Firearms photographer Oleg Volk has generated some gun porn images of Barrett’s new M240 variant for our friends at Harris Publications. In the caption underneath this outtake, the vraiment Russian émigré reports that “the machine gun shown is about 5 pounds lighter than the regular M240 thanks to the billet machined receiver and a fluted barrel.” If I showed this image to my mother, she’d swear on The New York Sunday Times that civilians can buy this weapon at Bob’s Gun Store. [Note to Mexican drug cartels: contact your local Army unit to reserve your M240 September seepage sale.] Still, I think Oleg missed a trick here. He should have posed one of his gun girls with this beast. Or at least kitted-out Shane Primm in a Hawaiian shirt, Burn Notice style. Just sayin’. 1. Those belts can be a pain, that’s why I love my magazine fed RPK. It isn’t lightweight though, but it still throws up to the shoulder just fine.

  2. This looks like a better concept then the M204L that the Army is working on right now.

I’d be interested to see how well the billet receiver holds up compared to the standard receiver or the titanium receiver on the “L”.

Also, firing a 240 from the shoulder isn’t all that hard. It’s as awesome as it looks, but not as hard. I’ve got video of myself firing off a 50 round burst from a 240 with no rise.

Also, Robert, maybe I’m missing the point of your “incendiary image of the day”section, or I’m difficult to offend, but I don’t see this image as “incendiary”.
