Century Arms announced the new Canik SFx RIVAL at the SHOT Show earlier this year. It’s a full-featured 9mm race gun that’s built on their METE platform.  The new pistol has a 5-inch barrel, flared mag well, 18+1 capacity and is priced so just about everyone can afford one.

We ran into Century’s Adam Ruonala at the POMA Shooting Sports Showcase who gave us a rundown on the SFx RIVAL . . .

Canik SFx RIVAL Race Gun

We got a chance to put a few rounds through the RIVAL and its trigger with its ultra-short reset just seems to want to go fast. It’s built to run IPSC, USPSA and IDPA right out of the box with an MSRP of $679.

  1. Out of the box Caniks keep getting better and better. That trigger is a mag dumper, very nice gun to have.

  2. Not so fast jr…As I recall awhile back I challenged you to post a better gun and better deal than the Reeds Sar9 sale I posted. You failed to do that because you could not. Perhaps being a bigot towards Turkish firearms is the sole reason for your spew…Yes or No?.

  3. If someone can tell me “Century’s changed and their customer service doesn’t suck anymore” I might consider spending money there again.

    • Not sure about Century Arms, but you can get most all common replacement parts and accessories directly through CanikUSA.

  4. Completely uselesss and unnessessary for self defence purpose. Just another Arms manufacturing hype to make the gun freaks wet their pants. For gods sake GO WITH TJHE PROS and these things are NOT pro arms. As for the self defence angle before you could get the thing out you are DEAD DEAD DEAD. Though I come from the UK where even the discussion about using arms for self defence is hardly ever under discussion, even I might be tempted to arm myself imn such an uncivilised nation as the USA, I cannnot see the need for anything other thhan naa simplel reliable 9mm SLP. During my time of nearly 20 years in the UK Armed Forces, many of them as a Smallarms Instructor, where my personal sidearm was a Browning 9mm Hi-Power. I in a professional capacity I consider the Browning Hi-Power pistol enough for anybody Let’s face it in extremist the average non-pro [and not a few of the pro’s] couldnt hit a man at ten.
Of all the shooting I practiced and trained other’s [and I was above Marksman standard, and marksman standard in the UK Forces is among the highest in the world] in from .22 Smallbore through every issue rifle, submachine gun LMG and GPMG available and of course hand guns, for any kind of combat shooting the Standard Issure. Browing 9mm was good enough for the UK Special Forces was good enough for me. I actually used several types of 9mm/.38 including Beretta, S&W. Star, and a couple of over complex German models from WW2. The LUGER was just aboutb THE most awkward tool ever invented. NO wonder they switched to the Browning of which we had a couople of ex-LUFTWAFFE Aircrew models.

I got my hand on these items because at the time I was SNCO/IC a RAF Armoury that acted as a depository for arms handed in under amnesty. THere were hundreds, if not thousands, of 9mm handed in as well

    • Ladies and gentlemen, what we have here is a gen-u-wine English Fudd. He also probably thinks that moving away from the SMLE was a travesty.

      • Indeed. No shortage of ‘pearl-clutching’ hysterics. Especially from someone who isn’t even ALLOWED by his better to own a firearm.

Do us a favor & stay on your moist little island, madam.

      • What you have here is herr dacian the nazi trying to rebrand himself.

Who else calls the US uncivilized?

      • I don’t understand why Albert, from the WW2 era, who is a UK citizen, would bother coming to TTAG, to talk about USA gun politics and USA gun laws. The only thing he does is come here and complain. But what does he have to complain about? He lives on the other side of the planet. US gun laws have nothing to do with him. Why bother?

    • “I might be tempted to arm myself imn such an uncivilised nation as the USA”.

Fortunately, our firearm laws stand to protect U.S. citizens and LAPR’s from idjits like you arming themselves while visiting here. You do not appear to fall within any of the provisions for an non-immigrant visa alien to possess a firearm in the U.S.A. You are not a LEO on-duty, you’re not protecting diplomatic personnel and you sure as heck would not be here to participate in a valid hunting trip.

yer tellin’ porkies now…ain’t ‘cha Laddie?

      • My in-laws and a few neighbors have had visitors from the UK and several other European countries.
We’ve gotten them out to shoot handguns at a minimum, a few have done 200 to 500 yd rifles.
It’s almost comical how they keep stating that it feels like they’re breaking the law while shooting firearms.
        They’ve all enjoyed it throughly.

        • Tim,

Unfortunately, “most” includes most of our fellow citizens, and particularly our local idiots, MinorIQ, dacian the stupid, rant7, and the nameless, brainless troll.

