“Designed to meet, and exceed, rigorous military standards, the P226® Combat performs like no other .9mm available,” SIG SAUER’s website pronounces. Good to see SIG grasping the .9mm nettle. That can’t be easy. [h/t JoshinGA]

  1. .9mm. Every where I turn I hear of this new wonder round. I must go to the rental range and see if I can try one of these new .9mm’s. Wouldn’t it be great to have one with the shoulder thingie that goes up.

  2. Baaaahahahahaha! WTG, SiG! It’s about time someone submitted .9mm to SAAMI for standardization.

  3. Loading those 19,000 round magazines has to be a bitch, though. On the other hand, I’m thinking follow-up shots have to be a breeze.

    • Another bonus: if you commit a crime with one you don’t have to worry about recovering your brass because no one will be able to see it without a magnifying glass. And we all know the police are not motivated enough to crawl around on their hands and knees with a magnifying glass looking for .9mm shell casings.

    • I honestly couldnt believe that Sig had posted it when I first saw it. They may need to hire someone new to handle the descriptions. If they would just send me out a sample of each gun they need a description of, I would gladly do it for free.

  4. In all seriousness, I fail to see the point of Flat Dark Earth pistol frames with black or stainless slides. If SIG is going to go FDE, then they need to be fully committed to the project and finish the slide in the same color.

    • I think the contrast is kinda cool. Im about to order some Duracoat in FDE to complete my black/FDE M&P with a FDE slide.

      • As a stylistic thing, sure. I’ve seen plenty of contrasting slide/frame setups that looked good. I quite like the SIG Equinox look, for example, and I’m leaning towards a P220 Equinox as my next handgun acquisition.

The point of FDE, though, is that it’s reasonably effective non-patterned camouflage in an outdoor/rural environment. (And by rural I include dusty third-world areas of conflict.) It just seems silly to put a visually distinguishable black slide onto a blend-into-the-background-at-25m FDE frame. Seems to me like you get that given your plans for your M&P.

        • I’m not a fan of two-tone guns, or FDE, but doing this makes sense to me. The frame is the part you are actually going to grasp, and if exposed in the sun a while the FDE is going to be a lot cooler to touch than a black frame. Not duracoating the slide to match saves a few pennies off of SIGs’ already not-so-competitive price and doesn’t otherwise affect function.

Not brilliant design work, but reasonable choices.

    • Agreed. Either the whole gun in FDE or not at all.

In my world I can only find one reason I would own an FDE handgun. If carrying the gun and I ever accidentally expose it, the FDE color is close to flesh-tone, so it might be harder for others to recognize it as a gun when they see it.

  5. Metric thinking can be hard to grasp for some people, and marketing types rank pretty low on my vision of the food chain…

9mm=.9cm They just got the unit wrong. 🙂

  6. After SIG’s recent reliability fiascos, including having their Dutch police model pulled out of service, I’m skeptical of their ability to execute a .9mm that you could bet your life on. The machining tolerances for the caliber are much tighter than with the old-school, low capacity, “fat” cartridges they are familiar with like the Luger.

  7. They’d fixed the text by the time I clicked the link. I guess the market just isn’t ready to support another .9mm handgun.

  8. Does SIG make the P226 in 40mm? Because if it does, I’m in.

BTW, I caught a rerun of NCIS last week where Abby said that the victim was shot with a 38mm. Surprisingly, there was enough left over for Ducky to autopsy.

  9. Caliber, decimal point, what a difference a little punctuation makes. I trust that a correction by SIG, now that you’ve pointed it out, will set things right. To err is human, and all of that.

  10. .9mm eh? I’d hate to see the California legal 10 round Version, as that’s going to be one tiny magazine…….

  11. I’ve never seen the .9mm(0.0354″) ammo in my life. The gun must be so tiny. Still there is a hope that people don’t post .1mm instead of 10mm.
