On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a raft of gun control proposals, narrowly passing them all, mostly along party lines. Anyone with any knowledge of the U.S. political system knows that these bills will be effectively dead on arrival in the Senate, and have just about zero chance of becoming law. Well, most of them.

While the reasons for passing these bills are complex, the main motivation is that Democrats, who narrowly control the House, want something they can take home and use in a re-election fight this year. So, if you think about it, the whole thing was an exercise on virtue signaling meant to gather support from people who largely already agree with these policies. None of this was meant to make any real impact on “gun violence.”

Another thing Wednesday’s votes did was expose what the Democrat coalition really is. The Democrat party ostensibly stands for the social rights of women, racial minorities, the LGBT community, and other groups who historically didn’t get a fair shake. They like to tell us that they stand against things that would be harmful to those groups, and expect their votes in return. They want us to think that they’re utterly opposed to government policies and law enforcement actions that disproportionately affect marginalized groups.

But gun control doesn’t fit that narrative. We don’t have to go all the way back to Jim Crow (the origin of most U.S. gun laws) to show that gun control hurts the very people Democrats claim they stand for. We can start with modern laws that are portrayed as “fair” on the surface. Take, for instance, the NICS background check system . . .

As Rep. Massie points out, black people are three times more likely to get a false denial from the NICS system. Hispanics are twice as likely.

People with time and money can appeal these false denials that kept them from purchasing a gun, but many others who know they have no disqualifying history — but lack the time and the means to fight the denial — either give up or buy a gun privately. Outlawing private sales would cement this racial disparity and make it legally unavoidable.

Want another example of gun control disparate impact in action? Look at “may issue” concealed carry permitting. Bribery and other corruption scandals show us that only the wealthy and well-connected can get a permit in states like New York and California. Decide to carry anyway? Minorities are far more likely to get caught up in unconstitutional “stop and frisk” searches. While white liberals might be able to get a permit, others get the shaft.

Beyond government discrimination, there’s also the issue of safety. A big city-living straight white liberal (that’s most of the party) probably feels safe in their home and at work, but they don’t know what it’s like to be part of any of the marginalized groups they claim to care about and support.

They don’t know what it’s like to live in a poor part of Chicago or Baltimore, and they don’t know what it’s like to be part of the LGBT community in a time when their rights are under attack. When it gets too ugly, they can safely retreat to their ivory tower.

Like the kids in Uvalde who had to wait over an hour for BORTAC team to basically countermand the cowardly police chief on the scene, the people Democrats claim to stand for are on their own.

The police in big Democrat-run cities often mistreat marginalized groups, so they feel they can’t call on them. But, when they need to defend themselves, Democrats are there to make sure an 18-year-old transgender woman can’t access a decent firearm, or that a Hispanic man has double the chance of not being able to get a gun despite a clean record.

While rich white liberals live in secure buildings or gated communities complete with armed guards and other security measures, those who don’t have the benefit of hired guns get to take their chances with pepper spray (assuming that isn’t outlawed, too, some day).

Yesterday’s exercise in Congressional liberal virtue signaling might help a few Democrats keep their seats in the House and Senate, but the rest of us know that all they’ve really done is tip their hand. Again. They need us on election day, but they won’t be there for any of us when we really need them.

    • You guys need to start planning for the mandatory buybacks. Which you should do, because if you don’t hate guns while standing right alongside me, you want small children to die, and you are a racist. When are you going to support “doing something” instead of standing around with an oscillating fist centered at your midsection while offering thoughts and prayers? And by doing something, I mean getting emotional, really emotional, and vote while enraged, based on emotions, and ban guns. Because is the cost of your useless “hobby” high enough yet? Or do more children have to die? Look at this bloody shirt, and look at this baby. This is your fault, unless you vote “correctly” by supporting democracy. Voting “correctly” supports democracy. Mkay? Support democracy, children, and racial equality today.

      • Sure I will give up my guns to save the children, just as soon as the Democrats stop murdering babies.

      • Guess how many children, or other people need to die, before I give up my rights? All. Of. Them. I am not responsible for the acts of evil people, nor are my rights forfeit because of those acts.

  1. The set of bills are called the “Protect Our Children Act”…this virtue-signalling and hypocrisy is sponsored by the same people (Democrats) who believe in dismembering “inconvenient” children in the womb, vacuuming the remains out and then selling the “tissues and parts” for research.

Lying female canines all of them! It is ALL about them consolidating their power over the people and sheeple of the United States…by any means or lies that will accomplish their Agenda.

    • Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!

Many (most?) politicians are dedicated to consolidating their wealth and power by any means necessary as Old Guy in Montana said above. The masses would be wise to recognize this fact at the earliest possible opportunity. Ignore this fact at your own peril.

  2. Let’s stop using the race card. It is ridiculous. I’m Hispanic and most of us are white. You van opt to write Democrats instead. Let’s grow up just a bit TTAG. Race, gender, ethnicity all different things used to classify. We all here know who the enemy is.

    • Who is the enemy, exactly?

In one sense, I think it is the global oligarchy. Not the top 1% of the wealthy, but just a few hundred of the richest people in the world, the .0001%. Then, you have their stooges, running business, banking, government, media, religion,
      and education.

Im a deeper sense, I think it is Satan, and his stooges, including the few hundred richest people in the world, and their employees in business, banking, government,.media, religion, and education.

In either case, the evil members of Congress are stooges of someone higher up paying them to dance.

    • The article was nonstop identity politics. It detracted from what I believe was the point.

      • The point was to show that they really don’t care about the identity politics. They care about power.

        • You’re certainly right about that. I think more people are wising up to it. The attraction people have for identity politics is more about getting cover to be a bully and feeling righteous than being protected. If we have equality, then people don’t have to fret over identities.

  3. Let’s not praise BORTAC until they are prevented from violating our fourth amendment rights. Remember: 80% of Americans live in the region they can enter a house without a warrant as SCOTUS ruled yesterday (6/08/2022).

This looks to be mostly dead in the Senate which is a good thing as in it’s current text we can’t clean our guns without having an FFL.

“The term `manufacturing firearms’ shall include assembling a
functional firearm or molding, machining, or 3D printing a
frame or receiver, and shall not include making or fitting
special barrels, stocks, or trigger mechanisms to firearms.”;”

That makes all of us a manufacturer when we clean them things…

  4. To repeat myself, again, more….

What’s the point of having power if you can’t take advantage of it?

The poor, disadvantaged, minority, non-privileged can simply elect representatives from among their own demographics. On the other hand, liberal, leftist, authoritarian, white people know better what is good for the poor, disadvantaged, minority, non-privileged.

  5. Nothing the left does is supposed to solve or fix anything. That’s not the point. The point is control. In the case of guns, they are gradually, perpetually, trying to disarm America. That’s all they care about. What happens in the interim is of no consequence to them. And millions of their stupid followers think they have the moral high ground here.

    • How about the televised Jan. 6 hearings tonight on all of the major networks? Will we also soon see televised hearings coming up on the economy in the shitter, gas prices, mental condition of King Dribblecup, reimbursement of unlimited trillions going to our latest proxy war, total fuckup in Uvalde, whats on Hunter’s laptop, etc.? Gee, something tells me quite simply “No “

      • I agree with Colonel Travis.

        Pb_fan59,
There’s no need for that. Everyone knows that’s Trump’s, I mean Putin’s fault. The Puppet said there was nothing he could do. Apparently, Putin is in control of our country.

  6. So what else is new with Democrats? They don’t do very much of significance for Black communities in particular and these people do suffer if they live in a gang and drug invested area. They deserve the right to pack a firearm legally. See Lacretia Hughs (black woman) testify before a Congressional Committee on gun control. She is terrific and says everything that needs to be said about their gun laws that do not work.

  7. I tuned in to see what miner had for a response, but when I saw he hadn’t, I had to check out what today is that would be occupying all of his time… turns out it’s National Sex Day ( I shit you not) so we can only presume that he, and probably the also missing dacian , are fervently celebrating. Alone. Probably in front of a moniter of some sort.

    • Must be the hour for MinorIQ, dacian the stupid, our nameless, brainless, d***less troll, and jsled to have their daily circle jerk . . . that, like all Leftist/fascist enterprises, produces no results. But they don’t only do it on “National Sex Day”, they do it on the daily. Hey, it’s all they’ve got; none of them will ever know the touch of a woman.

    • Actually I was busy getting the jiffy pop ready.
Just finished a couple hours of must-see TV, you may have missed it as Fox entertainment did not cover the hearings.

        • MinorIQ never met Leftist/fascist partisan propaganda he didn’t love. He secretly yearns to be reincarnated as Josef Goebbels, or perhaps Leni Riefenstahl. When he isn’t pining to be Lavrenti Beria.

      • I watched the hearings too, and it was mostly circle jerk action, and I was completely satisfied. And I mean completely!

        • I wouldn’t know.

