Our gun-averse friends at nj.com have all the details of the gruesome attack above. A TTAG reader emails: “Just a thought…but if the ‘trained’ police had to shoot these dogs a total of 10 times, how many times would it take a lesser trained citizen? Furthermore, what if said citizen were only allowed to have a seven-round mag?”
A law-abiding citizen restricted to seven rounds? As if! Oh wait . . .
This is more about dogs, truthaboutdogs.com, than guns really. Real shame this had to happen. This is why I avoid larger dogs when walking my small Yorkie as big dogs are just naturally aggressive and would see smaller animals as a snack.
As a former letter carrier in fort Lauderdale, I avoided all large dogs, especially Pit Bulls and Dobermans.
“And so the disarmed subjects of New Jersey, having surrendered their fundamental human rights by electing a Democrat-controlled legislature, now recognize their proper place in the universe: DOG FOOD.”
On the plus side, Purina is making plans to open a new, meatier-version kibble factory in the Garden State!
Pit Bulls, or any other aggressive breed, can take a lot of punishment before they quit. It’s in their nature. I saw a Pit who was attacking everyone on the street take about seven pistol shots, and didn’t stop being aggresive until a load of buckshot took him out.
My grandfather was an officer and according to him, shooting dogs dead quickly can be difficult since their heart is a small target. Coupled with their toughness and I’m not too surprised. No personal experience with this myself though.
Heh. Dang whippersnapper.
Seriously, what does age have to do with understanding the concept of redesign? Anyone of intelligence knows this is often needed and inevitable. Sort of like how psychotherapy has moved on from Freud’s emphasis on the early Mother-son relationship to explain mental disturbances.
See what I did there?
Biggest nanny state on the planet.
What a lame ass show. First off Someone please tell that Joe guy to shave his face he looks ridiculous. Second How come they don’t ever show how the gun there selling performs? When im testing a weapon i want to see how much range i have and how much penetration im getting. Blowing up a tin can with some gas in it is dumb and wont tell you anything. It’s just a bunch of smoke and mirrors tricking you into thinking the weapon has more power than it does. Lets snap back to reality clean shaven and give it another shot rjf. We want to see accuracy, distance, and stopping power..(ie) “concrete not tin.”
Wow, at the point where you can’t even afford to get a collar for the dogs… grab back of collar, lift… maybe we should pass a law?
A buh buh buh that’s ANIMAL ABUSE! /sar
Mike Hughes, the CEO of NLT, was the runner-up on the third season of Top Shot. I always thought he was a solid guy. Looks like a good product at a really fair price.
It’s scary how the violiation of individuals’ rights has been pushed to the limit if not over. Bloomberg and others like him are emboldened to enact laws and policies that are unconsitiutional. They are smug in their belief that they know what is good for others – meaning it doesn’t affect themelves in any way.
Remember this too, that many police departments carry both slugs and buck. Whatever you’re thinking about the danger and capability of buck vs 5.56mm, go through the same arguments in your head with a 1oz slug going 1600fps and see if you come up with the same answers.
Well, I’ll get in touch with you shortly Pepper with questions, hope you are past name calling and actually up for providing answers.
Use 9mm if you can’t handle the recoil of a 40 or 45. It’s simple math, you want the most momentum you can have traveling at the bad guy.
Im glad you didn’t shoot your cat. I chronographed mine at average of 700 fps.
No way in hell the this passes with quinn and rahm all in the mix but its the best bill thus far i dnt see it getting any better just worse
One of my regrets in life in terms of inaction was the summer day many years ago when I was reading a book in my recliner by my open front window.
I heard my across-the-street neighbor woman and her daughter screaming. I looked up to see their very large husky mix attempting to tear the husband’s throat out.
The dog was as tall hind-legged as the man. He was fighting it off but was getting his forearms crunched and bloodied.
I pulled on a pair of pants over my jams, grabbed my .45 and tore out across the street. The fight was still going on. But before I could get an angle with the .45 (a Webley stoked with hot semi-wadcutters) I saw the faces of their kids watching me in horror about to shoot their beloved pet.
I folded like a cheap tent, tossed the revo into the bushes, and helped the wife grab the dog’s leash long enough to tie it to a fencepost and then drag the man away.
My then-wife was a petshop owner; I took a bottle of their dog tranks, stuffed 25 big ones into a hunk of ground beef and tossed it to the still-frothing husky.
20 minutes later it was still conscious enough to snap at me as I used the leash to drag its carcass into a travel cage from behind.
It took two large hypos from the vet to finally kill the damn thing on the operating room floor as we both stood on it.
The man spent over a week in the hospital and lost a month of work as an electrician.
Another snap and his trachea would have been finally laid open.
If this ever happens again, I’ll be running the trigger fast and hard.
Just had to get that story off my chest. It still gives me the willies.
The video brought it back.
Wow–Is that a Model 59 in his pocket or is he happy to see someone?
