According to an internal Cleveland police memo unearthed by cleveland.com the NFL’s banning off-duty cops carrying in or around FirstEnergy Stadium. What’s more, “The rule, which police said took effect Sept. 11, applies to all NFL facilities and all off-duty federal, state and local law enforcement officers . . . An armed officer will only be allowed inside a league facility if they are working an NFL game or event in an official capacity.” Does that include responding to a crime or terrorist attack within or without the stadium? “Jeff Follmer, president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association, said the policy is ‘disappointing.’ ‘We are police officers 24/7,’ Follmer said. ‘I don’t know why anyone would want to disarm a police officer.'” Or a law-abiding citizen. Come to think of it, I can think of a reason to disarm an off-duty Baltimore cop. Does this count? What about this? Just sayin’ . . . [h/t Dan]
Eff’m! Let them play their stupid games with no police protection except what they pay for. Nobody there but dumb-ball fans, anyway.
Our Walmart just got in the 100 round cans of Tulammo 9mm. About $22 with tax.
I don’t know about other states but in Texas the NFL does not have the authority to stop a licensed Peace Officer from carrying a gun whether on duty or not.
To get serious here for a moment:
While I’m certainly an advocate of armed self-defense, domestic violence is often a situation in which a gun isn’t going to help much. Sure being armed is helpful if the woman has left her abuser and perhaps has a restraining order, but most of the time she’s still living with her abuser. If you have a gun in the house, your abuser has access to it too. Having a gun doesn’t do much good for a woman who still lives with her abuser, and he decides to kill her during an argument or just ambushes her in their home while she’s not paying attention.
That happened to Pennsylvania Open-Carry advocate Melanie Hain, who received national attention when she open-carried to her children’s soccer game. Her parole officer husband ambushed her while she was using the computer.

It’s a cycle of violence. These women are often abused as kids and grow up to be violent and attracted to other violent people. 65% of all Domestic Violence cases are reciprocal violence between both partners. Women in these cases are often violent torwards their children repeating the cycle all over again.
Sadly when it comes to Domestic Violence there is alot of gender bias in the reports and legal system even though studies have showed otherwise. So MDA not only spreads anti gun BS, but also anti male BS too. I just wish TTAG wasn’t spreading anti male BS too. Taking guns away from people won’t help anyone.
There may be an equal number of violent attacks committed by each sex, and I have no doubt that violence by female partners is under-reported, but the fact remains that men kill their wives/girlfriends a lot more often than women kill their husbands/boyfriends.
Can an AG be disbarred for ethics violations because they knowingly let the law be broken?
Maybe you don’t have to be an attorney to be AG, just a mealy mouthed politician. I’m looking at you Eric (place)Holder.
I’m totally unashamed to say that my primary AR (the truck gun) is a DPMS oracle carbine. It’s dressed with magpul forearm and vertical fore grip, a single rail section accommodating an 150 lumen white light with strobe capability, factory telescoping stock, magpul fold flat front and rear ‘iron’ sights and an Aimpoint red dot on the rail. It’s a sub $1,000 build that results in a very capable CQB/GP AR. I wouldn’t store my CAR-15 in the truck!
Great review. Both proven and reliable. Tested both 6-7 years ago and just felt the 870 was a little tighter vs the Mossy felt “rattle-y”. Liked the extra capacity for the 870, too, and at that time you could get a deal with two barrels, although I did not- paid something like $325 or so.
Friend gave me the Wingmaster barrel, which I still haven’t used but am told works good for ducks and turkey,
and I bot a rifled barrel with front and rear iron sights, later to try on for deer/pig – good to 100 yds, on target, but not so often to get that close in open western fields here.
so I am considering to buy a cantilevered rifled barrel for mounting a Nikon Slughunter (DONT buy the saddle mounts- dont seem to hold a good zero for me well and the difference between the mount on receiver and slight movement in the barrell is part of it), for a bit more.
I read forums where claims that with good ammo like Hornady SST you can reach out to 150 even 175…we’ll have to see.
Tried the Blackhawk Knoxx recoil reducting stock and just could not get used to keeping face off the cheek weld, and getting slapped by it- and didnt really notice that much difference, but then I am a big guy and dont notice it much anyway (until 3″ magnum slug… then you NOTICE…:) And the bulky-er fore-end didnt add much in grip, just more stuff sticking out… so I went back to the original.
Concur with the pistol grip caution above- The Knoxx had that built in, but the grip was not much use to me either, but again, I would guess would help with smaller person or smaller hands.
