Cops Hunting Ex-LAPD Officer Shoot the Wrong Person. Twice.

"Corona police stand guard at Magnolia Avenue overpass of the 15 Freeway. Three officers were shot Thursday -- one in Corona and two in Riverside by a gunman believed to Christopher Jordan Dorner, the fired Los Angeles Police Department Officer wanted in the revenge slayings of a college basketball coach and her fiance in Irvine." ( Irfan Khan / Los Angeles Times / February 7, 2013 )

“Los Angeles and Torrance police were involved in two shootings in Torrance early Thursday when police came across vehicles similar to the one sought by authorities in a massive manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer suspected of shooting three other officers,” lablog.latimes.com reports. “Neither incident actually involved the suspect, said Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase. The suspect, Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, was at large Thursday morning. The first Torrance incident occurred about 5:20 a.m. in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue in Torrance, Chase said. That incident involved Los Angeles police detectives from the Hollywood division, sources said. Two people were struck by gunfire and transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries, Chase said. No officers were injured. The second incident . . .

which involved Torrance police, occurred at Flagler Lane and Beryl Street about 5:45 a.m. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Chase said both incidents involved vehicles matching the description of the one sought in connection with Dorner.

And civilians aren’t experienced enough to handle firearms. And Dorner isn’t a threat to civilians. Yeah right. [h/t Matt in ATL]

  1. I was there from 0730 on, in suit and tie. I was pleased with the overall appearance of the crowd – more women and younger people there than might be expected on the pro 2A side.

The bill has several components, some of which are new to Maryland. I suspect that some portions will pass; others will get chopped out.

  2. Folks are getting nervous.

Anyone have more info on the precipitating firing?. I know from experience that officers can lie and that city officials do is a given.

  3. I went in to a local gun store the other day to get an ASAP plate for my AR. It was a bit expensive but out the door cost me what I would have paid for overnight shipping from Midway. On my way out I noticed they had .40 in stock from a local reloading company, at $35 for a box of 50. I will never do business there again. No one else in the area is selling the same ammo for that much.

Two days ago I did get my hands on three brand new (in the package) Gen II Maglevel Pmags for $20 each so that made me happy.

  5. I do agree there are extremists out there… on both sides sadly. On the anti-gun side, the most vocal, like DiFi and the Governor of NYS, ARE extremists, wanting to destroy natural rights guarded by our Constitution. Then there are those practicing for imminent all out war. We still have the functioning means to battle those who would gut our country from the inside by denying us our rights without shedding a drop of blood if we can get enough people to wake up and see the real truth. While being prepared for war is always good, it is and should always be our last option.

Bangiola calls guns like Bushmasters “stupid.” I agree… They ARE stupid. SOMEONE has to hold them, control them, tell them what to do. They are so stupid they can’t do anything on their own, not even shoot innocents.

Well played as well, Bangiola, deferring to a SCOTUS that has more political agenda than a desire to interpret the Constitution by the very document, and its supporting documents (i.e. The Federalist Papers) and try to twist it into a definition that will support their own position on the matter. A good example is the “Obamacare” ruling where We the people were told it was not a tax, and the only way it turns out, according to the SCOTUS, is it has to be a tax or it is unconstitutional. (Now all of a sudden, it’s a tax. The very thing we was told it wasn’t.)

    A) all this disarmament talk have clauses for ex police, see that makes perfect sense since they go cocoocahoo too.
    B) If he was a smart psycho cop wouldnt he have switched viechals knowing the radio would be looking for his SUV, he is probably on his way to Mexico in a Prius.

  8. Nothing like shooting up a truck with 2 ladies delivering newspapers. Over 50 shots fired (photo link below)

They also ventilated a guys honda truck. He was turned around from a checkpoint and shot by another cop responding to the above shooting.

Looks like LAPD is in full self preservation mode. What gets me is if it were a CCW holder who screwed up this bad they’d be in jail and the drum beat would be to revoke them all. But here, the attitude is cut the cops some slack.

