Chicago Police Chief Can’t Say the “G” Word After 52 Weekend Shootings

“Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson expresses frustration at the pace of gun violence in the city.” That’s the terse some-might-say jaundiced description provided by The Chicago Tribune underneath their YouTube excerpt of Sup. Johnson’s most recent press conference. A PR event stimulated by a weekend wherein 52 people were shot.

The city’s outpacing last year’s shooting total by a long chalk. Last year, 2,988 Windy City residents were ballistically perforated. So far this year, 2600 suffered the same fate. Regardless, notably absent from both the Superintendent and the Trib: any mention of the “g” word.

“Year-to-date, 2016, nearly 85 percent of our shooting victims, both fatal and non-fatal shootings, have had prior contact with the police,” Johnson reveals. Speeding tickets? I don’t think so. Hello? We’re talking gang bangers banging. Period.

“We’ve identified that small segment of individuals behind this violence,” Johnson reveals. But their days are numbered, he promises. There’ll be more prosecutions of…gang members!

Only Superintendent Johnson can’t bring himself to mention the criminal segment’s group affiliation by name. They are the Black Disciples, Insane Popes, La Raza, Maniac Latin Disciples, Simon City Royals, Spanish Gangster Disciples and Spanish Lords.

There. That wasn’t so hard, was it? Maybe not as easy as calling for gun control, but easy enough. As it says on my long slide 1911, know your enemy, know yourself. Otherwise bad things happen.

Agh, the Sharks and Jets were just as bad in my day. They even sang and danced about their misdeeds. Krupke really had his hands full.

    1. avatar california richard says:

Whats the world coming too? If you wanted to be in gang back then you needed a BA in dance and tap from Juilliard….. Now just let in any idiot!

        APM & CR:
Snorted my hi-ball on the keyboard from those two comments.
I really needed and appreciated that.

We have the same f’n issue here in the Gunshine State.
Black on black shootings are as high as the humidity.
And the # is rising. Not only are there never any witnesses; if one steps forward, they recant before trials.
Ft Myers po-po admin and ALL the media here in Lee Co. refuse to ever use the G word. Why?
        Because of the T word.
        Touri$m, plain and $imple.
My LEO friends are frustrated as well over this Orwellian manipulation.

So, mucho gracias for the relief.

        1. avatar MeRp says:

Humidity is rising in FL and they are hoping to increase tourism? Ugh.

    2. avatar Greg says:

If he wasn’t terrified of losing his job, the Chief would describe the violence in accurate terms – black and brown violence related to street gangs. But, he doesn’t want to find himself in the unemployment line.

    3. avatar CPC says:

“…’cuz no one wants a kid with a social disease.”

  2. avatar ed says:

At least this guy is putting the blame squarely where it belongs. I’ve listened to the Chicago jackasses scream “too many gun’s” “it’s the gun’s fault” for twenty years on the local news, this guy is at least refreshing.

  3. avatar FormerWaterWalker says:

Oh he doesn’t want to upset his constituents. He’s particularly pizzed off as his former partners kid got murdered(home from a very high end college I can’t quite recall). But the supe wants tough sentences-which MAY happen. Meanwhile cops go on trial for shooting black criminals committing crimes(Laquan McDonald). And gangs attack white folks after a black cop shoots an armed black thug in Milwaukee…arm up. Summer in Chiraq is extremely hot and sticky this year.

    1. avatar NYC2AZ says:

…he doesn’t want to upset his constituents.”

Truer words have rarely been spoken.

      1. avatar Me says:

Constituents are for those that have been elected. The chief of police has no constituents, he is appointed. He has only a responsibility to his bosses, the mayor and city counsel. The rest of the population is their for revenue.

  4. No no no…Don’t you guys get it…It’s states with lax gun laws that are fault here.

    Chicago gun laws are fine.

  5. avatar Pascal says:

When did gangs and gang violence become PC protected speech?

    1. avatar LarryinTX says:

      January 2009.

How did Charles Dutton get the Chicago top cop job?

He is a convicted felon, ex-con, murderer and gun criminal and member of the original Black Panthers. – Oh yeah – he’s also a Hollywood movie star and a life-long democrat.

  7. avatar Joe R. says:

Breeding ground for lots of bad. Thick with (D)

Where’s the outcry from Mrs. O’Leary’s civic group “Black Cows Matter?”

