Two Words for Condescending Cavett: Christopher Dorner

“Yes, Terry, it would take extremely skillful Bushmaster-wielders to hold out for long against that same evil government’s jet bombers, rocket grenades, tear gas, off-shore gunships, heavy-duty cannons and napalm,” Dick Cavett cavils condescendingly on the New York Times’ Doofenshmirtzian opinionator blog. “Not to mention drones. And, of course, its well-trained militia.” Translation: Foolish gun owner, surrender! Resistance is futile. While I’m sure ex-LAPD cop turned executioner Christoper Dorner is a leftist nutcase, his ability to avoid an army of cops and feds is yet another example of how a determined man with a gun is not an anachronism, even in these days of extra-judicial drone death. Oh and Dick: “More on Guns, With Readers”? See what they did there?

  1. I picked one of these up today at my local gun shop. They had them listed at $1850. Being military, and S&W being a huge proponent of servicemen, I got it for a steal. Cant wait for my quad rail to come in so i can mount my bipod and 6-18x44mm vortex scope.

  2. Not all SP2022 pistols have loaded chamber indicators. I bought a new one in 40 cal a few weeks ago and it does not have one. Also, the magazines for the 40s are the exact same (marked with both calibers) as the ones for the .357 sig. If your SP2022 does not have the loaded chamber indicator, you can convert it from 40 S&W to .357 sig by merely replacing the barrel only. It’s like having two pistols for the price of one and a barrel.

No thats why real red blooded americans are at a war (of words and grass action and progun Reps/Sens in power) against socialist scum like this man you dont blame law abiding americans for a act of a gang banger or psychopath you fight evil. Americans will never surrender to you a Nazi like Obama and his love boy Feinstine or any one. As Winston Churchill said WE will NEVER surrender. Our four fathers gave us this right and we ill always commit to it and never give in to scum like you. You can your Chicago and kaliforina politicians and demigods can take a mile swim in Lake Michigan in February now.

  5. I bought a Arsenal SLR-101S last November shortly before the school shooting in Conn. I paid $1100 for it at Cheaper Then Dirt. I’m very glad I got it when I did. I’ve shot about 500 rounds of mostly cheap ammo through it without a hiccup and I’m very happy with this rifle as my choice of AK for my collection. These days there are none of them left in stores and it’s doubtful we’ll see them imported and assembled again by Arsenal. If you want to purchase one on an auction site you’re likely to pay 2k or better for it.

  6. MEMO: To Dick Cavett (I don’t ‘do’ Facebook, so I could not post @ NYT)

What makes you think you can dictate how a war will be fought?

You don’t control that. Your enemy is the one who will decide that for you.

It won’t be like WWII with tanks, planes and artillery in pitched battle, or WWI trench warfare, or Revolutionary War massed troops marching onto a field to the sound of fife and drum, then firing in volleys on command.

Resistance to a domestic tyranny is more likely to take the form of “urban guerrilla” warfare.

Research Michael Collins and the “12 Apostles” to learn how the military power of Great Britain, after 700 years of “conventional warfare”, was finally defeated.

Any other thinking is way behind the times.

  7. When I was in the army we trained to beat an opponent holding a cocked 1911 on us. Because the opponent had to react after the fact the person held at gunpoint actually had an advantage. Of course this is a very risky maneuver and so I will not describe it here

    • That was taught to me in a self defense class by a Sheriff’s swat team trainer, it works very well and it is very easy to do. It has to do with how fingers work while holding a gun. The person will not be able to fire. Then again, it only works if there is just one attacker. The big problem is that you have to be at arms length from the attacker with nothing between you and the gun. It is a very special circumstance…

He went further to explain and show that you never extend your arms fully with a gun in hand in a close encounter, lest it will be taken from you. He stressed holding the gun with both hands close to your chest. Forget the sights.

If there is a gun in your face with no cover instantly nearby, be cool and hope for the best. Sad but true.

