Chicago Cops: NFL Ban on Off-Duty Carry in Stadium is an Insult. To Them.

“Chicago police officers are trained to use firearms to save lives and defend law-abiding citizens,” Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Prez Mike Shield told chicago.cbs.local. “It is an insult that a state certified law-enforcement officer cannot carry his duty weapon at an NFL event.” Does that mean that the existing ban against concealed carry for the general public now in effect at all NFL games throughout the country is not an insult against law-abiding citizens who want to defend themselves? The news org also quotes “two veteran Chicago police officers” who disagree with the policy. “If you don’t have someone that could respond to a deadly-force incident that could cause more lives to be in jeopardy,” one officer said. Someone like . . . a citizen with a concealed carry permit (where such things are required)?  “You’re never just a spectator,” the other cop said. “Even when I’m off-duty, I’m supposed to get involved.” Maybe he should get involved with defending and extending gun rights for all Americans. Just sayin’.

  1. Soooo now they are upset! When it was the “other” civilians getting screwed, it’s OK. Now that the “special” civilians are being told no protection, they are up in arms (pun intended).

  2. I can only see this as bring a useful backup to your main gun. I would never carry this alone, but it would be a nasty surprise to have this hidden in deep concealment as backup to the glock on your hip.

Then again though, I’m 19 and living in California. So not only can I not buy this (approved handgun list, and federal minimum age law), but I am also currently being denied my civil and constitutional rights.

  3. Screw them. They are civilians like the rest of us. Their service piece(s) should be secured at the station when they are off duty. That should be the law for these anti-gun agencies. They shouldn’t be able to carry off duty anywhere the rest of us can’t.

  4. So all I have to do is slip a gun into the politicians car or brief case then call the cops, and watch them get locked up for three years?

  5. Man decided his life was worth more than the job. Easy call. i’ve carried a gun on a couple of jobs because of the area and the hours. Never had a permit but i figured I would rather survive to face a judge than wind up murdered by some low life.

  6. On the topic of home security, Dan Coonan says, “Get a dog “.

As opposed to buying a firearm for home defense? Or in addition to and as part of an overall plan to protect your home and family?
Because it kinda sounds like he is telling readers that may be wanting to buy a firearm for self defense to not do so. Instead get a dog? Why? Because a firearm is dangerous? Or firearms are not good for home defense?

    Did I read this wrong?
I am sick of he BS from everyone who hates the Constitution. Why can’t people just tell the plain truth about what they want to do..?
Oh yeah, because the ones who want to trample over the rights of the American people would be found out. So it is always better to be a sleazy, elitist moron and lie to push agendas to screw the country.

  7. As a person of impeccable taste and unassailable character, who owns several 870s and is near Austin TX
I respond to the query with a hearty HELL NO!

  8. Has anyone noted that in the previous 14 days America’s Law Enforcement Professionals, dedicated to preserving law and order under the US Constitution have “suddenly” become dedicated to enforcing Obama’s edicts?

  9. Coonan’s stupidity is still on display on their main page and the top of the blog page at 20+ hours after Mr Dietz’s initial response.

I guess that means that old man Coonan is fine and dandy with the message conveyed.

  10. Careful what you ask for, I do have a couple 870’s you could use in Austin….. Too bad I’m in Austin, Indiana.

    Sounds like fun though.

BTW, Has anybody tested to see if a shotgun slug will set off the new tannerite that works with .22 lr? You ARE going to have some left over pig right?

  11. Dan,

I’m once again concerned about some of the websites you are visiting in the dark corners of the Internet to find such a photo.

  13. Yet NFL coaches have armed state police escorts on the field at all times. (Like they’re a target of interest?) Screw the National Felon League. Boycott them. The NFL is only interested in the $1 billion in assets it protects as a non-profit organization. (Yeah, they don’t pay taxes!) Complain to Commissioner Goodell, he’s making something like $29.5 million a year. Move along people, nothing to see here.

  14. Still, anyone remember the first cell phones? More to the point, anyone buy one?

Someone did. And enough someones to convince companies it was a good idea to continue to develop this newfangled cellular phone idea.

  15. So why all the gee whiz electronic gizmodification on a wimpy .223? Even .308 or ought-six aren’t really what I’d call long range calibers (and I’ve shot both at up to 1000 yards). Why don’t they have their initial offering include .300 Win Mag or .300 WSM or .300 Ultra Mag? Lame.

  16. I sold my ACOG on ebay a while back. They took down my ad twice. Once for showing it on an AR-15 (EVIL!) and the other for just having the letters AR in the ad. So I replaced it with scary black rifle.

They used to allow you to list any accessory that was CA legal. Then some moron bought a 10 round magazine on ebay and went on a shooting spree at VA Tech, and the ebay lawyers freaked.

  17. I usually have a machete in the truck for brushing/re brushing duck blinds– along with a Benelli 12 ga and a Glock 26. The machete is in sheath and the shotgun is in a case. The Glock is in a IWB.

  18. i’ve either personally shot, or seen deer shot with a huge range of calibers… 12 Ga. 3″ 00 Buckshot… .22-250, .243, 6.5X55, 270 win.. all the way up to an unlucky forked horn blacktail shot at about 25 yards with a .338-378… some times they drop… sometimes they don’t, i would personally advocate for a good premium bullet and good shot placement… i’ve seen 95lb does run 50 yards after taking a load of 18 00 buckshot pellets through both shoulders
