Obscure Object of Desire: M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun

I like big bullets and I cannot lie. You other brothers can’t deny. That when you see a .50 caliber machine gun topped by what looks a lot like a bird-watching telescope rattling off a few hundred rounds you think day-um! I want one of those. And why not? The Ma-Deuce (Browning M2) is the sina qua non of rapid-fire fiddy cals; the Marines depend on a video of a helicopter-bourne M2 doing its thing to convince young men to travel to exotic lands, meet interesting people, and kill them. Well, some of them. ‘Cause you can fire this bad boy in single shot mode, accurately, out to 1500 meters. IMHO that’s good enough to qualify the gun “for sporting purposes.” Uncle Sam disagrees. But then he’s a crotchety old bastard who seems determined to spoil all my fun. Even in Texas.

  1. Ronal Serpas used to be Police Chief in Nashville a few years ago and we were very happy when he got the chance to go back home to New Orleans. He doesn’t want citizens to be armed, and when we were fighting to pass laws to allow legal carry in restaurants by permit holders he was very clearly not on our side, and did everything he could to keep those laws from passing. He’s just another overweight lefty politician, not a good cop. I’m glad he’s back home, New Orleans deserves him.

I used to like NO, but after seeing the criminal incompetence of Mayor Ray Nagin, the NOPD, and Gov. Kathleen Blanco I don’t care what happens down there anymore. It’s always been a perfect example of a Democrat-run shithole.

    Meh.

The only guns ‘Uncle Sam’ should be able to ban are ones that are ‘for sporting purposes’ only. Ones that have a military and defensive application are above and beyond their authority to control.

Of course, this is crazy talk.

  3. I once asked an old seargent what the maximum range of the M-2 was. He thought for a second, then responded “If you can see it, you can shoot it!”
If you are off to the side of the firing area, you can clearly hear the bullets flying through the air and hitting the target. It’s quite surreal.

  4. I just bought my first P226 and it is the MK25 variant. Nick is right, spend the extra money and get the 3D bard code and the cool little ship’s anchor on the slide. It might not carry the extra practical value of the Extreme of TacOps versions but they also don’t have a cool silver anchor on them. Now that I have on that looks so sweet I can’t decide if I want to shoot it or not.

  5. I’m probably being a little … something here, but somehow in my mind the phrases “I cannot begin to know your pain” and “Shout out” don’t really belong in the same article. “Message to” or “Thinking of” or something like that would probably be more appropriate.

  6. If the kid indeed kill his sister, he may be one of those types that wonders what its like to stab/kill someone. Kind of like the mental cases that start with mutualating animals for kicks.

  7. My message to Mrs. Terry is your son suffered from believing that his chain of command cared about the same parchment he did. Maybe his immediate command did but rest assured his upper management does not. We live in a world of us & them. Them being the ones who care nothing of honor, service, nor leadership and only loyalty to themselves. Your son left this world utilizing all of his collective training, knowing the odds and moving towards harms way. From what I heard of your son, and if I could go back to that moment, would be by his side….know your heart aches, may the joy of his memories bring peace with you

  8. Don’t be fooled Guys, you’ll NEVER see women like that in India unless you happen to visit one of the top-5 Hotel chains to attend an Indian wedding. I lived in Delhi for 2 years. That type is corralled by guards, and driven around by chauffeurs and they rarely speak to foreigners. The caste system is still around. I went to clubs hoping to bump into a few… Not a change. Good video though.

  9. Probably about 8 or 9, I got a CO2 powered pellet rifle for christmas which I had to pay half price for my mother to buy. Then 11 or 12 years old, by this time I had shot the crap out of the pellet gun and I went to the outdoor range with my dickhead stepdad. First shot a Ruger 10/22 that I was totally ok with because it was exactly the same as the pellet gun, then a .357 revolver, then the big bad Remington 870. Somehow I managed get a shell jammed in the tube because I didn’t push it in just right. I prefer Mossbergs anyway.

  11. My mom was a nurse and knew many psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, ad nauseum, through her hospital. I can say, with no hesitation, 98% of them were nutso: down in the dirt, weird, fetish obsessed, crazy. One psychiatrist had every room in her home decorated in red, white, & black because those were the only colors she liked. Another had his 6 year old son still sleeping in a crib because “he needs the security”. Example after example of people who were so enthralled with analyzing every single movement, perceived hidden agenda, or simply power tripping over another person’s life that they could control. Orwellian to say the least. Done with “the best of intentions”. It is all just ground cover for controlling and manipulating the public.

  12. Corrrect me if I’m wrong, but I seem to remember reading that Gabby’s husband just bought himself a brand new AR 15 about a month or so ago. If this group trying to get guns away from us, shouldnt they be gun free also?

  13. just opened my crate today.
six hex barrels, some with pre 1928 tula markings, star with dots.
some with tula markings arrow in a star, one looks like it has peter the great eagle on the reciever.
most all so far have matching bolt numbers.
not much cosmoline at all on them but the oil is strill dripping.
some of the barrel bandsand hardwar is a bit rough.
some weigh more or less than others due to some stock variations.
    over all KICKEN A.

so far all bayonets match and it came with cleaning jags and handles and the multi-function tool and oil cans all wrapped in cosmo-paper.

overall, very pleased with classic firearms.