  8. avatar Alinsky says:

It’s going to get a lot worse and spread to the rest of the big blue cities.

The US will become another Venezuela, at least as far as the cities are concerned with homocide rates approaching 1:1000. Good Job Democrats !!!!!.

  9. “Gun offenders”? Why not call a spade a spade? They are gang banger’s.

    1. avatar Pantera Vazquez says:

Must not offend those who say things along the lines of: “He could have been my son”.

  10. avatar Ralph says:

“Chicago Police Chief Can’t Say the “G” Word.”

Superintendent Johnson so stupid that there are thousand of words he can’t say, or even understand. He also can’t read to himself without moving his lips.

Johnson won’t say “gang” because he works for one.

  11. avatar Tym O'Byrne says:

Amazing what poor shape those guys are in, me thinks the biggest threat to them is heart disease.

  12. avatar Omer Baker says:

It’s all political. This article may be almost 5 years old but I doubt anything has changed.

  13. avatar Jonathan - Houston says:

He keeps using that word “unacceptable” to describe the gang violence. You know, when a situation persists for generations, with no serious success toward ending it and people don’t just leave, that pretty much means it’s acceptable.

  14. avatar Mack Bolan says:

Say what you will but when the feds cracked down on the mob, you got lower class, less intelligent, criminal gangs. Breaking up the mob was not a good play for western civilization.

The mob at least had some class and sophistication because they were civilized. Black and brown gangs are just sloppy murdering buffoons.

  15. avatar Jay in Florida says:

What ever happened to use a gun get locked up and stay locked up.
No parole, no TV no exercise yard, no computer.
Just a 8×8 room a bed with no sheets.
Heck bread and water 3 times a day.
Then maybe they might not wish to kill each other??
Other side of the coin and totally un PC.
Who cares if they kill each other??
Just learn gun control is hitting what you aim at.
Not the poor kid or grandma in the next room or across the street.
Kill an innocent….off with your head.
    Problem solved

    Now back to reality folks.

    1. avatar former water walker says:

I’ve often opined they bring back CHAIN GANGS. Sorry I’m not PC 🙂

  16. avatar Crowbar says:

The Insane Popes?? Really? I wonder if their leader is named Francis and they are angry at whitey for climate change and lack of wealth redistribution.

  17. avatar Rusty Chains says:

OK, since no one else here is saying it, what we have here is Democrats shooting Democrats in a Democrat city. Not exactly PC to say it, but the people of that city voted in the Democrats many years ago, and now years later that orchard is bearing the fruit that comes with the Democrat plan to fix America. Go ahead and stay home on election day all you #nevertrump people, leave us to the tender mercies of the kind of catch and release justice system that will come along with all the rest of anti freedom statist, anti gun crap that Hillary is going to hit us with.

  19. avatar Phil LA says:

Thank God all the athletes and visitors “dodged a bullet” when the International Olympics Commitee decided on having the games in Rio instead of Chicago.

  20. avatar Sam says:

In the late ’80s/early 90s, the city I lived in went through the same crack driven drug crime as everywhere else. The police and prosecutor’s solution was to essentially try to keep the gangs contained and let them kill each other.

Perhaps the civic leaders of Chicago are engaged in a similar approach? However, After 30 years of such an experiment in Chicago, a sentient being would be forced to conclude gangs are capable of recruiting new members as fast as they’re killed and try something different.

    1. avatar former water walker says:

It’s a helluva’ lot longer than 30 years Sam. Google 1970’s murder/ crime in Chicago. Way more killings then. And I recall some really nasty rioting in April 1968.

  21. avatar Joe says:

No wonder this idiot is stepping down to be the chief of police at Northeastern Illinois University. Good riddance.

  22. avatar Silverado says:

There shouldn’t be a crooked Hillary supporter within 100 miles of this website and if there is they need therapy or a brain transplant. Quickly too! All the blood of the innocents is on the hands of these anti-gun nuts, these DemocRATic, criminal, anti-gun nuts, especially there in Chicago, that have been running the show for decades as well as the failing schools. Add in no jobs as the DemocRATs are job exporting specialists and what you see happening in our big cities is what you’re going to get 4 more years of by supporting and voting for a warmongering neocon like crooked Hillary and Co. They’re beyond pathetic and so are the dwindling numbers of their supporters…

  23. avatar Pete says:

But of the Chicago gangs are put away, who will turn out the Democrat voters?
