BREAKING: Ares Armor Raided by ATF

Dan Zimmerman - comments No comments

Despite being granted a restraining order, the ATF has apparently raided San Diego area firearms parts seller Ares Armor anyway. Ares sells 80% lowers which the ATF has classified as “firearms.” The ATF has been pressuring Ares to turn over their sales records or lose them in a raid. Given the threats, earlier this week Ares moved for and was granted a restraining order against such a raid. But the above YouTube video appears to show ATF agents rummaging through Ares, apparently confiscating inventory and, you’d have to assume, their computers and customers records. This video is the only evidence we’ve been able to find of a raid so far. Stay tuned. [h/t DrVino]

  1. I’ll take that bet about gun control trumping Obamacare. A lot of dems will probably stay home because of it, and that will be what wins the day for us IMO. Gun control is just the cold front that starts the lightning; make conservative friends who oppose Obamacare this year, take them to the range. Allies for life.

As for the BATFE. They put the Thug into Jack Booted Thug.

Instead of BATFE, The back of their black thug gear should have JBTE.

  6. If they did get the customer list, what can they do to the buyers? Wasn’t there an “issues” regarding the reverse manufacture of complete receivers into 80%ers? I believe there was also something about pre drilled pin and selector guide holes in the polymer editions that got ATF cranky as well. Loolks like a case of ” respect my au-tho-ei-ti” or else.

  10. I don’t see a copy of the restraining order. If it’s from his local court (again, I have no idea) I doubt it has any legal power to stop a federal agent from investigating a federal crime. In that case it’s worth less than the paper it is written on.

Overall– radio and even person-to-person communications go to pot, and you can’t assume the cops will think you’re the good guy. I think the only lesson I’m learning is that you shouldn’t get caught by responding officers with a firearm in hand– sash or no sash you’re more likely to get shot than not. H/t to the highroad.org

  12. Why spoil the beauty of a raid with a restraining order aka legality. Just like Gibson guitar factory raided by EPA thugs. Who will hold them to account? AG Eric Holder? Sorry I can’t type and LMAO at the same time!
They want the customer data, how dare civilians acquire what was legal last month, can’t be traced, and technically was sold legally.

I’d hope for some outrage in CA, but that would only happen if they hit a pot dispensary by mistake.

CALIFORNIA, you have more gun owners than most states have total population. When are you gonna wake the f**k up and take back what’s yours?

As well as any and all personnel handling seized property. This is now a case of Criminal Trespass, Theft Of Private Property and Identity Theft. Most likely Grand Theft

By all reading of DOJ statistics, crime is down.

Now what does that have to do with creating felons out of people who were previously honest people with guns?

    • Even if there was a clear, direct correlation, it would still take an amendment to the Constitution to make government’s actions even remotely resemble legitimacy. Crazy existed at the time the Constitution, too; yet here we are with shall not be infringed.

  21. It’s great to live in a gun friendly state. I had a blast today at the range. Did have to stop shooting for a bit though because the guy next to me pulled out his Barrett M107 semi-auto to shoot a few .50 rounds at 1000 yards and the blast from the comp could have blown my rifle off the bench! The muzzle blast shook the tin roof! Downrange the normal “puffs” of dirt smoke were more like explosions – COOL.

Today there were people shooting full auto, lots of WWII guns and really cool custom tactical .308 sniper guns, with folding stocks and all.

Again, great to live in a gun friendly state.

I would have interrupted him as soon as he offered to give me some “reality” with a raised middle finger and a shout of “F*** You!” the second he had the audacity to imply that I was not enlightened enough to speak about these things.

This man deserves no respect because he offers none.

To defeat gun grabbers we need to shock the sheep into seeing what is at stake, We learned this lesson the hard way. For those of us who have been fighting for gun rights for 20 years or more we learned that a solid offense beats any defense anyday.
We attack their “facts”(lies), we attack their careers, we attack anything they say. No attack is unjustified. They stepped up to the plate. They are open targets. Liberals tend to run and hide when it gets tough. That is how we win.

  28. JWM, unfortunately you are not seeing the big picture. Anti 2A forces are throwing mud against the wall, in key areas. And that mud is sticking. All they need is to get a stranglehold on the northeast, which they almost have (NY, CT, NJ, MA, MD) Then they can go state by state, picking them off as they choose till the red states won’t even matter. They could not get it at the Federal level, so they are damn sure gonna try at the state level. Our 2A rights across the states are only a patchwork, because they are not universal like they should be. So the “wins” we have are important, but are minor in comparision to the anti’s advances. Just look at the states that have lawful gun ownership or CCW. There are several that “have it”, yet make it extremely hard. Our victories take long amounts of time to be achived thru the legal system, but they can railroad thru legislation almost overnight. We must all be vigilant, because change for the worse can happen overnight.

