“Was the Las Vegas shooter a member of a well-regulated militia? No. Were any of the murderers who shot up schools or religious assemblies or workplaces members of a well-regulated militia? No. And regulated — that’s an interesting word, because no thoughtful person can really argue that guns in the United States are actually regulated in any meaningful way. In this country, you can buy dozens of assault weapons. You can store enough guns and ammunition in your garage to wage a small war. Why? Because the Second Amendment has been laundered through lobbyists, and some Supreme Court justices, to mean something it does not mean.” – Jeremy Scahill in A Sick Country Filled With Guns [via theintercept.com]

Song sung to Eiffel 65: “¡DEEP STATE! Deep State! Da-dee Da-dee Da…Deep State! Deep State! Da-dee Da-Da….”
Someone needs to explain the meaning of “well regulated” to him (and others). The meaning of that phrase was more along the lines of “working well”. Nothing to do with regulation as said today.
The phone “Well Regulated” in common usage in 1790 meant well trained and well equipped, not tight government control.
And the premise was you couldn’t have a useful militia *without* unrestricted civilian ownership. No surprise we cannot form a useful militia defense force today, considering all the restrictions we must operate under.
Unfortunately, when you point that out to a liberal fascist, they don’t care. Facts don’t matter to them. They only care about what their masters want them to regurgitate.
In the Federalist 29 Alexander Hamilton had this to say;
‘To oblige the great body of the yeomanry, and of the other classes of the citizens, to be under arms for the purpose of going through military exercises and evolutions, as often as might be necessary to acquire the degree of perfection which would entitle them to the character of a well-regulated militia, would be a real grievance to the people, and a serious public inconvenience and loss … Little more can reasonably be aimed at, with respect to the People at large, than to have them properly armed and equipped; and in order to see that this be not neglected, it will be necessary to assemble them once or twice in the course of a year.’
It would seem that the purpose of the ‘regulation’ of the militia was to ensure that the ‘people’ were properly armed.
Let’s examine the regulations on guns and the militia under the 2nd Amendment put in place by those who were there when it was actually ratified:
-All free men of military age, with a few exceptions for disability and critical professions, were required to own the basic kit of an infantryman, including a serviceable firearm.
– There were no background checks.
– There was no upper limit on the amount of shot or powder you could own. There was, however, a minimum.
– Private citizens could own fully armed ships of war, you only needed a special license if you wanted to use it to attack merchant ships with the government’s blessing.
Preaching to the choir here, but the guy managed to fit a substantial number of errors into a single paragraph.
It’s so cute when an anti thinks he’s “figured it all out” by reading the second amendment.
It makes me a little reluctant to encourage them to read the whole Constitution, in all honesty.
So many things wrong in his statement.
But a sick country full of guns is still way better than a country full of liberals.
What a moron.
I am, however, impressed with how much wrong he got into one short essay.
“Well regulated militia.”
Why do we call graduates of army boot camp “army regulars?”
hmmm…
The following are taken from the Oxford English Dictionary, and bracket in time the writing of the 2nd amendment:
1709: “If a liberal Education has formed in us well-regulated Appetites and worthy Inclinations.”
1714: “The practice of all well-regulated courts of justice in the world.”
1812: “The equation of time … is the adjustment of the difference of time as shown by a well-regulated clock and a true sun dial.”
1848: “A remissness for which I am sure every well-regulated person will blame the Mayor.”
1862: “It appeared to her well-regulated mind, like a clandestine proceeding.”
1894: “The newspaper, a never wanting adjunct to every well-regulated American embryo city.”
The phrase “well-regulated” was in common use long before 1789, and remained so for a century thereafter. It referred to the property of something being in proper working order. Something that was well-regulated was calibrated correctly, functioning as expected. Establishing government oversight of the people’s arms was not only not the intent in using the phrase in the 2nd amendment, it was precisely to render the government powerless to do so that the founders wrote it.
Regulated refers to the militia not the arms, and it certainly didn’t mean regulations imposed by any federal or state authority. Of course leftists can’t see anything that shouldn’t be covered by a law!
