In yet another object lesson that prohibition doesn’t work, Mayor Mike and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly are trumpeting a huge illegal weapons haul. An undercover cop bought a total of 254 guns (New York’s largest seizure ever!) in 45 transactions over ten months that were imported into the Big Apple by two aspiring arms dealers. This highly sophisticated operation took advantage of the latest in illicit covert logistical technology to slip the contraband into famously anti-gun Gotham. Translation: Walter Walker and Earl Campbell put the guns in some suitcases and took the bus up from the Carolinas a few times. Once the masterminds got to the big city, they sold their ballistic booty – which included parts of…an assault rifle – to an undercover NYPD operative in a Brooklyn recording studio, apparently with the help of an “aspiring rapper” who was cunning enough to throw pics of some of the heaters and cash up on Instagram. Another major victory in the Bloomberg administration’s never-ending war against morons who advertise their criminal activity in the city that never sleeps.

  1. The purpose of this is the same as that of Fast & Furious: to lay justification groundwork to eliminate ALL guns in ALL states.

    • elliot Ness had a checkered career and killed himself with his pistol. Here’s hoping kapo bloomberg starts to see himself as Ness.

        • He did he collapsed and died at his home of a massive heart attack on May 16, 1957, at the age of 54 also he was penniless at the time having spent all his money drinking

        • My bad. But the heavy drinking and early heart attack are still something to hope for with kapo bloomberg.

        • Drinking yourself to an early grave at 54 is simply a slow form of suicide. Hard drinking in your 80’s, on the other hand, just seems like common sense.

  2. If they were selling RPGs, fragmentation gernades, fully auto firearms, and stinger missles, then this would be a job well done. Instead that was what the real gun runners (CIA) were doing in Benghazi.

These guys committed the crime of selling prefectly legal firearms (some semi-automatic, OH MY GOD!) in a civilian disarmement zone (NYC).

    • I don’t even care if they were selling full-auto. There is absolutely NO reason we should not be allowed to buy a brand spankin’ new M4, AK, P-90, Glock 18, etc.

  3. The last public figures I have ,based on an ATF trace report stored at my local library, show that crime guns in Hoplophobe-friendly zones come from the same state in question. The Chicago,NYC,and LA community reports all say the same thing,at least as of 2004- only a fraction of the guns traced by LE come from out of state. Its not info likely to be trumpeted from the media ,because it reinforces the fact that gun control is a false god,to borrow a Stargate phrase.Whether we ban guns or repeal every gun law ever made, the scumbags have enough hardware in local circulation for their needs.

  4. I don’t know if I believe this story. Their biggest bust conveniently happen days after his stop and frisk was ruled unconstitutional? Now this idiot is out there claiming this bust shows how lax gun laws at the federal level hurt everyone.

    • Perhaps they’re trumpeting this one, hoping we’ll forget that the last big gun-importing-bust involved one of NYPD’s own, and he imported an M16, to boot. I think Bloomberg should tell a knock knock joke, first, just for the mind-wipe value.

    • Bingo. From the article: “A wiretap showed the defendants feared becoming ensnared by the police department’s stop-and-frisk policy, Mr Kelly said.”

  5. So these fine gents purchased perfectly legal weapons and then brought them to NY where they are now contraband.

but anyone could have been free to drive down to NC themselves and buy these guns.

Mayor Bloomberg should stick to banning cokes

  6. “A large majority of the guns seized were purchased by an undercover police officer in 45 transactions since 2012, authorities said.”

So an average of 6 guns per transaction.

    OMG! Large scale gun trafficking!

    Oh wait. Maybe not.

This reinforces Kleck’s research that “Big-time Gun Trafficking” is largely a myth: http://www.uclalawreview.org/?p=100

  7. “A new audit (2011) found that the NYPD Brooklyn Property Clerk Division, which stores guns picked up from crime scenes and service weapons handed in by cops, has serious glaring flaws, including a missing shotgun and a backlog of firearms to be destroyed. And on one wildly inconsistent NYPD report, it was written that the property unit registered 2,729 firearms for 2009, but the monthly reports for the same period added up to only 1,684 guns.”

Maybe D1ck Tracy should have been tracking 1000 lost police guns instead of traipsing all over the east coast on the people’s dime.

  8. Watch the NSA and CIA try to get a piece of this. But according to the NY Daily News, it was actually because of a drug bust [http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/largest-seizure-illegal-guns-announced-article-1.1430629], so the gun thing is gravy for Batman and Robin. The tipoff: “The gun-sales case began a year ago when an unrelated narcotics investigation…”

And for those keeping score re: the criminal masterminds:

Campbell, 23, is accused of selling 90 guns, including two assault rifles, for nearly $75,000, during 24 meetings with the undercover officer beginning in October.

Walter Walker, 29, of Sanford, N.C., is accused of selling 116 guns, including five assault weapons and a machine gun, for $82,000 during 19 meetings with the undercover detective over 10 months beginning last September.

Both men personally carried up to 14 guns at a time to the city, often traveling on overnight buses to Chinatown, Kelly said.

    Goldfinger these guys are not…

  9. “Year after year guns flow into our city from states that don’t have common sense gun laws,” Mr Bloomberg said on Monday, adding that North and South Carolina were among the top-three sources of guns used in crime in the city.”

Looks like Virginia is getting some competition as the point-source of evil in the universe. Gotta pick on those redneck cousin-humpin’ southern states you know.

Yeah, we don’t have your not-commonsense gun laws Mayor Big Gulp. We also don’t have your crime rates.

    • We never hear the answer to that. All the bad guns seep in from the surrounding gun-saturated states, but these states that are “awash” in guns don’t have NYC crime rates. I suppose the little guy has to blame someone though, since Kelly can’t get a handle on it. Even the “Bloomberg math” used to compute the crime rate can’t hide the fact that much of NYC is a dangerous, toxic place.

  10. “Year after year guns flow into our city from states that don’t have common sense gun laws.”

Having gone through the upstate New York pistol licensing process many years ago, I have always felt that NY State gun laws are the ones that have long left “common sense” territory, while Arizona gun laws seem pretty common sense to me. I guess it’s all a matter of perspective.

  11. Happy they seized some illegal guns, but then again, what’s it going to do? How many “record” drug seizures have there been yet the illicit substances keep on flowing?

  12. Wait a minute. I’m confused here. How can the police “seize” guns that they purchased? Second, why are these guns “illegal”? For all we know, the guns were purchased legally from gun stores in other states. If the buyer wants to resell them, that in and of itself is not an illegal act. Or is it that the guns are “illegal” simply because that particular weapon is banned in NY or NYC (e.g., for large capacity mags or some such)? Ad is this going to turn into one of those cases, as recently reported for the ATF, where the agents were paying such a premium to buy guns that the sellers were going out of their way to legally purchase firearms for resale because they were turning such a nifty profit?

  13. Staged, like everything else these con men do. I’m sure the New Yorkers fell for it hook Lin and sinker. They are dumb as hell.

  14. The only way you stop a bad guy with a gun is with a legal guy with a gun. If these thugs and punks would star dying instead of their innocent victims you would see violent crime drop immediately .Gun free zones what a sick joke, like the thug or evil criminal will obey the rule. We need courses in colleges and universities mandatory foe all degrees , courses in common sense.
