Canton City Council Prez More Upset About Gun Laws Than Irate Cop

79

When Canton, OH Police Officer Daniel Harless distinguished himself during a recent traffic stop, the whole sorry scene was, fortunately, caught on his dashcam video.  As you probably know by now, the video went viral, bringing the city of Canton a tad more notoriety that it probably wanted. Now comes Canton City Council President Alan Schulman who evidently wasn’t happy enough with the brushfire Harless started. Schulman thought it would be a good idea to throw a can of gasoline on top of it all…

Question of the Day: Are Girls With Guns Sexy?

39

Most gun guys find women with guns sexy. Of course it helps if the woman in question is sexy, but the general point applies. And I think that speaks highly of us as a group. I mean, how much more sexual equality can you get than mutually assured destruction? Then again, Google search imagery on the topic delivers thousands of photographs of bog-standard soft porn-style bikini-clad silicone-enhanced “babes” with firearms. I’m not quite sure of how that fits into my “men who like guns like powerful women” meme. (I have an idea, but you’ll have to whip it out of me.) So, do you find a woman/man more sexually attractive if they know their way around a gun? If so, why?

Vz. 58 for Dummies

nzherald.co.nz reports: “Patrick Phipps, 44, a technology support engineer at the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua, was found guilty of two charges of illegal possession of a Finnish Velmet semi-automatic and a Czechoslovakian VZ58 automatic rifle following his trial in Wellington District Court today. The guns were found inside the torso and legs of hollow, uniformed mannequins in a locked room at his Johnsonville home. A third mannequin had gun parts hidden in it . . . Phipps told the court yesterday he had never seen the guns before and had no idea they were there. He will be sentenced on Friday.”

Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day: Harry Potter

13

Many internet wags have pointed out that Harry Potter should have deployed a firearm instead of a magic wand against He Who Must Not Be Named (but is on an irregular basis). Not so, according to at least one Potterite, who claims that “muggle devices go completely nuts on magical territory.” I’m not sure what that means, but I’d sure like to see a Glock vs. Edler Wand shootout. Now, sadly, or happily, I won’t. In any case, Voldemort’s evil twin/nemesis displayed a remarkable lack of wand control in the most recent movie. Both Harry and uh, some British luvvie examine a wand with the business end pointing straight at their faces. Am I the only one who cringed? So I’m calling the wand a gun and giving Harry the IGOTD nod, if only as payback for making my kids make me endure the last episode in the series.

Gun Review: Century Arms International (Wise Lite Arms) Sterling Sporter

63

There’s a reason George Lucas equipped his Storm Troopers with Sterling-based blasters and not MAT 49’s, Jati-matics or Owens. The Sterling is one sexy-looking submachine gun (SMG). It’s also got some serious pedigree. Fighting forces have deployed the Sterling SMG in many important conflicts to excellent effect. During the 1952-56 “Mau Mau Uprising” white Kenyan farmers and British counter-insurgency irregular units used the Sterling SMG to hold off determined, numerically superior forces. The Sterling also saw service in the 1948-60 Malayan Emergency, the 1969-1994 “troubles” in Northern Ireland and the 1982 Falklands War. You can purchase a Sterling for around $10k. Or you can buy the Century Arms Sterling Sporter . . .

Silencer Review: AAC Element (All .17 & .22 Rimfire)

7

Nothing in this world shoots as quietly as a silenced .22lr rifle. Nothing except an airgun, but that’s cheating and you know it. AAC makes three different silencers for rimfire calibers, the Pilot 2, the Element, and the Prodigy. I recently had a chance to fire all three from the same gun using the same box of ammunition and got it on video. Right now let’s focus on the Rolls Royce model, the Element.

ATF Death Watch 44: ATF, ICE, DEA, IRS and White House Implicated in Gunwalker Scandal

10

During today’s Oversight hearing, the Former ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix Field Division admitted to the Congressional Committee that the Internal Revenue Service, Drug Enforcement Agency, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agencies all knew about—and participated in—Operation Fast and Furious. Does William Newell’s testimony blow the Gunwalker scandal wide open and threaten to topple the Obama administration? It not, it bloody well should . . .

Kahr Agrees to $600,000 ‘Record’ Settlement Over Stolen Gun

32

Kahr Arms agreed to a $600,000 settlement of a suit filed against it over the 1999 murder of Danny Guzman. Guzman was shot with a gun that was stolen from Kahr’s Worcester, MA manufacturing facility. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence sued Kahr on behalf of Guzman’s family. The settlement is “the largest against a gun manufacturer for irresponsible conduct leading to criminal gun violence, the Center said at a news conference on Tuesday”…

What Could Possibly Go Wrong: Guns And Booze

Mixing guns and booze is not considered, among those in the know, a GTI (Good Thing Indeed) but some ‘Cool Britannia’ hipsters are out to prove us wrong with their awesomely packaged and wittily advertised vodka:

Obscure Object of Desire: 1925 Rolls Royce New Phantom

We don’t have a lot of hunting-related content here for those Armed Intelligentsia members who like to get out into the wild and bring home their own dinner. So we’ll try to rectify that by letting you know that you’ll have a chance next month to add the ultimate hunting vehicle to your garage. And no, it’s not one of those utilitarian, oh-so-common 4-wheel ATVs. This is a ride for the hunter who aspires to a higher level of comfort…

Silencer Review: AAC Pilot 2 (.22lr)

7

When you absolutely positively need to shoot something quietly, a silenced .22lr is as close as you’re going to get. It’s the perfect quiet caliber – it’s fun to shoot, is easy to silence, and cheap! AAC makes three different silencers for rimfire calibers, the Pilot 2, the Element, and the Prodigy. I recently had a chance to fire all three from the same gun using the same box of ammunition and got it on video. Right now let’s focus on the “entry level” silencer, the Pilot 2.

Question of the Day: Will You Be Watching Top Shot Season 3?

36

OK gunnies, pop yourself some popcorn, give the dog a bone and tell the kids to get outside. Season 3 of Top Shot starts August 9th! Woo. Hoo. Right? Oh, you too? Yeah, I’m not a big fan either. Like all ‘reality’ shows, it has far too much cringe-worthy interpersonal crap and not nearly enough shooting. And even when they are, um, shooting, they’re not always shooting. If I never see someone throw tomahawks while standing on a moving platform with people flinging spitwads at them in a gale force wind again, it’ll be too soon. Anyway . . .