  8. When it comes down to it. It really doesn’t matter what black people think because most of us are in urban cities and those are gun-free zones for law-abiding citizens anyway. Therefore, the real power and threat for the government is white middle class America. So, as long as you guys don’t give up your guns there wont be a large scale disarmament in America. Personally I’m tagging along with you guys on this issue.

If you step up in my face im going to step back in yours regardless of who you are, what you do, and whatever piece you may carry(and by piece I mean gun), I am every bit your equal whether or not you have military training or carry a badge. This ofcourse only goes for corrupt pigs such as this and not a crazy burglar unless I have a gun myself. But still. That isnt a “Marine”. A real Marine wouldnt do what he did, he would do his best to try and defuse the situation and get it resolved rather than whack the guy upside the head and nearly strangle him. That my friends is a scum of society who deserves to be thrown in jail with the rest of the hoodlums in it.

The next generation would grow up learning how to avoid detection, keep off the tracking grid, and to practice the art of hit and run. A bad government knows I’m a gun owner, have a cc permit, and what searches I’ve done on the Internet and comments made.

Hey dumbass, we lost the Iraq and Afghan wars.

Lets go through some armaments typical of insurgents in those theaters of war,

    AK series
    G3
    PPS43 and PPSH41
    PKM
    SVD
    Romak 3
    Mosin Nagant series
    Mauser K98 series
    Enfield series
home made explosives (ammonium nitrate that they handed out to afghan farmers like candy; it came particularly handy alongside those small stoves ubiquitous throughout afghanistan)
    RPG7
    IEDs.
and the few, i mean few, Dshk 12.7mms and Strela MANPADS (ive only heard of ONE captured).

anything high tech that americans couldnt access? nope. in fact, guns in the hands of americans are far more accurate and effective.

    • “The US defeated the Iraq insurgency. There is no arguing that.”

Then why is Iraq currently involved in a low intensity civil war? why are there still killings and suicide bombings? why are Iranian-backed Sadr militias still maintaining a unparalleled level of political power?

these attributes I have mentioned are irrefutable facts. They are also not present in conflicts where counter-insurgency operations have been successful.

      try agian.

“What has happened is the Obama has effectively switched sides in the Middle East. The US may have abandoned Vietnam in 1972 but this case the Adminstration clearly has come out on the side of the Sunni extremists in the region.”

Oh spare me the Obama bashing bullshit about “switching sides”. Obama has done anything but “switch sides”. If this was the case, then why has he expanded military operations in afghanistan and the CIA-isms such as torture, drone use, and assassination? that is not even getting into the subject of strong arming whistleblowers calling him and his administration out on their pro-war bullshit….

“Iraq is holding firm despite the upsurge in violence by AQ in Iraq but if AQI manages to break down order the Shia majority will simply go out and massacre the Sunni population.”

Iraq is not “holding firm”. You even admitted that there is a upsurge in violence. Upsurges in violence do not equate to a government “holding firm”.

“I can’t argue victory or defeat in Afghanistan.”

Really!? I can. Others can too (you know, the commanders that actually have boots on the ground?) http://armedforcesjournal.com/2012/02/8904030

“It was clear by 2008 that we had accomplished all that we were capable of and should have withdrawn and concentrated on getting a SOFA in place in Iraq to sustain the win. However we have an adminstration that is so steeped Third World and Islamicist romanticsim that this policy was never pursued.”

LOL give me a break. you cannot honestly muster up that bullshit as fact.

We were capable of so much more, such as integrating our forces into strategic locations versus isolating them in FOBs. Im not the only one that talks about this. Look at the works of John Poole.

but why stick to the facts when you can take a cheap shot at Obama?

