  1. The Red Wing 592’s gotta go!. Hook shoe string loops are the kiss of death! The slang term is “trips”. Otherwise foot wear is an important part of the kit.

    • I wore 8-inch Red Wings for years with those hook things in the 90’s. They had regular eyelets at the very top, above the hooks. If I needed ankle support, I laced to the very top so they would stay laced. If I wanted them looser, I stopped at the lower eyelets to avoid the hooks, and then ran the laces around the back of my ankles and back to the front to tie off. Not ideal, but it worked. I wore them almost daily until hipsters discovered RedWings and started wearing them with their stupid skinny jeans tucked inside the boots. That turned me off the brand for several years.

The most comfortable boots I ever worn are 5.11 TACLITE 6-inch boots. They were like a comfortable pair of high top sneakers from day one, but with good tread for day hiking. Not a winter boot and not waterproof in the slightest but very lightweight and breathable. The perfect summer boot if you don’t mind the tactical look.

      • Jesus, I love the Taclites. I wore the soles smooth on my first pair and the uppers are dirty but perfect. Original laces (the sausage laces are tits) too. I probably wouldn’t want to ruck with them, but as super sneakers they are awesome. Shit insoles though. Plus great on the bike in SoCal, you can feel the breeze.

    • Are you referencing the hive basepads as bedazzled? lol.

Not sure there are a whole lot of aftermarket options for extended grip mags with the 42.
