Springfield Armory Daily Digest: The Trump Pro-Gun Coalition, the Singing Peshmerga, and Trading Guns for Bail

As if you needed another reason to vote for him… Donald Trump Jr’s gun rights coalition includes Olympian and beauty queen – “An Olympic gold medalist, an influential lobbyist and a former beauty queen convicted of illegally killing a bear have joined forces for Donald Trump, joining his son’s ‘coalition’ for gun rights and the second amendment.”

Gun and ammo sales up? WaPo says it’s no biggie… Yes, gun sales are up before Election Day. But they’ve been on a hot streak anyway – “Guns have been hot for some time now. Beginning in 2003, gun sales have gone up for 13 straight years, although the numbers rise and fall from month to month, according to the FBI data. Last year’s total of more than 23 million FBI firearms background checks was roughly double the number for 2007, and this year is on pace to blow that away.”

FN America, LLC is launching the FNS™-9 Compact FDE featuring a flat dark earth (FDE) polymer frame and durable, scratch-resistant PVD slide coating color matched to ensure consistency. It striker-fired pistol retains the ergonomic grip angle and diamond texture grip pattern that’s standard on all FNS and FNX™ models.

Kurdish Women Battle IS With Songs — and Machine Guns – “‘We wanted to make them angry. To tell Daesh that we are not afraid,’ said Mani Nasrallahpour, 21, one of about 200 female peshmerga fighters who left behind their lives in Iran to take on the hard-line Sunni militants. A commander said Islamic State — known to its enemies by the Arabic acronym Daesh — deliberately targeted the female unit with 20 mortars when the singing began. Islamic State prohibits singing and music. It has also imposed tight restrictions on women and took hundreds of them as sex slaves since sweeping through northern Iraq in 2014 and declaring a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria.” You go, girls.

Trading guns for bail? One startup’s improbable plan for reducing violence – “The system is built on the premise that people who were arrested and cannot afford bail will trade in a gun to get out. ‘They will value their freedom over their guns,’ (Trevor) Brooks said. Along with getting guns off the street, Brooks believes that offenders are the right population to target to stop violence. Another stat: 55 percent of offenders have access to an illegal gun. ‘They are the guys that have the weapons,’ he said. ‘They are the guys that are going to commit the next armed robbery.’” What could possibly go wrong?

Your Monday evening moment of zen:

  1. avatar Geoff PR says:

I do know for a fact lawyers sometimes take guns as payment for legal services.

One shop I worked at had a lawyer pop in every few months or so selling guns he took as payment.

Interesting enough, I don’t recall them ever coming up as stolen…

    1. avatar Nanashi says:

What kind of guns were they?

      1. avatar Geoff PR says:

The ones I saw, Glocks, an older Uzi A model, High Powers, etc…

        1. avatar Warren says:

          Hi-Powers? Really? I’d have expected Hi-Points, but not Hi-Powers.

        2. avatar Geoff PR says:

They weren’t junk guns. Eh, make that most weren’t. I do recall a Tec-9 in the mix. I think the lawyer was bright enough to have at least a rough idea what they were worth…

  2. avatar Vhyrus says:

…The hell did I just watch?

    1. avatar PW in KY says:

I only made it through about 90 seconds. It made me want to use my own gun!

  3. avatar formerwaterwalker says:

I love Theresa Vail. I hope Donny isn’t hitting on her…I doubt the singing Peshmerga would take any unwanted attention. Win or lose tomorrow SHTF time has arrived. Trump/PENCE 2016!

    1. avatar Wiregrass says:

Seems counterproductive to wear all that camo, carry a shotgun coated in a camo finish and then wear shiny jewelry, BWTH, gotta have babes for the hunting show!

  4. avatar the ruester says:

Men flee the fighting while women run toward it.

  5. avatar Horacemann says:

I want mr nasty to make a move on one of those fighters. She’ll cut off his dick and that will be the end of that dirt bag.

  6. avatar Alan Esworthy says:

That video was incomprehensible, and turning on closed captioning made things worse.

  7. avatar Boba Fett says:

“A commander said Islamic State deliberately targeted the female unit with 20 mortars when the singing began.”

If their IDF is anything like it was a few years ago, then it’s safe to say that NONE of those young ladies got hit.

I can hear it now- “Is that incoming? Why is it all the way over there?”

  8. avatar John L. says:

Don’t forget to vote tomorrow, if you haven’t already done so.

    Good winds and fair fortune.