  14. I completely understand why James feels the way he does. Especially being that he has a business on the line if this thing goes through. A business that is making money against the odds of our shitty economy. This is not only infringing on second amendment rights but also preventing the man from making a living. I am from the same neighborhood and I have always admired the man. All of that being said, that video really is embarrassing for all of us. It is playing right into the hands of the Gun grabbers, portraying gun us to be aggressive and violent and spoiling for a fight. Things like that just make it all the easier to label us as right wing extremist and potential terrorist. With that in mind I must agree that if this becomes a full on door too door witch hunt, there is no one Id rather have on my side than James. With the amount of equipment and ammo that DHS is stockpiling one does really have to question their motives. We need everyone we can get to stand up and speak out– if we don’t get the numbers and get the folks up and off their couches we are going to get this crap rammed down our throat and it will only get more restrictive and draconian. People do need to acknowledge that this isn’t a right or left issue anymore – that just alienates people that would otherwise be allies. This is a state vs the people issue. Working with our friends and law enforcement and military is going to be of massive importance to fight this thing off. We have to put the pedal to the floor and keep it there- no slacking off because they are talking about how it will be an uphill battle for the gun grabbers. It is already swinging too far in their favor – -there is no slack for us.

  15. Funny how Christopher Dorner passed his police psychological exams, proving how useless these MMPI’s and other psychological tests for cops are. Some of the most sane and honest people are the ones who flunk them, yet the sociopaths like Dorner pass, and then, well, we see how that ends up.

I really tired of spending my money just to have the big guys drop the ball. Oh, well, we lost Colorado, let’s go to Texas. What happens when we lose Texas? There is a big push to make Texas purple. If Texas is purple, we’re done politically. Magpul, step up, you have the cash. Fund the right people, come on. Auction the VW bus off to make this happen.

  17. “This is not a phenomenon limited to the United States, as Dr. Lott points out here, mass casualty shootings have occurred in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Australia, all in locations where guns were “banned”.

This is nonsense! the shootings in the UK have only occurred twice in the last 100 years and by people who already had a gun license for shooting clay pigges but went off their trolleys for some reason, the last one was a cabby who had a gripe with another cabby and after shooting him tried his best not to be shot by the police.
The dunblane killing of infants in Britain is the closest to the latest outrage in America and as stated was another legal duck shooter in his forties , so this does rather imply , does it not , that if these people had not been allowed access to guns the incidents would have been no more than a dust up with the local bobbies?

The gun lobby argument t along with its outdated 2nd amendment backing is as crazy as MAD ( Mutually assured destruction) in Nuclear weapons and is founded on the premise that the bad guys are always going to get the guns so the good guys should have easy access to them as well.
How can anybody with a brain think this idiocy holds water , of course what it really means is that it is the only solution in which all the gun shop owners get to stay in business selling their crap to both sides .

I have heard one of these morons on the news in which he was ramping on about King George and that the Brits would have won if we had not all been armed , further he said the English were /have been , over the years indoctrinated into the belief that only the state should have guns and by this that all Brits are living in slavery .
Wow, this guy is a master of History forgetting that all the colonists were BRITS at the time and most were not armed and did not take up arms until the revolution was seriously underway.
As for British/English being slaves etc. well that’s for another discussion preferably after Britain secedes from the EU , let’s just say that murder in the UK is 100 times less over the whole nation than in Chicago alone .

Anyway Having studied America for many years in its British American and United States Versions, I see little that will change until one day the whole senate both republican and democrat have all their kids undergo the same experience with the same tragic results

Beyond the act of shooting, he has a genuine interest in the safe use of and respect for firearms. Certainly not your typical Southern California kid, I’m glad to say. By the way, his mother is also a strong proponent of the 2nd amendment now too!

