But I’d like to know why the driver thought it a good idea to drive straight through the line of fire. On the other hand, watch the video to the end and you’ll see an armed American doing it right: shoot as you run away. Move and shoot. Of course, this technique (taught by gun guru Rob Pincus) should only be used as a last resort. Firing indiscriminately is a gang banger’s modus operandi. Not that the black guy in the white T-shirt escaping aeration was a criminal. Perish the thought! He was just defending himself, as are Oakland residents who can afford to hire private security [more info after the jump]. See how that works? Gun control is the great unequalizer . . .

The video said the fine, upstanding, hoodie-wearing gentlemen were shooting at the red car, which was passing the dash-cam car in the opposite direction.
If that is the case, the pillars of the community were probably sweeping their line of fire across the dash-cam car from front to rear, so moving forward might have been out of the line of fire.
The driver of the car apparently only speaks Spanish? Maybe he’s from the cartel areas of Mexico, now living in a ‘sanctuary city’ and to him, it was just another day. Only they weren’t using long guns provided by fast and furious…
Immediate action drill is to drive thru the ambush.

Sounded like an Asian language, perhaps Korean. He’s probably a business owner and installed a dash cam to protect his company vehicle in case of an accident, that way he’d have evidence on camera. There was another report from California from another Asian man that captured a case of road rage on a dash cam that was installed for the same reason.

Aaaaaaaand sadly, that’s why most of my family in the Bay Area doesn’t live in Oakland anymore. I feel sorry for them that Cali’s ridiculous gun laws don’t make it easier to defend themselves, and their only recourse is to just move away to another Bay Area city.
Nothing to do with TTAG, but I don’t watch videos with forced 30 second advertisements…. They do monitor how many users stop watching, and if enough of you refuse to watch the advertisement, they will remove them.

This is Kalifornia… There should be some kind of labelling system so I can weed these stories out of my newsreader without having to waste my time for things I don’t care about.
Oakland does not have a single gun store. The walmarts in alameda county, which is were oakland is, do not sell guns or ammo. Alameda county is next to impossible to get a carry permit in unless you’re connected. I’m not connected. But Oakland really is the wild west, as pictured by Hollywood.
The man in the white shirt was shooting back so he wasn’t arrested? It’s almost a sure bet that he had no permit. He was firing and got a pass. I was not firing but I also got a pass for not having a permit. In Alemeda county, which covers a lot of territory, this is not an unheard of thing. But it would be nice to have the permit and there’s no valid reason not to issue to people with clean records.
And in spite of everything you pointed out, legislator Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) is pushing for a new law that would undermine California’s gun licensing and registration pre-emption, allowing the City of Oakland to institute more restrictive firearms laws than those of the state.

I think they need to differentiate between the real west and the west that they showed in the movies. Big shootout with people on the roofs and the whole town being killed did not happen often if at all. I have a feeling it was way more peaceful then what we have now.
Northfield MN and Coffeyville Kansas were two towns where the whole citizenry came out to defend the town from outlaws.
And because thse type of events were so rare outside of Saturday Matinee’s they are still talked about over 120 years later.

Interesting that the Oakland cops seem to recognize the right to armed self defense, even if the state of Cali doesn’t. That, and I’m sure they’d rather not have to arrest armed kids who fully expect to die at any moment. Much more fun to beat up on unarmed hippie Occupy protestors (which they did quite enthusiastically) than to actually protect citizens from dangerous criminals.
I think this is the future – the cops are being militarized by DHS to deal with civil unrest, not crime, so crime will flourish, and those who can afford to will hire private security. I’m sure
