Blogger Bob at the TSA Blog has a rundown of all the firearms confiscated from TSA checkpoints this past week. Thankfully I didn’t make the list, and I’ll have a full report on my experiences tomorrow morning. Just FYI, it’s perfectly legal to travel with your firearm on a plane, it just needs to be unloaded and declared in your checked baggage. Check with your carrier before attempting, though, as some have some crazy restrictions. Anyway, make the jump for the list.

Officers found 21 loaded firearms since last Friday (not counting the unloaded and replica firearms found).

  • 10-7: TSA Officer at IAH detects a loaded 9mm pistol with a round in the chamber.
  • 10-7: TSA Officer at LBB detects a loaded .380 pistol.
  • 10-7: TSA Officer at SAT detects a loaded .380 pistol with a round in the chamber.
  • 10-8 TSA Officer at MOB detects a loaded .32 pistol with a round in the chamber.
  • 10-8 TSA Officer at AUS detects a loaded .380 pistol.
  • 10-8 TSA Officer at SEA detects a loaded .357 pistol. (Seattle Post Intelligencer)
  • 10-9: TSA Officer at PHF detects a loaded .22 pistol.
  • 10-9: TSA Officer at STL detects a loaded .22 pistol with a round in the chamber.
  • 10-9: TSA Officer at MSY detects a loaded 9mm pistol.
  • 10-10: TSA Officer at MCO detects a loaded .380 pistol.
  • 10-10: TSA Officer at SLC detects a loaded 9mm pistol with a round in the chamber. (ABC4)

  • 10-11: TSA Officer at DEN detects a loaded .22 with a round in the chamber.

  1. The TSA found 21 loaded firearms? Big deal. I found 21 loaded TSA agents. Later this week, I’ll put up a list.

  2. Notice they’re all .380’s or 9mm. Most likely carry permit holders (in this case, dolts). When I flew with my Kalashnikov’s, they didn’t touch my firearms in their case. 2 AK47’s and a 1911. The TSA guys just swabbed them and swabbed me and found out I had TNT all over me from some range time.

  4. It happens. If I didn’t know any better on one of my flights a weapon of mine had a loaded mag unchambered. I do know better but fail to see what these guns loaded and locked away are doing aside from making permit holders look irresponsible retards. Hardly a terrorist threat unless the enemy is hiding in the cargo hold with lockpicks ready to face extremes of temperature.

    Usually I pack them the night before. The art of fitting a ton of ammo and mags into a Glock hardcase is best practiced with time to spare. It looks a little like a puzzle after I’m finished.

  6. From the calibers involved I’d imagine alot to a majority of these are women who bought little 22s and such, stuck them in a purse, and forgot about them. Not trying to be sexist but I see alot of women who are talked into buying the little 22s and 32s and 380s by dumbass gun store clerks.

  7. How about gun theft from checked luggage? What are those statistics like? I’ll bet there are a lot more problems there than with loaded guns being brought through checkpoints.

    My wife and the other ladies she hunts with are driving from the Mid-Atlantic to South Dakota to hunt pheasant, rather than deal with the insanity of TSA inspections and other stupid airline tricks. I just hope they don’t stop anywhere in Illinois, particularly anywhere near Chicago.
