“At Tuesday’s city council meeting, the Grapevine City Council approved funds for animatronic gun fighters to be placed atop the new Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Building,” pegasusnews.com reports. “The two gunfighters will be called ‘Harris’ and ‘Sam Bass.’ Once completed the animated gun fight will take place daily at high noon and six o’clock pm. The show will last for roughly four minutes. The price tag for the animated gun fighters will be $161,840.”
Munich has its Glockenspiel, and Grapevine will have its Gunfighters. Sounds kind of cool, but probably not enough to get me to visit Grapevine, TX.

One part says “WTH? Why spend this amount of money?”, the other part of me, the part that’s been to Tombstone and seen the pathetic nature of their “Gunfight at the Ok Corral” exhibit sees the need for this sort of thing.

God I love Texas! How cool is this?! I’ve seen the animated. mechanical figures in Munich firsthand. So why not? Grapevine is an affluent city in the D/FW Metroplex, and anything they can do to draw attention to the city like this seems to me to be a good idea. Remember, 38% of the jobs created last year were created in Texas. No state income tax. Phenomenal growth. Texas ALWAYS thinks big. This is just one more example.
Brad, Texas does think big. They are 43 out of 50 in HS graduation rate, but thanks to their 4 billion dollar education cuts for the next budget , they might make it to 50. They do have a smaller debt load than California in terms of total dollars, but per-citizen, they owe $10,621 compared to California’s $9,923, so they are not the worst, but they are worse than the poster-child for irresponsible government. Also, even as their governor loudly complained about the Obama stimulus package, he used the federal money allotted to Texas to plug a huge state debt. And while there might have been a huge number of jobs created in Texas, and there is a lower unemployment rate in Texas than the national average, Texas has almost 16% of its population living below the poverty rate, ranking it 42nd in the nation.
Say thank you to the illegal alien population for those statistics

Does California get the same pass for its state debt troubles if your claim is correct since they have a larger illegal immigrant population?
Did Gov. Perry choose to be hypocritical because of the illegal immigrants?
I certainly agree that illegal immigrants drive down the average wage earned.
What they should be doing is using this money to create a futuristic race track of sorts. They should put some awesome modified vehicles on there and have the local prison population fight/race for their lives. How cool would that be?
If the track and the vehicles cost too much I would say put implants in those same prisoners and have people – lets call them ‘Gamers’ – control those very same convicts.
I just hope that it doesn’t result in the death of a prominent public figure that seems a little shady or the unwitting release of a maybe innocent prisoner.
I give those things about two weks in the Texas heat before they go haywire and start shooting up the local populace.
