“The latest one we lose, as another hole is shot into the heart of the city, is someone who actually helped Andrew Cuomo shape the SAFE Act, the state’s tough gun control law, as good as there is. It didn’t help him when he got caught in a gang crossfire.” – Mike Lupica in GOP ignores gun issue as another victim dies from a bullet [at nydailynews.com]

  1. For best result concentrate on taking bad guys off the street. Like the one who shot this dude.

Leave the rest of us alone. And stop with the gun violence theater. Do something to actually stop the problem. Any questions about how to go about stopping the problem, see above.

  2. Because taking my rights will solve random and expected violence at the ‘whatevershithole country parade’ in the giant festering gun free zone that is NYC.

Sound legit. I won’t say anything bad about the dead, but anyone that seeks to disarm the good with useless laws that will never work on actual criminals is no friend of mine

  3. So, he doesn’t even try to connect the dots. How is it that a tragedy from gang violence, perpetrated with ILLEGAL guns, is solved by more stringent gun laws?

Mike Lupica is a tool. A sports writer who thinks he is smarter than everyone promoting his liberal agenda. He has become irrelevant. And last week the Daily News announced they were letting him go. No one cared. Good riddance.

      • Maybe Hemingway was right when he said the only real sports were “Hunting, fishing, and bull-fighting. Everything else is just a game”.

        • I’ve been considering this for the last few minutes and I think writing about sports is a legit way for a man to get into writing without having to be ‘artistic’

Why a percentage are bizarrely insulting about gun owners seems odd to me. I suppose if you have a platform, stand on it..

        • There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.

        • Brenton, it seems that nowadays, sports media is as terminally progressive/politically correct as any other branch of “journalism”. Scratch just about any sportswriter and you’ll find a would-be lefty pundit underneath. I think they are “journalists” waaaay more than they are sports fans.

    • Did he try to blame black rifles again? like he did when the guy shot up the Navy Yard with a pump shotgun?. BTW, maybe they let him go when they saw that pink sweater…yeesh…

  4. He wasn’t at the parade. He was in a stupid place at a stupid time of night.

While NY has a pretty low overall crime rate for a big city, there are still some areas that are damned dangerous. Clean up the criminals and the guns will just (still) be inanimate objects.

  5. Sympathy & condolences to the family. It was not the gun that killed, it was the thug that pulled the trigger, whom was probably already a prohibited person. How about throwing the book at the shooter. Does NY even use life without parole?

  6. “But he was as good as dead when he hit the ground a little before 4 in the morning, in what we are told is such a safe summer in New York….”

A parade at 4 in the morning? Maybe the “child of the city” was working a little recreational mind altering substance….similar no doubt to the state of mind this writer was in.

  7. Read the Daily News all the time. Lupica is such a bed wetting, Johnny one note, when it comes to guns.

  8. I feel threatened by his use of violent language. I shudder at the image he invokes. “…shot through the heart…” I’m going to my happy room and sniff Play Doh. Sarc. Point being, if these oh-so-caring and sensitive types who write to right wrongs want to show integrity to their cause, then they should use their own libby language.

  9. Looks to me like the Gabay story would have gone well under the Should Have Been a DGU. It also appears to me that Gabay got what he deserved. He conspired to deprive people of their rights, he was out in a dangerous part of the city at a dangerous time of the year and at a particularly dangerous time of night and someone killed him for his combination of sins and lack of goddamned common sense. Sorry to say but just because he’s black and grew up in the Bronx and made something of himself doesn’t mean that what he made was a damned bit good. He was an activist in bureaucrats clothing and honestly the world is better off without him.

You decide by your actions what you will be to the world. Choose wisely.

  10. In NYC that already has the unSAFE act (aka NO DEFENSE Act). How did this gun magically appear and shoot someone ? Isn’t the SAFE act suppose to prevent that ? Probably shot by a Felon who can’t legally own or carry a gun. All of these laws already and they didn’t stop this death. So, the solution is to pass even more laws ? Wow, where has common sense gone ? Never-mind that this poor guy was at a parade at 4 AM. Why ? What kind of parade starts then ? Feel sorry for his friends and his family but there is something wrong with the timeline of his tragic death.

    • That was my comment. “So, how’s that wonderful new law working for you?” Maybe he should have worked on a law outlawing murder. What a doofus.

  11. 4 o’clock in the morning in NYC and he gets shot. Who would ever think the city would be dangerous at that time?

  12. Politico refers to Loopey as “Mike Lupica, the famously divisive sports columnist.” Also, he’s famously diminutive. He makes Tom Cruise look like a giant. He also makes Tom cruise look smart.

  13. It just occurred to me–since the guy didn’t take more than 7 rounds in his body, maybe he wasn’t supposed to be really dead? Isn’t that what the SAFE Act says? Maybe not…

  14. this type of thinking is rampant in new jack city. probably the overwhelming majority opinion. so, maybe the lefties got it right….people in new jack city are mentally unstable and should not have guns, legal or otherwise.

    • If being out at 0400 hrs is your justification for killing someone, you might want to talk to a lot of military, police, utilities, emergency response and retail people.

Who might just tell you to self-fornicate.

  15. Let me get this straight, Karma happened to someone that deserved it? I support the right to protect yourself, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Thanks for your support and vote.Pass the word.

  16. Folks, you’ve got to understand. The SAFE Act has nothing to do with crime or safety. It is purely about disarming the general public. These politicians aren’t worried about criminals. They’re not a threat to their power base. A group of armed citizens? Now that is a threat.