IANAG (I Am Not A Gunsmith), but if the required tensile strength of the plastic barrel is a function of cartridge pressure, and the .380 ACP has a max pressure of 21,500 PSI, couldn’t you make a proportionately scaled-up version chambered for .45 ACP at 21,000 PSI or .44 Special at 15,500 PSI?
I may be ignorant on this matter but I have a question. If guns are illegal in Australia then where would they get ammo to use a 3d printed firearm?
So I bet him $5 he couldn’t get the flag out of his gun while holding it at “Present Arms”…I didn’t know that was 6 months salary
I once started to pet a nice dog that was chained inside to a wall & the owner said “don’t pet my dog”. I didn’t understand that he was trying to make it mean. The dog came up to him for some affection & he crushed its ear with his hand. I tried to report this & nobody wanted to do anything. As has been mentioned, they are what they are raised to be, Randy
Hey, someone who knows AKs better: is that gun Shatz built 922r compliant?
Read about this yesterday and my first reaction is outrage at the 911 operator. Then I looked up Josephine Co., Oregon on Wikipedia and it has almost as many people as the county I live in. Now I’m not totally against helping those in extremely sparsely populated areas but there’s 1 person for every 12.5 acres, that’s not exactly northern Alaska. What compelling reason is there that I should be expected to pay extra taxes so that the folks in Josephine Co., Oregon only have to pay for 6 of their (previously) 29 deputies? And when the taxpayer gravy train comes to a halt they layoff their staff and tell people to fend for themselves rather than pay their own way? Are you seriously telling me that 82,713 people can only afford to pay for 6 cops!?!
Bottom line is regardless of where you live, NEVER trust the cops to show up in time.
It’s a scam. The local government, citing budget concerns, cuts the number of police officers while keeping all the nonessential spending(welfare, pensions, bureaucrats, etc.). When something happens like in the article, the local politicians start up a clamor for more taxes.
Just one more in a long line of examples about how the press did not want to do their vetting job with a liberal radical extremely closely tied to Obama. Would any Senate have ever confirmed such a person if he was white or worse yet, a conservative? Just imagine the true stories and factual information that would horrify the American public if the press had vetted Obama. How sad for America and how eventually sad for all Americans.
Just FYI: almost all AKs are serialized in one way or another, even if the receiver is not serialized.
The ATF considers an unassembled complete AK receiver to be the firearm – just like an AR. If you assemble a rifle using a serialized receiver, that is the serial number of that firearm, even if the front trunnion has a different number.
However, many factory-produced AKs are only serialized on the front trunnion – this is then considered to be the serial number of the firearm. The same rule applies to kit-built AKs, even when assembled from an 80% or flat-built receiver.
Only way you can really produce an unserialized AK is to scrub the serial from all parts, especially the front trunnion. When these parts are not yet assembled into a firearm, that is 100% legal.
Add an unserialized receiver to scrubbed parts, now you have an unserialized AK. Remove the serial after assembly=bad legal times.
Of course, the anti’s fears of “unregistered, untraceable” firearms are ALWAYS just a Dremel and five minute’s worth of time away. NO law can stop that.
“the Sheriff put out a press release warning victims of domestic violence to ‘consider relocating to an area with adequate law enforcement services.’”
This is a disappointing remark. Move? Really? How about if you live in a rural area, tool up. My friends house had a 45 minute response time in the Mohawk valley area of Oregon. They had firearms for everyone and knew how to use them.
Also, things in Oregon went downhill after the hippies got their way ruining the woods industry. My dad went from $19 an hour in the 80s to $10 an hour overnight. He finally cracked $20 this year as a logger. Lots of tax revenue for Oregon came from the woods industry. Nothing really replaced it.
We talk about Free State and Slave States…reality is we must be forever diligent because those who conspire against the 2a are among us everywhere. The line between free and slave is a matter of vigilance and voting often.
These bastards should be told loud and clear their jobs are in jeopardy.
All this discussion over whether there are aggressive breeds, if it’s the owner’s fault, if you should become dog whisperer if a dog runs at you or run away… it doesn’t really matter to me one way or the other.
If a particular dog that is large or strong enough to do damage, that I don’t know, with no owner attached comes at me, it is dead. The end. And I like dogs. But I’ve defended myself against them.
All the pontification and puppy psychology is on the owner. I didn’t choose to interact with their dog and I’m not about to help them train it.
“Sieg Heel!!!”
Congratulations, Ryan Guillen! You won first prize in the Mexican Chris Christie Lookalike Contest. Pick up your box of Krispy Kremes at the dais.
You’ll excuse me if I don’t actually hold my breath while waiting on reasoned, logical answers to any or all of these questions.
Well…so much for expanding where CHL holders can carry and getting open carry passed…The liberals in Austin are gonna block that for sure now if it doesnt die in committee.
I’m sorry, but I find it hard to believe that there was not one single person in his squad, or at the match that did not notice the optic.
They’re a bunch of terrorists, fighting like terrorists do, and there are some in American who actually want to support them with arms and money.
Did they not learn from Afghanistan? They don’t care about us.