So, back to straight stock, 18.5″ barrel, bead sight- cant go screw it up and a bit of practice and you can be pretty effective for HD for around the house and yard, and a little bit of practice,
If I had to shop today I would take a close look at the FLEX, tho. Get more vs all I have added on, for less, and you get a chance to try what works for you, or other family members, for an all-around weapon. Did not realize the Mossy had the bayonet mount- too cool.
the flex only got 3 stars under the aesthetics category for just being a pump action utility shotgun! not much to lust after? i get goosebumps when I’m around pump action shottys. i would give it 5 for looks.
Rugby’s where it’s at folks, come on over.
Well… it’s not a Glock
Looks like a pinfire. They were very populer in Europe for a time. Probably one of the cheap Belgium knock off guns. Made to resemble a better quality gun from a better known maker.
Wouldn’t go to a crowded stadium if you paid me. Wouldn’t even if I could pack my gun and you paid me. A friend offered me a job in stadium security at the Oakland Coliseum. Gave her a rousing”meh.”
I might think about it… if I and everyone else were expected to carry a .308 battle rifle and a metric sh*t tonne of extra mags.
Too many prospective entrepreneurs just throw around their investment money without doing their due
diligence and they end up contacting someone like myself who has
to make sure they are sitting down when I explain
the realities of the business they just invested their
hard-earned money in. This is often a subtle change and
it can occur very slowly. His girlfriend complained that he interrupted their conversations and that he

Continental Pinfire Revolver. Worth maybe around $200-300.
Thank you for taking the time to comment guys and gals! I’m just learning as I go, so they are very helpful
MG42, the ultimate shoulder fired Alien weapon?
It’s pretty simple: Don’t go somewhere where your right to carry is infringed.
Furthermore, there should be no difference between where a cop can carry and where anyone else can. National reciprocity, I’m looking at you.
This is complete crap and yellow journalism. Basically not real or similar to space aliens stole my toe nail clippings. Every single AR15 is similar to the new town shooing one. So is every shotgun is similar to the one used at he navy yard shooting, along with every riffle is similar to the one used to kill Kennedy. This is just a bunch of gun natzis trying to do anything to disarm the American puplic like the Germans did the Jews. Yes I think its that bad and for the same reason. I am so sick of this, I wish they would be called out on this.
But, but, don’t they know? Guns kill people! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!
I’m sorry I was not even watching the skittle’s…I cant keep my eyes off of her! WOW…Whether she hits her mark or not is not important. She is beautiful and shooting a gun! Two things that I LOVE to look at!! Keep going Kristen and don’t focus on the negative Nancy’s.
Cleveland…
… for those interested, google “Coventry Street Fair riot” and see what happens when the people disarm themselves… and a flash mob decides to gather and have some fun…
… I’ve noticed there’s pretty much a police officer hanging around any hip commercial area. I’ve even seen a PO behind the reception desk at a restaurant… my wife asked him for a table for two… *facepalm*
If the citizen cant carry, then neither can the off duty cop (citizen). No special rights for piggy, Then they wont be sticking their snouts into fellow non cop citizens rights (like many did after the school shootings, trying to push gun grabbing laws that they thought would not apply to them).
Big internet words, there.
Hey Robert,
I realize that I’m about a year overdue on replying to this article, but I am an AK resident (fem) and I just purchased my first home protection weapon – a Smith & Wesson M&P .40. I have two kids – one baby and a 6 year old, and my apartment is in a neighborhood that… well… let’s just say there’s a reason I bought it.
What I’m struggling with is the kids vs. accessibility in an emergency factor. My son is SUPER into everything army/gun related and I am not entirely sure about hiding it vs. telling him about it and educating the hell out of him re: gun safety. He can be pretty mischievous and I’m not sure he’ll respect the DON’T EVER TOUCH THIS rule. But I digress.
I have heard from a couple law-enforcement buddies of mine that a good way to go is a clock safe; it looks unassuming, can be placed high-up out of children’s reach, and is easily accessible in the event of a home invasion. The way my apt is laid out the biggest thing I worry about is I have dual entry points to the outside, on different levels of the house. This bothers me. I feel the best place for my gun is in my bedroom; so a clock safe would fit in well. However, I haven’t found one that offers a combination of any sort – i.e. turning the hands to a certain time to release the lock. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Nicole
Thank You for the insight. The problem is the self-righteous liberal insight that they are superior to anyone who does not see it their way. Control, insults and “I
why move to Texas when New Hampshire was right in your backyard?
