WA Attorney General Blames Future Mass Shootings on GOP Legislators After Mag Cap Bills are Defeated

Bills that would have limited how many rounds can be stored in gun magazines and what guns can be sold did not pass in Olympia.

KING-TV reports neither bill was approved before Wednesday’s 5 p.m. deadline.

Lawmakers knew earlier this month the proposed ban on firearms defined as assault weapons did not have the votes to proceed.

The high-capacity limit bill passed out of House and Senate committees but never came up on the floor for debate.

Republicans opposed to the bill filed an unusually high number of amendments on the bill, meaning debate could last a day or more, according to Democratic staffers.

Aberdeen Republican Rep. Jim Walsh, who submitted six amendments, was asked if the long list of amendments was a political ploy to prevent debate.

“That’s part of it,” said Walsh. “But it’s also a very bad policy and we believe our amendments are essential to highlighting the problems.”

Attorney General Bob Ferguson said Republican legislators effectively filibustered the bill.

“That’s disappointing, given that statewide polling shows that nearly two-thirds of Washingtonians support limiting high-capacity magazines,” he said. “If there’s a mass shooting using a high-capacity magazine in one of our schools or communities, these legislators will be accountable to the victims and their families.”

No, you stupid F*ck, criminals would be to blamed future mass shootings, not inanimate objects

    1. avatar Geoff "I'm getting too old for this shit" PR says:

No, they will not, and the press out there will see to it making the Republicans accountable with how they intend to cover those stories.

If we win big with the SCOTUS concerning gun rights, the Leftists battle cry will be molding public opinion to meet their political agenda. They aren’t playing on that…

  4. avatar American Patriot says:

So by the same logic sanctuary cities proclaimed by the libtards should be held accountable to any American citizen killed by an illegal.

    1. avatar Cubbie says:

It’s really not the same logic, though. WA Republicans shouldn’t be held accountable for preventing the passing of laws that would curtail the rights of law-abiding citizens, while doing little to nothing to prevent mass shootings. Whereas liberals in sanctuary cities are actively subverting the law and allowing illegal alien criminals to be released onto the streets, making them complicit in and accountable for further crimes committed by such criminals.

    2. avatar Hush says:

And they(government) should be held accountable for those hurt or killed in “gun free zones”!

      1. avatar I Haz A Question says:

Lol, some of us TTAG’ers went a few rounds in the ring over this topic earlier this week. Some of us feel one way, some feel another. Here’s where the thread started:

    No one credible believes polls.

Actually, if anyone is going to be held accountable, its those who attacked and degraded our moral foundations and principles over the years that keeps society from tearing itself apart.

Policy is not a replacement for public relations and community cohesion. If they’re serious about public safety, they would change their angle and stop trying to implement failed, do-nothing measures.

  7. avatar Chief Censor says:

If a cop unjustifiably shoots a WA resident it’s the fault of the WA AG for him getting away with murder/manslaughter.

At least that statement is closer to the truth than his statement.

I bet he doesn’t agree that gun violence done by the government is the same as gun violence done by another criminal.

    1. avatar You have officially been branded a shill says:

Chief censor you are a shill. You are here in every single thread all day long with unlimited time to comment constantly. No regular person had this much free time on their hands without being paid. You are a shill. In fact, if you are not a shill, that’s even more pathetic, because it means you literally have no life outside of trolling and being called a shill. So go shill elsewhere.

      1. avatar Chief Censor says:

Yet here you are reading everything I post so you can respond to it with nonsense.

I get bursts of time to inform myself of current events and post. I had surgery day before yesterday, thus scheduled free time for healing.

When I have a few minutes I like to use a cellphone to read articles. If I don’t have to type much I can post from the phone. Longer posts are easier to do on a computer.

The average person has a few minutes here and there to do something.

Instead being like others whom watch adult videos, play video games, mess around on social media, watch shitty videos online, I read and watch content that informs me of the current political social engineering consumed by Americans. I don’t waste time watching American TV and movies.

I use NewPipe to listen to the audio of Youtube videos at 2-2.75x speed so I can quickly consume content while doing other things. I rather listen to many different sources from YouTube than listen to music.

That’s exactly what a paid shill would say in his denial of the charge. 😂😂😂

  8. avatar Higgs says:

Correct me if I am wrong… but this “Law” would have had no effect on the naval shipyard attack which was done with a shotgun, nor the Stoneman Douglas shooting because he used 10 round magazines. Nor the mass knife attacks, Nor any other attack since the criminals would just ignore it.

Never mind. Thinking logically never helps to explain the antis positions.

