Well put.
I’d add that (geopolitical issues aside) good people generally don’t need to worry about the intentions of other good people, at least on a personal level. Measures that only affect good people, by definition, won’t do much to stop evil people. Evil, like a honey badger, don’t care.
If the political class didn’t have hypocrisy, they’d be left with only hubris, greed, and ignorance. We wouldn’t want that, would we?
So Rinobranstache says he’ll sign it?
I believe it was all sogned as pf an hour ago. 🙂

Ole Terry didn’t make it to Peking/chicomland in time.
RINO is right. Now we get his anointed chic/door holder as successor. I hope I’m wrong about her, but good riddance to Branstad.
Now, if only we could get cops and courts to treat unconstitutional statutes as aggravated assault.
HF 517 changed this

I’m conflicted.
The point is to keep powerful tools away from people who will abuse us with them. (I have no objection to politicians’ or other damaged people’s self-abuse, in whatever form. Hey, different strokes…)
If ever there were a case for restricting a group’s rights, it’s our politicritters. In what sense are they “peaceful & responsible?” These people could conjure a disaster from the freedom to wear socks.
Really, pretty much everything should be banned for registered politicritters. I’m conflicted because if we only allow them to carry in their
sandboxchambers, we could hope for fratricide.Good point. That’s why I like our part time legislature. Those clowns only meet in session in Austin for about 100 days or so per term, basically the first few months of just odd numbered years. It presents a nice bottleneck that keeps them from getting much accomplished every two years. Then we vote again on all reps and senators before the next session.
Are there some drawbacks? Sure, like when a firearms freedom bill loses and we have to wait two years to try again. Infuriating! Generally, though, if the legislature had more time on their hands, they’d use it for expanding their power and diminishing our rights. So it probably works out for the best as it is.
Some states get it. IA also just defeated a mandatory vaccine bill for school. At least there are some regions in this country that still value the concepts of individual freedoms.
Not addressing IA specifically, I reserve my respect for places that value both individual freedom and personal responsibility. Otherwise, it’s all just fun and games at someone else’s expense.
Agree. What bigger personal responsibility is there than making the best decisions for your own family?