Plano was bought by the Ontario teachers union which is very anti-gun.

She’s and excellent shot. A lot better then me :). I would still like to see her cut a playing card in half from say 25 feet. I still can’t believe that Annie Oakley did it from 90-feet. At that distance consistency would be ballistically impossible, especially with stuff available at the turn of the century. And at 90-feet the card would have been pretty much invisible, requiring a secondary aiming point behind it. Kirsten could maybe try it a la “Mythbusters”.
It’s well known as a P.O. S
Piece of S…
Sage words, and from a (I believe) LEO. Who says they’re all bad!
What the GOP should have done is have an all AR-15 raffle and gotten one of those ones with the cute pink stock. Perhaps if they offered a rifle that would go with the Fembot reporter’s shoes or something, she would have been more amenable.
We cannot legalize any kind of behavior that we desire as a society. Some segment will always break the law. If tough laws made a difference you would never see anyone in a moslem country with no hands.
What really slays me is the most pious liberal will run a red light in a heart beat if they are in a hurry. Talk about your hypocrite.
But there’s more to it. Things are worse today than in general.
So much of society now has no savings, no social standing, no dignity. In legal terms, they are “judgment proof.” Meaning that there’s really nothing to take from them and no way to punish them. Whether it is a criminal conviction or a civil judgment, you just can’t punish people who have nothing of value. They are learning at a very young age that there really is no incentive to conform to social standards. Those of us who do are the chumps.
If Obama hadn’t wasted $90+ million on his African photo-op/discovering his roots vacation this year that money could have gone to help save the elephants. The $90 million money could have also been used to feed hungry American school children. The money could have been used in the American War on Obesity which yearly kills about 400,000 some of them children or the American War on Smoking which kills more than 400,000 yearly. The Horror. The Horror.
All this terrorist talk, the only terrorists are in Washington.
Judging by the handle and the trigger geometry I’d say it was a Tipping & Lawden Pinfire Revolver circa 1860ish – maybe a Tranter design.
I’ve always thought that a pistol carbine was a great idea, but recent research suggests that the increased muzzle velocity is marginal, and accuracy beyond 100 yards or so is iffy. And even if they weren’t illegal EBRs in the Great State of California (most of them are except, I think, the Hi Point), we’d still be stuck with a ten round limit. For money, there isn’t a better “pistol” caliber carbine than the M1 Carbine, with double the power and twice the range. (Which is legal because it doesn’t have a pistol grip or thumbhole stock, unless that is the Governor fails to veto SB 374, a bill that will ban sales of this rifle after January 1.)
For the Glock to make the list it needs to still be in production in essentially unmodified form for another 70 years if the venerable and still much admired 1911 doesn’t make the cut. With apologies to the Glock guys in the crowd it doesn’t even come close to the notoriety, longevity or production numbers of the 1911. Form and function are debatable, icon status isn’t, the 1911 wins hands down.
The AK-47 and M16 both have to have a place but I don’t think the Garand even comes close as some have suggested. It’s service life is too short and few people now could pick it out of a lineup like the ’47 or 16′.
I also think we have to stick to the 20th century if by iconic we mean instantly recognizable now.
That leaves us two guns to add. I suggest the humble Uzi as one. A great many submachine guns are called ‘Uzi’s’ by non gun people as it’s the only sub gun they know the name of, which makes it iconic.
The last entry is more problematic. Generically a pump shot gun belongs on the list, but I can’t think of a model that has name recognition like ‘Uzi’. The S&W model 29 comes to mind, being the ‘Dirty Harry’ special, but I’m not sure modern shooters would recognize it. The Glock is definitely in the running for this final spot since for at least 20 years now they are a ubiquitous part of the gun scenery.
My vote goes to the M60 however. From Commando to Rambo to name that war movie the M60 is an iconic weapon in the west. Like the Uzi, any belt fed, fully automatic medium machine gun might be called in the vernacular an ‘M60’. In 1950 I’d say the MG42 would be the gun but now it’s the ‘Pig’.
Were I writing from the Eastern Block I’m sure the Tokarov, the Makarov, RPD, and RPK would all suggest themselves.
If I were writing from 1900 the Winchester 94, the Schofield , and the Colt SAA would all be featured, but this is the 21st century and a FAMAS beats out the Schofield any day now for recognition.
I’m going to go with the 1911, M16, AK-47, Uzi and M60 as the five most iconic firearms of the last century.