  9. avatar FormerParatrooper says:

Yep, the high (standard) capacity magazine will load itself, find a weapon and lock and load itself, and hang out somewhere waiting for a unsuspecting person to come by and jump into their hands and the magazine will manipulate the trigger firing into a crowd of disarmed people.

    That’s what happens, right Bobbie?

It’s not over yet. Those SOBs got a title-only (ghost) bill in, same text as the mag ban, but with a buyback provision. Bills that impact the state budget have until March to pass. Absolutely disgusting, but it’s a clever move.

    Call/write your reps. Keep pushing…

    1. avatar Mike H in WA says:

To be fair… so was the handful of Republican reps filing nearly *90* amendments to HB2240 at the last minute to stall it from being heard on the floor also a clever move.

But yeah, it just doesn’t end. Something tells me this also won’t be heard, though. Too much other stuff they need to wade through before the session ends. And HB2947 hasn’t even been heard in committee yet. Here’s to hoping those same reps are able to file those same amendments (seriously, some of them were straight up trolling) again.

“statewide polling shows that nearly two-thirds of Washingtonians support limiting high-capacity magazines”

Statewide polls also show that Washingtonians believe in Bigfoot. Never underestimate the stupidity of the average American.

    1. avatar Squiggy81 says:

I’d like to see a map of that statewide support. I’m guessing it’s more like Seattle support. Can’t hardly throw a rock without hitting a snowflake over there.

  16. avatar Chris T in KY says:

Does anybody know how many criminals suspects have their charges downgraded? From violent crimes to misdemeanors by district attorneys in Washington State?

I already know this is a problem in the state of Illinois. And I don’t expect the press in a Washington state to ask these kinds of questions.

  17. avatar klaus Von Schmitto says:

This tells me that the stupid, lazy, liberal sponsors didn’t care enough to work 1 extra day to fulfill what hey saw all year long as their civil duty to protect their constituents from these horrible, assaulty, murder-death-kill machines.

    What a crack-up these POS’s are.

And? It doesn’t matter how many people support stripping people of their rights, it’s still wrong to strip people of their rights. What’s so hard about this?

    1. avatar MLee says:

Two thirds because they polled the population saturated west side which has Seattle. Polls are SHIT.
The Demonrats have introduced a new bill already HB-2947 which has a buy-back provision. This way it is handled as an appropriations bill with different rules. They’re at it again!!!

Gun grabbing demo-rats: they blame and target law abiding gun owners, now they want to “pre-blame” Republicans. How come they never blame and target criminals? Oh, it doesn’t fit their soft on crime, prison reform, open borders, decriminalizing drugs and drug offenses, Sanctuary City protections for know criminal aliens!

  30. avatar Nww says:

An attorney general blames inanimate objects and a political party for future crimes. Proof that leftists have the mentality of small children. Apparently he wasnt taught that people are responsible for their actions.

If firearms were limted to 10 shots gun grabbers would then try to limit us to 5 or 6 shots. Then evil assault revolvers would be next to go. Then we’ll be limited to two shot double barrels till someone commits a crime. Then they’ll demand a ban on anything but flintlock blackpowder muskets since thats the only thing our forefathers really meant to have protected. They want everything gone. Leftists fit in one of two categories, they are either power hungry or have a phobia of weapons that they demand society coddle and cater to.

  33. avatar SAMUEL L. LYNN says:

This Bill was reintroduced with a “Buy Back” provision and was no titled. Because it now has an appropriations component it does not follow the Bills previous approval path and is still in play. We actually may lose this one. No celebration here.

  34. avatar Dustin says:

If washington state wants gun laws to stop we need to stop voting in gun grabbing people that purpose laws that do no good . The purposed gun laws won’t stop gun crime . United states has more registered guns than people living in it . Look at how much crime is in gun free zones Chicago being a big one . Idaho is 6 miles from my house. You can go to idaho and conceal carry with out permit. Last I checked idaho has very low gun crimes. The left wing call us radical Republicans but last time I also checked us so called radical Republicans are just trying to protect our rights as american citizens a rite that was given to us many many many years ago . Something else I was also realized it’s not us doing the mass shootings it’s not us doing crimes were not felons. Last I checked most of the crime is in big left wing cities most of theses gun crimes are coming from left wing nuts jobs that have mental health problems . You dont hear about to many gun owning responsible Republicans and some Democrats going in to schools and shooting them up . Doing drive by shootings, or shooting someone because of a temper problem fighting over a poker game. The purposed gun laws are doing nothing less but splitting this country apart.
