According to the LAPD, two hotel guests who “happened to be martial arts experts visiting Los Angeles from Oregon for a martial arts’ tournament” apprehended an armed robber. They “grabbed the suspect who was holding a gun in his right hand. During the tussle with the suspect, the Good Samaritans repeatedly asked him to drop the gun and stop struggling. The pair was finally able to wrestle the gun from the suspect and took him to the ground with a leg sweep and then held him on the ground until Rampart Division officers arrived.” Huh. So much for speed, surprise and violence of action. Or just letting the guy get away, lest you get shot for a few hundred dollars. Also note: the police arrived after about three minutes, stroll in like they’re looking for the buffet line and pay no attention whatsoever to the “Samaritans” (who could be perps). I’m surprised the LAPD posted this.

  1. That was very boring, I hoping to see some elbows or knees to the head or anything but hugging.

  2. I didn’t see anything there that looked remotely like an “expert” martial arts technique. Scumbag should have gone out on a stretcher with at least a shattered elbow and and an exploded face.
Their “technique” was probably the result of hours of heavy duty x-box dojo time.

  3. Fake news story; people in California aren’t allowed to carry guns, so there’s no way this “robber” could have committed this crime.

  4. Looks like the best possible result to me. I don’t know about you, but if I had to confront an armed gunman, I’d have BOTH hands controlling his gun hand. I wouldn’t rely on movie-style martial arts for a one-punch knockout. The OTHER guy should be bashing his face or choking him out.

  5. I once captured a big 6’3″ man who had been choking a woman outside of a hospital that I was visiting. I wrench him off her and we exchanged a few blows until I got a window for an arm lock and takedown. I held the struggling guy down while waiting for the cops to show up. He kept trying to jerk free. The cops get there, talk to witnesses, all the while I’m holding the guy down with the blood streaming out of my nose making a puddle. I said “How about some help here?”. One of the cops says “You like like you are doing allright”, and they went back to calling their supervisor for instructions. So the lady that was getting choked jumped in to help and kneeled on the guy’s other arm. I had been holding him down for 15 minutes now. They finally decided that the guy was crazy, called an ambulance, and only then cuffed him and strapped him down to a gurney. When they got him into the hospital, he got loose and punched a nurse in the face.

I always thought that the cuffs go on first, ask questions later.

  6. This was nothing like the Jackie Chan thingy I expected.
JGlanton: Wow, what a mess. Where was this?

  7. I subdued a guy about 15 years ago. Grabbed him by the collar and rode him down. Forearm in the back of the neck and cursed him like Colonel Jessup passing a kidney stone. The guy totally believed that the only way he was going to live is if the cops got there right away.

  8. Reminds me of when those idiots tried mugging chuck norris, you can figure out the rest of the story. Its a true story not some juvenile joke.