  9. avatar Stinkeye says:

Note to FN: if you’re going to specifically claim that your slide coating is “color matched to ensure consistency”, don’t use a promotional photo where the slide looks like it’s a different color than the frame…

  10. avatar Ing says:

Two of the sexiest woman-with-a-gun pictures I’ve ever seen. Why? Because it’s obvious that they know what they’re doing. Although I feel kind of dirty-old-man-like after saying that, cause that blonde chick looks about 15 (gad, I hope she’s older than that).

Any ideology that prohibits singing and music is evil and deserves to die. Music is one of the few things in this world that can make me almost believe in a God that doesn’t hate us.

The vile Daeshbags must really hate that they’re getting their cans kicked (and shot full of holes) by a bunch of singing infidel women. Keep up the good work, girls. The Peshmerga are officially the most badass group of humans on the planet right now.

    1. avatar A Brit in TX says:

It’s ok, she’s 26 so you’re good to go! Theresa Vail, former Miss Kansas and currently a Sergeant in the Kansas National Guard whilst also studying for a Masters & prepping for med school. Brains and beauty, quite a combo!

      1. avatar Ing says:

Nice! There’s nothing sexier than a smart woman who has her head on straight (and looks are a nice bonus too).

  11. avatar koko says:

ISIS does not actually prohibit singing – much of their propaganda consists of nasheed songs, only performed without instruments, which are forbidden – sung a capella, ya know, medieval monk style. Hope that Kurds wont get the proverbial shaft is slim because after ISIS meltdown/rebranding, the Iraqi and Syrian Arabs, Iran and Turkey have to deal with the Kurds, who – for both the Russia and US – are just expendable bargain card. Iran and Turkey are more valuable as allies than nascent and poor state that would require immense investment in money and manpower. Especially Turkey, has interest to induce massive Kurdish immigration from Syria to Europe – hence their supposedly anti jihadist intervention. US and Russia will not oppose this turkish plan of ethnic cleansing. Sad thing is, even Iraqi Kurdistan government will not oppose such move – they are allied with Turkey and mortal enemies of syrian YPG, which is also one of the reasons there is no chance of unified Kurdish state in foreseeable future. Still, those are very brave women.

  12. avatar Docduracoat says:

You will note It’s that the women all have Soviet era AK 47’s, and SVD type marksman rifles
Most of their equipment is battlefield pick up from defeated is Islamic state or acquired after the Iraq national army dropped it and ran away
This is typical of the Kurds, using ancient equipment to hold off Islamic State
We backed the Iraqi National Army with $20 Billion dollars
    That is correct, billion
If we had given the Syrian Kurds a few artillery pieces and some
Prop planes, we could have stopped ISIS
The Kurds are the only good guys in this conflict
They share our values of freedom, minority rights and women’s rights
they’ve created their own little democracy in northern Syria and northern Iraq
Not one American soldier was killed in the Kurdish zone during the entire 10 years of the American occupation of Iraq
America should throw his entire support behind the Murds having an independent country
Even if the Iranians and Turks don’t like that

  13. avatar Chris T from KY says:

If Donald Trump is elected president, the second amendment will have it first executive level ambassador.
Just imagine his son traveling the country shooting and conducting talks on the joy of guns. Not the joy of cooking. Unless it’s wild game.

    1. avatar Ing says:

I hadn’t thought of it in that light. Bring on the Trumps! National Range Day, anyone?

    2. avatar oldshooter says:

So do you think he could get his dad to drop the federal gun ban on all federal property, like the PO and the SS Offices, not to mention the VAs facilities? After all, it is just a policy, and that can be changed with a stroke of the pen in the White House. Then we’ll find out where “The Donald” REALLY stands on gun rights!

      1. avatar Fred says:

And maybe we can get Congress and the Donald to repeal the Reagan anti-machinegun law. DISBAND BATFE!!!

    3. avatar Setnakhte says:

Why should anyone believe that Don Jr.’s words are anything but a show? Donald Trump Sr. cares nothing at all about the Constitution.

We can believe Donald Trump Jr.’s Second Amendment claims if and only if he were to state openly that he would proudly and immediately shoot his own father to death if Donald Trump Sr. were to attempt to reinstate the Japanese-American Internment, or to torture American citizens, or to forcibly compel citizens of a given religion to wear special IDs, or to murder the families of criminal suspects without convicting said family members of any crime, or do any of the many tyrannous things that he’s proposed doing.
