“First I thought I was dreaming, and then I looked out the window, outside. I was still hearing the banging, banging, banging, so I yelled to whoever, ‘Who’s that on my door? Get off my door, get off my door.’” That happened at about 4:30a Saturday morning, but Philadelphian Maxine Thompson was very much awake.

Despite her warnings, the alleged burglar didn’t stop and continued to smash her dining room window and enter the house. Thompson, going into survival mode, grabbed her late mother’s handgun and shot at the suspect. She told Fox 29 it was her first time using the gun.

“I shot at him. He turned around and he ran and when he ran, I ran down the steps behind him and shot at him some more,” Thompson recalled. “Kill him before he kills me. That’s what was going through my mind.”

We don’t know which shot got him, but got him, she did.

The alleged burglar was struck while Thompson fired at him several times. He ran to a nearby car wash and called police to report he’d been shot, Fox 29 reported. He was arrested, taken to the hospital and treated for a gunshot wound to his upper arm.

Just another one of the 2.5 million CDC-confirmed defensive gun uses that happen every year in the US.

Oh, and Ms. Thompson has a simple message for Philadelphia’s criminal community: “Stay the hell out of people’s houses.”

  1. “Remember Grandma, one party wants to take away your ability to defend yourself… the other also does but won’t actually SAY it.”
    🤠

    • Here in Texas she’d probably be arrested for continuing to fire at the retreating burglar.

  2. …In the Massachusetts, This Grandma wouldn’t have been allowed to get a firearm without a LTC/FID card without 1st complying with all the hurdles and police permission that are required to exercise her constitutional rights…And still she would have to get through the months long permit period…And hope she was selected by her local police department to win a Massachusetts LTC/FID card……Good luck…..See Previous TTAG article about the People’s Republic of Massachusetts and the restrictions of a Constitutional Right…*(Local/State Police and the State….)*

  3. Thx God for the defensive use of firearms, and yet the establishment wants to confiscate all our firearms and remove our right of self defense. This grandma has a full fledged right to exist!!! If she had no firearms in the house she’d be dead or badly injured.

  4. First time she ever fired a gun. Now she has more real world experience than 99% of the tacticool instructors out there.

    • I think granny performed better than most of that 99% would have. I’m not sure any of them can think without being laden with all the schnazzy tac gear they train with.

Maybe the burglar would have carried off all the loot while the tacticool guy was looking back and forth scanning for additional threats, or something.

  5. Kudos to this grandma!! If these idiots don’t want to get shot or killed then they shouldn’t be breaking into people’s homes!! I have NO regard or sympathy for any of them!!! Stop breaking the damned laws and you won’t have to worry about getting shot or killed. I could care less what happens to them!!

  6. ““I shot at him. He turned around and he ran and when he ran, I ran down the steps behind him and shot at him some more,” Thompson recalled…”

This could go really bad, legally, for someone. Grandma is probably okay but someone who fits the wrong narrative- with the wrong burglar- could end up paying a lot of legal bills, at the least.

    • That’s exactly the kind of thing your attorney will keep you from saying while you’re still in shock.

  7. fortunately, the shooter is sympathetic character – black granny – shooting a presumably black suspect.

a white guy who pursued the perp, and made the same statements as the granny, might be in deep shiite

  8. I’ve taught a lot of CCW classes. I told my students if you are involved in defensive shooting you’re going to want to explain yourself yo the first L.E.O.s on the scene. Don’t do it. In response to the question “What happened?” You reply, “Officer, I want to cooperate with your investigation. However, I decline to answer any questions, or make any statements until I’ve spoken with an attorney.” Sure as he’ll don’t talk to the press. Law enforcement is generally given 72 hours to decompress after an officer involved shooting before making a statement and he’ll have an attorney. Why shouldn’t you do the same?

  9. so let me get this straight: said DGU involves a woman who says:

“I shot at him. He turned around and he ran and when he ran, I ran down the steps behind him and shot at him some more,” Thompson recalled. “Kill him before he kills me. That’s what was going through my mind.”

So the threat has ended and she continues to shoot (at) him, so as to “Kill him before he kills me” as he’s running away? WTF?????

This is Philly, sweetheart, you’re gonna go down for at least aggravated assault, PIC, reckless endangerment. Especially now with Krasner as the DA. (Although I have a speculation as to why it would be that none of that happens.)
