That’s TTAG Armed Intelligentsia member and Boynton Beach, Florida Dentist Dr. Michael Barr, featured heavily in this promo for CNBC’s exposé, America’s Gun: The Rise of the AR-15, which they’ll air beginning tonight. In fact, we’ll be running live commentary during the broadcast tonight at 10:00pm eastern. So grab a cold frosty, turn on the tube and log in to join the conversation. Right here.

  1. Easy prediction: CNBC paints the AR15 as used for target shooting and occasionally mass murder, asking about the latter over and over, and ignore anything related to the RKBA.

    I hope TTAG gets a shout-out somehow 🙂

Also, if you watched the video: please let the 2A tattoo be sharpie. Please. Ugh.

  2. How about “Rifle” instead of the thugish “Gun”?
as for America’s Rifle it shoud have been the M-1 Garand (Obama blocked the Re-import of 100,000 M-1’s from South Korea (and now I know why)
Sans Garand’s Great Contribution to Western Liberty the title falls upon the AR series, though the Mini runs a close second!

  3. the fact that this “expose” even exists is a sad commentary on our current state of affairs. You can just tell that the producers in New York who thought this up have never shot a gun. They’re doing a special on the most popular rifle in America because they have no clue about it or any other firearm as if they’re covering breaking news.

  4. Oh dang that means I have to watch “GULP” CNBC?? Ok DAN only because you want us too!

  5. Let’s start a pool: How many minutes into the program will it be before an M16 is shown firing full auto?

    I say 5.

      • Ha, I called it. The opening sequence of the show included a 1-2 second clip of an M-16 on full auto…

  6. The mischaracterization begins already just with the video still shot, with the blood-red background, psychology proven to induce anger and fear while being symbolic of evil.

I’m surprised you’d agree with this. It’s going to be pure leftist propaganda, they’ll never let you stay on the topic of truth for very long, lest their skin melt and they be sent hissing into their caves.

  7. Remember CNBC’s “Remington Under Fire” investigation? Yeah, I’m guessing this will be more of the same.

  8. So far a bit of a hack job. Although stats wise it seems pretty solid. the doctor couldn’t tell a 9mm to a 223 round injury. She is pretty dumb.
To the male doctor, how about the hollow point 357? That would do even more damage. Trotting out the dead and wounded is more bloody T-Shirt waving..

  9. I want that picture of lady liberty with an AR on a red shirt exactly like in the frame above. How can we do it?

  10. I understand that people ARE using AR15s for Hunting, Target Shooting, and 3 Gun Type Events.

What about the reason we REALLY have, incase shit gets real? Are we so brow beaten that we can’t even talk about the intent of the 2nd Amendment anymore?

  11. Best part of the show, gun dealer shows a SOCOM II .308 next to a AR15 and says the AR would be banned for being more dangerous under the failed proposed AWB.

AR15 popularity is a recent phenom, last 10 years or so, in the 80s=90s ARs were somewhat rare and not that popular, with just a few companies like Colt, Hesse and Bushmaster making them. Back then cheap AKs were the thing, when 1000 rds of 7.62×39 was 99 bucks and a MAK was 300.

AR is a much improved platform but still pales to the AK in terms of ballistic punch and reliability. As far as accuracy the Saiga AKs have dispelled that myth with quality barrels and fit and finish. And AKs have mostly fallen under the radar in the latest tumult that the AR is getting the heat for.

Its a case study how the media gloms onto an issue and controls the narrative, with no history or context.

  12. Anyone out there with computer skills… PLEASE record this and put it out on the torrent network for download! I can’t find any streaming versions nor downloadable versions and that’s quite shocking that it’s been out for 10 hours now and it hasn’t hit the feed.

  13. I’m still bemused by the fact of a 5.56mm weapon being regarded as the the sine qua non of the rifle world. Sure, it does well in massacres of defenseless children, but as a battle rifle trying to stop large enemy combatants hopped up on Allah and khat?

We don’t use that calibre for hunting our animals in New Zealand, because the round is too small, and too many wounded deer just run away and hide in the thick bush. We use 7mm to 30 calibre mainly. If you want goats or wallabies, fine, use 5.56mm.
But seriously? As a defensive weapon against grown men?

    • Which is why it really needs a 30 round mag.

Even in the US, it’s banned for hunting anything of any consequence in most states. Despite the emotional investment of the accolytes, it is a lightweight round and the firearm in question is a horrible design.

Sorta like a 1911, though they have a ‘better’ chambering in .45 ACP, without a ton of gunsmithing 1911s malfunction on a regular basis for those who have actually seen more than a few hundred rounds down the pipe in a day. And who see a FTE or FTF as a malfunction.