Don’t worry, Obama couldn’t get anything done but the GOP will soon enact gun control. And we voted for them.
Old boy knows better than “some Supreme Court justices”. Good for him.
Off topic, but is anyone going to go watch their local Columbus statue get vandalized by Antifa sometime after 11:59pm tonight.
There ya’ go…I have never bought anything gun-related on the interwebz. Mainly I use it to see the least I “can” pay for items. Oh and they don’t sell anything do they?!? Unlike GunAuction…all this sturm und drang boys????
He needs to read this (but won’t): https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/11/bruce-w-krafft/the-second-amendment-what-it-says-what-it-means/
Well I actually watched Saturday Night Live. It had a country tribute to LV and Gal Gadot. Quite funny with no Trump BS UNTIL weekend update. NRA BS galore. Oh and if you have more than 2 or 3 guns and 1000rounds of ammo you’re a terrorist…Molan Labe. Sorry I don’t give a rat’s azz about Columbus. Lincoln,Washington and Jefferson yes.

Using young Jeremy’s logic I could make substantial arguments regarding the 13th, 14th & 15th Amendments…
Where is the hotel security camera footage??? Something is very wrong about the information we ARE NOT getting. The government is hiding a great deal from the public.
Where are the pictures of him checking into the hotel with his, 13 rifle cases??? Or the 3 or 4 thousand rounds of ammunition??? There is something very wrong going on.
If Liberte Austin endorses the APX, then I want it. Yes, I’m shallow that way.
If you like APX, I think you might like the CZ P10c even more. Check it out if you can.
Well a Democrat accidentally tells the truth again. I guess Feinstein is getting a bit senile, being that she is literally the oldest person in congress. I guess she’s aiming to be this generations Strom Thurmond.
“I don’t know. I would have to take a good look at that and really study it” – DiFi
For a supposed common sense advocate, someone who has been pushing firearms regulations for the good of her fellow man and to save children, you would have thought she would have studied it.
Stop gathering in groups. Some people must see livestock stacked together in tight clumps and think “gee, that’s looks fun!” I’m not one of those people.
Step 1: Read “The Gift of Fear” by Gavin DeBecker
Step 2: Learn and study pre incident indicators and how to recognise sociopaths and psychopathic behaviors.
Step 3: Lock up anyone that acts weird. Just kidding freedom and free will are hard. Do lock up actual violent criminals and people who are a menace to society.
Step 4: Realize that you will never be able to completely stop things like this from happening but do be vigilant and use all available legal options to lessen the chances.
Step 5: Decide if having one of these events every 5 or 10 years (or each month if you live in chicago) is worth maintaining personal freedoms and liberty or if you are willing to give up those liberties for a false sense of security and actually make yourself more vulnerable to victimhood anyway….
The Tree of Liberty died from the lack of water.
Evil people exist in this world, its a fact of life. Even if you banned all guns, bombs, knives, cars, trucks, people bent on causing harm will grind a lawnmowder blade into a machete, use a chainsaw, or mix their own 100% legal percussion sensitive compounds, or just bulk up for a year and use a baseball bat.
I would rather live in a free society with slightly higher risks than locked up in a government run cage, scared of my own shadow.
If people are so worried about getting shot at, Level 3 concealable vests and plates are available.
Ted Nugent should replace Wayne LaPierre
Gee, I thought murder was against the law.
Of course, it doesn’t stop some people from murdering. Pretty much stops me.
He’s right about one thing. Thanks to our “victory” in getting the ATF to approve bump fire, the line between full and semi auto is definitely blurred in the mind of the other side. Now, the impression is that anyone can walk into a gun store and easily modify their scary black gun to do exactly what DiFi has been wrongly claiming they do for years. A key part of our defense of semi-auto rifles is that “they can’t do full auto, so stop saying they do”. Yeah, I get it, it’s not mechanically a machine gun, but do you think that they people on the other side give a crap when the cyclic rate is indistinguishable to them?