  26. Get this idea to go viral…Get with your friends and family, co workers etc and request that all the firearms manufacturers, ammunition companies, gun shops both large and small to STOP selling any GUNS, AMMUNITION, or Gun ACCESSORIES to any STATE or LOCAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES that reside in states that have trampled the citizens 2nd Amendment rights! When the cops, sheriffs, national guards etc run out of Guns and Ammo due to unconstitutional laws what will they do? In the meantime ANY sale of lawful items will continue to the citizens of those states affected as eventually due to the boycott of sales to their states LEO agencies they will have to protect themselves. Cops do not go to a fight without a gun and without ammo it is nothing more than a brick. Hell, think about it…cops don’t carry guns to protect you; they carry them to protect themselves. Average response times to a 911 call can take up to seven minutes; imagine what a criminal can do to you, your spouse, children, mother, father in seven minutes…frightening huh. By the time the cops show up, it’s too late. Wake up America and rise up to protect your rights…ALL OF THEM!

Ruger’s an old man brand, no reason to give them a chance in category already chock full A+ performers. They should stick making rifles. Their .22 takedown is a nice plinker and their scout rifle is pretty nice.

  28. If this was implemented I wouldn’t buy insurance, would you? I have had car insurance since I owned my first car at the age of 16. In all my years of driving I have only been in 1 accident. It was not my fault and the person that hit me didn’t speak English or have insurance, surprise surprise! Nothing happen to her except a small ticket for the traffic violation. I had to either claim it on my uninsured motorist, or pay for the damages myself. The car was pretty old at this point so I just left it wrecked. Illegals get away wit this all the time, hell some people don’t even want us to say the word illegal alien. So why should I comply with a stupid law that says I have to buy insurance to exercise a guaranteed right?

    Reply
  29. The inner city poor are more likely to opt for an illegal gun, or simply buy the insurance to get the gun and let it run out. The state would then have to require insurance companies to report when they or their clients cancel the insurance. Then I would assume the state would send a notice to the firearms owner that they have 30 days to get insurance or turn over their gun. The gun owner could then claim he sold the weapon which is why he let the insurance run out. Now the state needs to register all guns. Since the owner now owns an illegal gun he’s not about to report it to the authorities when it’s stolen.

Then there’s the issue of what an insurance company is expected to pay for. If your neighbor’s kid gets a hold of your firearm and accidentally shoots himself in the foot it would make sense that your firearm insurance would pay for his medical bills, pain and suffering, etc. To my knowledge though, no auto insurance company will pay for damages incurred by your car if it was stolen and the damages were incurred during the commission of a felony, so I doubt the insurance industry would want to pay for the same with a firearm. In fact I doubt any insurance company would pay for any willful misuse of a firearm, in which case the insurance would be rather cheap.

BTW, the Democrats have always been racists.

  30. Rabbi-
Well done! It’s always a good idea to have someone else proofread for you (first-hand knowledge here), and maybe using “frustration” instead of “anger” would lessen its harshness.
I think there is a lot of good info in your guide, though much of it seems directed at LE (like myself). I don’t carry to go surfing, or when I’m having some drinks with the guys. When I do carry, I don’t bring a back-up or extra mags. I know some friends who do, but in my opinion that is excessive. I am tactically-trained, and will hopefully know how best to respond and when.
You wrote about Hiding, Understanding the situation, and keeping your weapon holstered until contacting threats (for non-uniformed people). I think the LE position generally would be to have your weapon in your hands at all times, until the situation is resolved. If I’m off-duty, I know that I wouldn’t be readily identifiable even by my own co-workers! It would depend on some factors, but I would probably only confront the threat in front of me and not go searching for bad guys. Not only would you be at risk from the shooters and responding LEO’s, but you just might run into another CCW with the same idea!
Overall, a very good effort here though! I would suggest adding more links (for example; to tactical medicine sites, etc.)
I REALLY liked your “gun facts” conclusion. I hadn’t heard some of those stats and, if true, they are a compelling argument against gun control!
Thanks for sharing it with us; I’ll pass it on.

  31. I’ve read several papers that argue that the sharpest division in the U.S. now isn’t party, race, socio-economics, or age, it’s Urban vs. Rural. There are stark differences between the experiences and subsequent mindsets of these two groups, and it becomes apparent in many different forum (politics, entertainment, religion, etc.).