    • Man, I can’t find 50 rounds to buy!
I forgot the Gov. has all the ammo. The DHS has bought 1.46 (B) billion rounds in the last year. (I thought the country was broke)
At the height of the Iraq War the US was running through 5.5 million rounds a month. So at that level the DHS has enough to last ~ 30 years.
DHS also bought 7000 fully auto “Personal Defence Rifles” in the last 10 months.
I love the way a semi-auto AR-15 is an “Assualt Weapon” in the hands of a citizen, but a fully auto M4 is a “Personal Defence Rifle” in the hands of LEO.

Hope they get him soon, so they won’t have to shoot up the city.

Due process is lost in this land. Why not just have obama send drones. That would be better than all those cops with scary black guns running around with bazookas strapped the barrel and who knows – they might blow up a train or shoot down a plane on accident!!!

  12. And let us all take away an important lesson from the last two months. When (we hope) supply once more catches up with demand, and ammo/gun prices get back to a reasonable level, remember what it was like trying to find supplies when the SHTF. Stock up – don’t let your supplies get back down to a “I’ll just buy it the day before I plan a range session” level. Ammo and reloading components don’t “go bad” if you store them in a dry, reasonably cool (below 120 degrees) environment. Budget enough every month to build up what the anti-gun twits refer to as “a veritable arsenal”.

    Christopher Dorner’s “manifesto.”

tl;dr: claims that because of being a whistleblower, reporting excessive force incidents, accounts of institutionalized racism against him and fellow officers that led to this.

I’m not an aspiring rapper, I’m not a gang member, I’m not a dope dealer, I don’t have multiple babies momma’s. I am an American by choice, I am a son, I am a brother, I am a military service member, I am a man who has lost complete faith in the system, when the system betrayed, slandered, and libeled me. I lived a good life and though not a religious man I always stuck to my own personal code of ethics, ethos and always stuck to my shoreline and true North. I didn’t need the US Navy to instill Honor, Courage, and Commitment in me but I thank them for re-enforcing it. It’s in my DNA.

Those of you who “go along to get along” have no backbone and destroy the foundation of courage. You are the enablers of those who are guilty of misconduct. You are just as guilty as those who break the code of ethics and oath you swore.

No one grows up and wants to be a cop killer. It was against everything I’ve ever was. As a young police explorer I found my calling in life. But, As a young police officer I found that the violent suspects on the street are not the only people you have to watch. It is the officer who was hired on to the department (pre-2000) before polygraphs were standard for all new hires and a substantial vetting in a backround investigation.

Who knows if this guy’s on the level and his claims are true. He’s name-dropped a bunch (all of which are redacted) so if he’s telling the truth there should be people to corroborate what he’s saying. Should be interesting.

    • I can’t find the link, but I also read a similar story – he was a whistle blower who charged that a superior officer used excessive force on a suspect. He was later dismissed over the case, under the charge that he filed a false accusation. The lawyer defending him was his ex-GF’s father, who is also an ex-cop.

LAPD having problems policing its own cops? Like that’s never happened before… (/sarcasm)

I suspect there’s a lot more going on to this story beyond the surface level “jealous ex-cop murders 2 people.” Of course, we’ll never know, and if Dorner is smart enough to use his military training / cop background, he’s probably long gone from LA and laying low.

I find it ridiculous how the media can portray these incidents as accidents committed by some universal force.

Two citizens were shot by cops.

This shit happens everyday from New York to Los Angeles, and everywhere in between. To Protect and Serve….yeah, to protect their pension and serve their own interests is more like it.

Oh, by the way. The US Supreme Court ruled in 2005 that LE has no Constitutional duty to protect you. Really, then WHAT do they have a duty to do? What more really needs to be said?

Then again, these proposals are a defacto gun ban for 99.9999% of the guns out there. I suggest this violates the 2nd Amendment and makes it unconstitutional.

  37. Accur81: The Texas Rangers do not accept lateral transfers. All their personnel come from the Department of Public Safety (DPS), of which they are a branch.

Years ago they would take people from another agency. An example is Ramiro (Ray) Martinez, the Austin, Texas police officer who shot and killed Charles Whitman, the UT Tower sniper in 1966. They actually asked him to be a Ranger.
Those days are over, but a friend of mine from our PD joined DPS and actually made it into the Rangers. Maybe you could contact the Texas Department of Public Safety and get the ball rolling…it takes a while. Whatever you do, you need to un-ass Cali for ni a.