It’s past time gun people stop looking at every new device that attempts to work around NFA or state restrictions from only the standpoint of “is it technically legal?” had bump fire not been approved by the ATF, the world would have gone on, the vast majority of gun owners would still never have seen it, and we wouldn’t be seeing every politician that wants to continue being a politician running away from pro-gun legislation like it was the plague.
Of course, this was all done under Obama, and the near certainty of a Hillary victory, so I understand somewhat the desire to get the ATF to throw us a bone. Unfortunately, that’s not playing the long game. The long game would have been to continue to oppose any further restrictions, while getting a solid case for changes to NFA when a GOP congress and president eventually, inevitably appeared.
Stop blindly supporting every new gadget that skirts the rules because “my 2nd amendment”. We’ve just seen the best chance for real progress on gun rights in a decade go bye-bye because of a nut with an accessory that was of marginal use as a range toy.
Why is this the “IMI Systems quote of the day?” Is this author somehow connected to IMI?
“We have supported the existing law on fully automatic firearms. And what we don’t want is we don’t want the line to be fuzzed. Because if you fuzz the line, you’re putting every semiautomatic firearm for years.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8Cqs8CK4GY
I remind LaPierre of what he said in Monitor Volume 13, Number 13, August 15, 1986 “Repealing the machine gun amendment tacked on to the McClure-Volkmer bill will be a high priority.” and that “The National Rifle Association supports the right of law-abiding individuals to choose to own any firearm, including automatic firearms.”.
If you’re an irate NRA member or know someone who is, direct them to this form. It will allow them to complain to the board they need to fire his ass. http://www.theguncollective.com/nra
Exactly. And who knows, the delay and distraction might save the range toy yet.
But either way, the NRA has avoided the Gun Grabbers’ trap/plan to make the NRA name toxic among folks in the middle.
That’s the Gun Grabbers’ real goal – to “other” the NRA such that moderate folks and politicians run away from any association. And the NRA’s primary mission right now is to make sure that doesn’t happen, even at the price of bump-fire stocks. Because if the NRA brand is made toxic among moderates, the NRA loses its power to do anything useful in the future.
I’m sorry but I don’t agree. The people who think the NRA is the Evil Gun Lobby will continue to think so until the NRA takes the position of an outright ban on all arms… and even then they would find some issue with the NRA. Gun control is not one sweeping piece of legislation, its a series of tiny concessions over the years. Because the media glorifies the shooter, because the politicians blame the objects, we will continue to have attacks on our gun rights because the other side has determined their agenda and end goal is greater than the actual public safety.
A lot more lives could be saved by spending it on one or more many hundreds of more common and more easily preventable causes of death.
What is the slide on the customized apx shown, it has lost the Toblerone serrations in favor of more aesthetically pleasing angled ones. I see STC but I am not familiar with them.
I’ve spent a lot of time in Israel. While it’s true that in the airport equal scrutiny is applied to all, profiling based on race or ethnicity is rampant elsewhere in Israel. Our cream colored redheaded Jewish family breezed through West Bank checkpoints far faster than the Palestinians did.
Here’s the kicker: I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing.
NRA life membership cards are burning like football jerseys.
Looks just like my eaa witness pc9. Picked mine up for $200 and its a great shooter. Have not found a holster either so it stays as my truck gun.
TLDR, GFY.
Not to be a conspiracy nutcase…but lets say you know of some single well todo guy with a lot of firearms. You could use him as a patsy pretty easily if you wanted to. There are a lot of very odd things about this incident.
Shouldn’t even be relatable to other countries success or failure rates on gun control . Shouldn’t matter what feinstein Trump, Obama or Harry Potter think. I have a right, in this country, to protect myself, says so on a piece of paper that was payed for in blood. The people who disrespect those whom died for my freedom, have the freedom to leave this country. If they chose not to leave and continue to tear apart the Constitution and my great country , then I can only assume they are traitors spy’s and enemies. I advocate nonviolece however these vermin of freedom are the enemy of America……. pissed off and mad about it.t