Not only am I a far right extremist terrorist, but now days I am also an incel and the only thing that gets me off is guns.

I believe this is called: owning it? I dunno, I’m too emotionally hurt to fight anymore. The internet has labeled me correctly too many times… I just want to be loved by the people that would throw a Molotov at me for having a different opinion.

      • ” a couple hours of must-see TV”. Jeebus, MajorStupidity, that’s lame, even for you!!! Go back to telling us how Article I, Section 8 authorizes universal federal gun control – even THAT is slightly less stupid than pretending your vaunted, Hollywood-produced “January 6 hearings” were anything but a complete disaster. Even the Leftist/fascist “news” site, Deadline, said so, MinorIQ, you ignorant slut:

        https://deadline.com/2022/06/donald-trump-january-6-primetime-hearing-review-liz-cheney-fox-news-1235041679/

MinorIQ, if you weren’t a complete, total, soi-swilling, partisan douchebag, you’d have no personality at all, would you??? Sod off, swampy.

  8. “…and they don’t know what it’s like to be part of the LGBT community in a time when their rights are under attack”

Serious question here. What’s an “LGBT” right, and how is it any different from a non-“LGBT” right?

  9. One of the earliest Anti-civil rights LGBTQxyz politicians was Tom Ammiano. A proud gay men with no children. Who got himself elected to the San Francisco School Board in the early 1970s. With the stated specific purpose of stopping Second Amendment education in the schools. And terminating the rifle competition.

The Black Panthers reach had spread into San Francisco. And Ammiano didn’t want black public school children learning about guns. So all the kids lost out on getting a second amendment education.

Using his leadership position in the gay community. He would later go on to ban the open carrying of guns at gay pride parades. The 1966 Mulford Act only made it illegal to open carry a loaded long gun. I saw white people openly carrying rifles and shotguns in the 1970s and 1980s as a kid. Some of them were members of the Jewish Defense League. And they carried loaded Tommy guns. They were never arrested for just openly carrying a gun.

And as an elected member to the California legislature he would write the law making women who were rape and stalking victims, and everyone else, wait an extra 10 days to get a gun.

As California state senate president. Tom Ammiano said he liked the Mulford Act and would never support to repeal it.

    • As a lesbian, I’d like to let you know we don’t all support such nonsense. Gun rights are for everyone.

      • If one is a member of any of the segments of the population you mentioned and they cast their ballot for Democrats they have willingly forfeited their right to own a firearm as they have proven they are irresponsible by the way they vote. I say “Screw ’em” they and their “communities” have made their bed let ’em sleep in it.

      • to Jennifer Sensiba

This is not the first time I have said this on TTAG. The first white person I ever saw on television say that everybody should have a gun. Was the assassinated San Francisco city council member Harvey Milk.

And the first white person I saw say that black people should own guns was a member of The Log Cabin Republicans. He said that on National Television. Being that the Log Cabin Republicans actually believed in Liberty, and the consequences and responsibilities that go along with it. They had rocks and glass bottles thrown at them when they marched in gay pride parades.

Because most gay people don’t believe in the responsibilities and consequences that go along with Liberty. Most of them are s-o-c-i-a-l-i-s-t-s Pr0- gres-sive in their political orientation. And they demand having “free stuff” from the government.

        Btw
        In other news.

Marjorie Taylor Greene. The much hated by the Libertarians Liberals of the Left, representative from Georgia. Has recently hired Milo Yiannopoulos to work for her as an intern. It is a great day to be a Republican. Another step in the right direction for this country.

      • The white liberals in San Francisco were given one last chance. When Justin Raimondo ran against Nancy Pelosi. He was an openly gay man who actually supported Liberty. He really did support the Bill of Rights. And he was an openly big supporter of the Second Amendment. He also was a campaign manager for Pat Buchanan when he ran for the presidency.

Buchanan won the New Hampshire primary. Everyone’s heads exploded. Pat Buchanan is not a racist. But most of his opponents are.
Unfortunately the majority of the sexually liberated voters wanted Nancy Pelosi’s and voted for her. A straight white woman.

Instead of an pro Liberty openly gay man.

    • “The 1966 Mulford Act only made it illegal to open carry a loaded long gun.”

Interesting claim, how unfortunate for you that it’s absolute bullshit.

Here’s the actual text from the California penal code:

      “25850.
      (a) A person is guilty of carrying a loaded firearm when the person carries a loaded firearm on the person or in a vehicle while in any public place or on any public street in an incorporated city or in any public place or on any public street in a prohibited area of unincorporated territory.”