As B. Franklin said, in response to a woman inquiring as he emerged from Independence Hall, “What sort of government have you given us, Mr. Franklin?”. “A republic, ma’am . . . if you can keep it.”

Many (most?) of our fellow citizens don’t seem to want to.

    • What the hell you limey bastard. You all cucked years ago. That’s the reason we kicked your ass. Take your uneducated FUDD attitude somewhere else.

    • Though I come from the UK where even the discussion about using arms for self defence is hardly ever under discussion.

Then why are you talking about it?

      • anonymous,

It’s the Leftist/fascist version of the First Amendment – everyone is entitled to THEIR (the Leftists) opinion. Because they are “civilised”, ya see (according to them and their dickless friends in the EU), they don’t do these things. They don’t win wars, either. But, that’s OK, they have us to take care of them . . . until we get sick of it.

    • As for the self defence angle before you could get the thing out you are DEAD DEAD DEAD. Though I come from the UK where even the discussion about using arms for self defence is hardly ever under discussion, even I might be tempted to arm myself imn such an uncivilised nation as the USA

Why bother? Before you could get the thing out you are DEAD DEAD DEAD. Right?

    • We haven’t had the need to listen to the British since we beat them a few hundred years ago. Ain’t gonna start now

    • “uncivilized”

Coming from a country that has to hide it’s violent crime behind the “if not convicted, it’s not counted in statistics” crowd. How’s that pointy knife & scissor murder thing working out over there, f*ck boi?

Also, it bears repeating moron race, i.e. competition guns, are not intended as defensive weapons. GFY.

    • “Though I come from the UK where even the discussion about using arms for self defence is hardly ever under discussion, even I might be tempted to arm myself imn such an uncivilised nation as the USA, I cannnot see the need for anything other thhan naa simplel reliable 9mm SLP.”

You can defend yourself in the UK? I thought that was forbidden.

Can you talk about knives next from behind your moral superiority and civility?

    • Albert the Subject,

Nice to hear you ignorant opinion. Feel free not to burden us with further opinions.

Not useful as a self-defense gun???? Are you frickin’ stupid?? (Yes, yes you are.) It’s not a good carry piece, but I’d be perfectly happy to have one in my nightstand if goblins came calling one night.

Not “necessary”???? Oh, I forgot, you’re a subject/slave. No, for subject p***ies like you, no gun is necessary. News flash, Albert the Subject – some people enjoy shooting targets. Some people enjoy competing in target and tactical competitions (just like we like to race cars, too). What we choose to arm ourselves with, for ANY legal purpose, is literally none of your (or our government’s) frickin’ business.

Have a nice day! Enjoy being a subject. Make sure you check in with your Queen and make sure she’s still taking care of you. Oh, and if you have the capability, grow a set – your pathetic little island is in DIRE need of more testosterone.

    • Very discerning how this individual slights a very fine weapon. I would ask that perhaps this UK’er kindly STFU and stay “over there”. By the way, I have trained with the BRITs and they are outstanding soldiers!

    • Calling the $600 canik useless and then stating all you need is a browning hi power, a $1500 pistol is like saying why drive that reliable pickup when all you need is this Ferrari.

    • Wow your a pompous idiot. Good stay in your country. You would never last here. Wow. Are you sure you are a male? I am sure being in person with you. Your attitude would be different.

    • Lord Hall,
If you visit remember to leave your Red coat at home. Some of the pesky Colonists may still hold a grudge.

  5. It’s nice that someone put a race gun at an entry level price point. I’ve never understood turning a $650 Glock into a $2000-$3000 gun.

But then I don’t really “get” race guns either.

    • – But then I don’t really “get” race guns either.

I kinda do. Inasmuch as I borrow force multiplier things from the race crowd, and shooting techniques where applicable.

    • strych9,

While I am personally not willing to invest the money in a full-on “race gun”, I do have a Glock 34, and have done tactical training and even a couple of local IPSC competitions with it. Those competitions are fun, and do help hone tactical skills.

Still, that type of competition is an acquired taste, like driving dirt track. I’m sure it would be fun, but I’m not interested in investing the time and money. But I’m totally fine with anyone else who wants to. That’s why it’s called the RIGHT to Keep and Bear Arms.

  6. Given the weight limit in USPSA of 59 ounces for Production or Carry Optics (which this gun will compete in since it’s 9mm and doesn’t qualify for major power factor in Limited or Open) – a plastic gun weighing half as much isn’t even remotely competitive; at any price.

  7. Great gun. When can I own one in Maryland.
Al Hall your a loser. Bet my 15 yr old daughter could out comp shoot u. With any 9mm. Lol
    Dork
