Driving fast shortens the time driving, driving causes accidents. It’s only logical the less time you spend driving the less chance you have for an accident.
A truism: There may be many motivations for the commission of a criminal act, but the criminal law only asks if the perpetrator had mens rea–the conscious intent to commit the illegal act.
If a prosecutor ask me if I had mensrea I’d have to tell him an STD had nothing to do with murdering her.

And it’s exactly correct. Crime cannot be prevent by a law. preventing someone from legally buying a gun does almost nothing in stopping a person who wishes to find a gun to steal or buy. Or build. (sorry all you builders out there but it is true)
But until we get a media willing to present fairly both sides of the argument the pols will continue to pass gun laws that save no lives. No one ever makes them back up their claims of a law saving lives. Because they can’t.
Laws were never intended to prevent Crime. They were enacted as a prescribed penalty for committing a crime. The only things that will prevent crime is having the proper Morals, Ethics and of Course Killing the Criminal to prevent Recidivism.
Many laws, ie gun control, are created to control law abiding citizens.
Politicians with laws never stop bad guys with guns.
They only control the good guys, which is their true agenda.
The death penalty is effective in preventing recidivism….and tyrannical politicians. Should one be executed wrongly for a crime not committed, it is a travesty. With politicians, it is still a positive feature.
Building a firearm requires some skill and it is not cheap. I guess that “some soon to be criminals” will build their own weapons, but it is easier/cheaper to get one by other means(usually stealing it or buying one that has been stolen.
Criminals are usually lazy and will do things in the easiest way possible, so building firearms are not what they want to do.

One must stop farming out one’s personal safety to others that SCOTUS has, at least three times, told us they have no duty to protect. That’s the Second Amendment’s “citizens right to keep and bear arms” in a nut shell.