      The penal code specifies firearm.

What’s that you say, it was in the original text of the Bill?

Nope. The Republicans’ intent was to ban the carrying of any firearm.

“181. See Act of July 28, 1967, ch. 960, 1967 Cal. Stat. 2459-63. The enacted bill stated in pertinent part:
SECTION 1. Section 12031 is added to the Penal Code, to read:
12031. (a) Except as provided in subdivision (b), every person who carries a loaded firearm on his person or in a vehicle while in any public place or on any public street in an incorporated city or in any public place or on any
public street in a prohibited area of unincorporated territory is guilty of a misdemeanor.”

The Republicans’ Bill also banned firearms in schools:

“SEC. 2. Section 171c is added to the Penal Code, to read:
17 1c. Any person, except a sheriff.., shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one year, or by fine of not more than one thousand dollars ($1000), or by both such fine and imprisonment, or by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than five years, if he does any of
      the following:
      1. Brings a loaded firearm into, or possesses a loaded firearm within the
      State Capitol ….
      2. Brings a loaded firearm upon, or possesses a loaded firearm upon, the
grounds of any public school, including the University of California and the state colleges …. “

“I saw white people openly carrying rifles and shotguns in the 1970s and 1980s as a kid… They were never arrested for just openly carrying a gun.”

No doubt, thanks for sharing your actual testimony verifying white privilege for gun owners.

      • You are stuck on stupid. We are talking about carrying unloaded guns. And it was perfectly legal to carry an unloaded gun and to carry the ammunition with you. Many people carried they’re unloaded sidearm on one side of their body. And on the other side of their body they would carry two or three loaded magazines. All perfectly legal in the state of California.

Until that portion of the law was done away with by the politically active proud gay power structure in the state of California. As well as the politically active drug legalization power structure in the state.

Schools were allowed to have armed teachers on campus as long as it was approved of by the local school boards. Unfortunately that was also done away with by the politically active proud gay power structure of the State of California.

I’m sure there are people that want to blame this on straight Christians. The fact of the matter is that the sexually liberated, and the drug legalization crowd, have controlled the state of California for many decades now.

And they are turning California into the utopia they have dreamed of. And Ronald Reagan has been dead for almost 20 years now. Stop believing that the ghost of Ronald Reagan is haunting you.

You can blame Christians for a lot of things if you want to. But still having gun control in the state of California is not one of them.

  10. I’ve often considered joining the blogging world because I enjoy reading them. I guess I’ve finally worked up the confidence to do it. Thank you very much for all of your suggestions.

  11. The United States seal had been turned so the eagles wings were pointing left.
Scary sht secret messages I say.

    • “The United States seal had been turned so the eagles wings were pointing left.
Scary sht secret messages I say.”

      Wings pointing left?

Brother, I need a sip out of your fruit jar, a wee drop o’the pure to achieve your exalted state of consciousness.

Every time I look at the Seal I see an eagle with wings outstretched, pointing both left and right.

But I must confess, us leftists controlled the Seal for hundreds of years. Democratic president Truman turned the Eagle’s head to the right in 1946 as a gesture of peace and reconciliation to the right wing Republicans.

“The problem is that the eagle on the Presidential seal had faced to the left continuously since at least the 1870s and possibly earlier. There was nothing unusual about this: many other official emblazonments of the national arms also had left-facing eagles, including the one on the seal of the Department of State. During the roughly 70 years in which the left-facing eagle appeared on the Presidential seal, the United States was at war less than seven years. Since the change was made in 1946, the eagle on the Presidential seal, as well as on the great seal and every other official representation of the arms used by the U.S. government, has constantly faced to the right, whether or not U.S. forces are engaged in conflict.”

  12. I grew up with firearms. My family all have firearms. I firmly believe in the 2nd Amendment. I served in the military was issued and used firearms. That being said. I have brothers who have firearms. They should not. They are idiots. They don’t even know what Coopers rules of gun safety are. And they don’t care. They have poor impulse control. Even going to family reunions makes me nervous because they like to pull them out and play show and tell. I won’t let one brother in my house after a negligent discharge. He didn’t even see it as a serious problem. What do we do about these guys?

    • Huntmaster, I don’t blame you a bit not letting your brother come in the house after he had a negligent discharge. He is dangerous. And he didn’t see a “problem” makes him more dangerous.

  13. For me, it was incredibly helpful. Continue to share thoughts like this in the future. Actually, this is what I was looking for, so I’m delighted I came here! Thank you for providing this information to us.
