERS DOWN , NAW .

WHAT IF TORRORIST KIDNAP SOMEONE IN THEIR FAMILY , AND WANTS THEM TO TAKE BOMB INTO CAPITAL , METAL DETECTOR COULD HELP . MAKE IT SO CANNOT GO AROUND IT .

WHY AND WHY NOT TO HAVE METAL DETECTOR . PRO’S N CON’S OF HAVING ONE .
    UMM ?

      • No, for all his poor grammar and shouting, the poster above is correct.

The capitol was attacked by violent insurrectionists, and all those who give them aid and comfort even after the event, are betraying the United States of America. They should reflect upon their perfidy and treason.

  17. I think this has something to do with the new Rep that she is fighting with. She owned the restaurant that all the waitresses wore side arms.

  18. So…..exactly where does the “Fine” money go? I’m sure Pelosi is still planning on deducting it from the original coffer.
From one cookie jar to another private(ish) cookie jar?

  19. “Section 6: Rights and Disabilities of Members
The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.”

    • “except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace”

Looks like they lost those protections because they engaged in the very behaviors that violate the law.

You know, American men and women fought, bled and died under the Star-Spangled Banner, not the confederate flag of Traitors.

Any elected official who allies themselves with those who fly the confederate banner should be viewed as traitors, and impeached forthwith.

      • At the time men gave first allegiance to their state, not the federal government. Lincoln and his band of impressed immigrants and progressive agitators were the true traitors to the American system. Would that Lincoln have died in the crib. He destroyed the Republic and replaced it with empire.

        • “Lincoln and his band of impressed immigrants and progressive agitators were the true traitors”

I understand that you think republican president Lincoln was a traitor but I’m wondering, do you support slavery out of racism or mere greed?

  20. Firearms were not allowed on the House floor previously. The metal detector was necessary because there was an armed insurrection against our government whose aim was to hang the Vice-President and execute members of congress. Some house members were at least peripherally Involved, so the metal detector was a precaution necessary to enforce the pre-existing rule. Some House members were unwilling to follow a rule that everyone else had followed voluntary and out of respect for the chamber. You act like spoiled children, you get treated like spoiled children.

  21. Wicked Witch of the West Pelosi can be removed, can be touched, she is not immortal. She has no place in DC anymore as an alcoholic demented elderly woman. The cow pasture is calling for her to retire to! She has no power to levy any fines. Only the spineless and those without balls surrender to that bitch! Pathetic.
