The guys at Benelli have long wanted a legal way to have the civilian version of their M4 shotgun mimic the same features as the military version. But that pesky import restriction thing known as 922(r) keeps them from doing it. So they asked ATI to come up with a parts kit that would have all the bells and whistles while staying compliant with the law. And not only have they done that, I actually think they’ve made it better . . .

The Benelli kit not only includes an adjustable stock (with adjustable height cheek piece) but a rubberized grip, a barrel shroud (not to be confused with those shoulder things that goes up) and a railed magazine extension that allows you to bolt more stuff onto your gun.

Another imported firearm that has a terrible stock for importation reasons is the VEPR series of rifles that have become popular among hunters recently. ATI have not only come up with a new stock attachment that allows you to mount standard AR-style stocks but also a kick-ass forend. The rail on the final version will be a little lower and closer to the gas tube, but everything else looks and feels great.

  1. Eh, I guess the barrel shroud is a good feature.. but my fixed Mesa 12.5″ stock works just fine for me which has a nice Sanoprene grip which is awesome.

  2. It looks cool. If I ever had to legally defend and justify my actions in an urban court environment after using a shotgun in a home invasion I would prefer my shotgun to look more plain and traditional.

  3. I am skeptical. I have an ATI Strikeforce stock for my Mini 14 and it is cheap, plastic, and heavy. Sure, it works ok, but the ergonomics are awkward and the folding stock wobbles.

Looks like what we have here is another shotgun with extra plastic and M1913 rails you probably don’t need.

I would need to be persuaded.

    • I bought the same kit for my Mini-14 and you’re 100% correct when you say it’s heavy. It’s damned heavy. I wanted a folding stock so I could more easily stash the Mini in my Wrangler for trails and camping but the weight took away every bit of the “light and handy” I love about the Mini. My Hogue overmolded stock went back on it. I’m still brainstorming on a home-made overhead rack for it.

  4. OMG!!! A barrel shroud? That is a dangerous assault weapon characteristic to prevent killers from burning their hands!! Shame on ATI!!

Yes, being sarcastic. I WANT ONE!!!

  5. Those railed fore ends look teh gey.

I didn’t think I would have, but I like the Vepr thumb hole stocks. They’re actually pretty comfortable, and the wood looks classic, whether it’s with a 5 round hunting mag or a standard 30 round mag.

  6. Is this for sale yet? I can’t find it anywhere. I want to buy a 20″ VEPR and have this forend on it to give it a bit aof a dissipator look. I actually kind of like the thumbhole wood stock that comes with the VEPR. Is that a 23″ or 20″ bbl in the pic?