    • So, knowledgeable folks supposedly “know” something about the .40 S&W round that the “uninformed” don’t? What might that be? Do you have anything to suggest that the .40 S&W round is a poor selection for a self-defense round?

There are good options for all handgun calibers; “knowledgeable folks” know that. They also know that handguns are by their very nature, compromises. As such, each caliber/platform configuration will have certain things going in its favor, and certain detractors.

For example, I carry a full size M&P40 loaded with Winchester Ranger 180gr bonded JHP. This happens to be a round that outperforms most commonly-procured .45ACP loads for both velocity (duh) and muzzle energy. Not to mention it holds more rounds than any .45 does (15+1). While it doesn’t hold as many rounds as a Glock 17 does, it absolutely outperforms the common 9mm loads.

So… What would the “knowledgeable folks” have to say about that? A platform that I shoot exceptionally well, paired with a load that ballistically outperforms both the .45 and 9mm at conceivable self-defense ranges, and comes in 2nd as far as capacity? My money says that the “knowledgeable folks” would concede that I’ve got a pretty solid setup, for a compromise.

My money is also telling me that you aren’t in that “knowledgeable folks” group.

  33. Another beautiful young sister of the gun! Terrific, more for our team! Good for her. She is taking responsibility for herself and her protection and not leaving it up to someone else. Here we go again with the caliber wars. Can we stop it already? The best gun and caliber is the one you like. Not what others tell you.

A bit of advice to the men folk who want their ladies to take an interest in shooting. LET THE LADY PICK HER OWN GUN AND YOU SHUT UP! If she wants a pink gun that you hate …. Shut up! Find a qualified FEMALE instructor and pay for the instruction and do NOT stay and watch. She will be intimidated by you. Tell her you are proud of her and can’t wait to go shooting together when she is ready. You will get a big kiss and wonder why you didn’t do that earlier. She will get “bitten” by the gun bug. Then you can buy all the guns and ammo you want without any complaints from her. Before you know it you’ll be buying her guns for Valentine’s Day and Birthdays etc. I know from experience.

  36. A citizen who intervenes in an active shooter situation in a public place must bear all of the above in mind PLUS he must accept the VERY HIGH probability that responding LEO will NOT WAIT to identify friend/foe/victim. They will shoot at the first thing they perceive as being a threat….and since you the
armed citizen will be armed YOU WILL BE THE THREAT. They shoot people for reaching for a cane.
They shoot people for holding a cell phone or Wii controller. THEY SHOOT PEOPLE WHO HAVE EMPTY HANDS IN THE AIR. Therefore you must assume they will blow your ass away the instant they see you. Plan accordingly.

Even at 500 yards, API’s still go through a 1 inch plate.
Getting to go long at 12 and 15 hundred yards gave us perma-grin.
.308 tracers ignite at about 250 yards and burn out at about 1,000.

They would be legit out of their minds to push for forced confiscation. I think most of them are hoping to kick this can past election and letting it die down quietly. I fear they’ll just let this be another unenforced law on the books that will be trotted out to harass people at times.

  44. This is a teachable moment for everyone. Events like this are target rich environments. People from out of town are not in their right frame of mind, since they’re here for a good time and subconsciously assume the entire world around them is on vacation. The regular rules of situational awareness no longer apply.

Then there’s the reasonable assumption that a given attendee of such an event would have had alcohol, making them also less vigilant than they might normally be.

If you’re local and alcohol free, hey that’s great, but the criminals don’t necessarily know that. They’re just playing the odds and you’re playing their game. It’s best to do your homework ahead of time and determine what the carry restrictions will be at the venue you’re attending. This is Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo season in Houston, which lasts for weeks, and we have many tourists from out of town visiting. Parking is available throughout the neighboring areas and some shuttles are available here and there. Still, many people end up walking from the venue back to their cars in all directions, down various thoroughfares and side streets. Criminal opportunities abound.

The smart attendee would have visited the event’s website or other appropriate source and determined whether licensed firearms were permitted and under what circumstances. In the case of the Rodeo, they are allowed, although the typical restrictions on carrying while intoxicated are still in effect. Texas is better than most states on concealed carrying, but there are still restrictions.

It’s up to individuals to take responsibility for themselves, know the rules up front, and not make assumptions that leaves them disarmed. You need to know the laws, too, not just what some venue states. For example, our local library had an illegal 30.06 sign posted. Public libraries, as such, are not statutorily designated gun free zones and political subdivisions (cities, counties, etc.) are pre-empted from regulating the carrying of firearms outside of very strict circumstances. This sign was illegally dissuading patrons from carrying by suggesting the library could legally ban firearms. So I contacted the County, outlined the problem, and they instructed the library to remove the sign. The library complied and that sign was down before lunchtime. It was actually a sign consisting of stenciled lettering, not just a single cardboard sign. So someone had to go scrape each illegal letter off by hand. Know your rights, people, and defend yourselves!
