Arsenal, the Bulgarian manufacturer of some of the higher end AK clones sold in the United States, has decided to end production of their 5.56 caliber AK-74 rifles. The decision comes after what the company describes as an audit of recent trends in the gun industry, which I’m taking as CYA language for “scary black rifles are being demonized and we don’t want to take the heat.” Make the jump for the press release . . .
After nearly a decade since its initial introduction into the firearms marketplace, the SLR-106 series is getting a change in to “Collector’s Item.” Production on the series officially ended. The SLR-106 rifle and pistol series was Arsenal’s answer to the 5.56 caliber as the company looked to compete in that arena. The years to follow brought much success with several variations and configurations, robust sales and recognition as one of the industry’s best — due in-part to its chrome-lined and hammer-forged barrel.
“In my opinion, the SLR-106 series of rifles, perfectly bridge the gap from east to west. Furthermore, the advancements made in the manufacturing this rifle series will be seen on future models by our company for years to come.” – Walker English, Sales Director, Arsenal, Inc.
A comprehensive audit of the current offerings in the firearms industry, recent trends and near-future shifts with regard to technology and advancement all factored into the decision to discontinue the series. Arsenal’s obligations with military and government contracts, production for the movie industry and commitments to distributors and dealers also shaped this decision. The current stock of SLR-106 5.56 caliber rifles and pistols will continue to be sold until supply runs out. Arsenal’s availability list is displayed below. Additional SLR-106 products can be found by checking with Arsenal’s distributors and various dealers nationwide.
It looks like a knife and a meat cleaver to me. I didn’t see a machete.
This is why I wish I could carry concealed in uniform. Sure, the chances are slim nut jobs with a machete will attack me, but if that chance does come up I’m looking at a nice funeral with a lot of friends. I do carry a knife and that is it.
LaPierre is the single worst thing that ever happened to the NRA. And he will continue to be, until the Board gets the message and gives the jerk the boot.
Crickets.
Fighting a war against “terrorism” is a misnomer at best. The civilized world needs to awaken to the truth about Islam. It’s nothing but a barbaric death cult with far-reaching tentacles that have infiltrated the highest levels of our own government. In fact, the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood has seized control of both DHS and the Bureau – controlling the training and investigative processes.
Why would this imply that they are scared of taking heat if they didn’t stop production of all calibers? It probably just doesn’t sell well.
Agreed. AK’s don’t do much for me either.
It is interesting their wordings… They openly stated that these guns are what are being supplied into Government & LEO’s for existing contracts. Notice not mentioning a relative or ending time frame. This leads me to believe indefinitely.
That means for who? Which Gonverment?
Obviously they supply to eastern regimes would’t one think?
Sorry for the necro lol but I know they supply some RPG-7 clone to the Indonesian Armed Forces.
Could this be used to make a rifling button, or at least contribute to making one? (asked the guy who barely knows what he is talking about, so please don’t set him on fire)
did the soldier not try to cooperate politely? The NY Times should send a team over their to study what the soldier did wrong.
Sen. Twee is truly as dumb as U.S. Sen. Barb. Boxer, which is to say: If he had one more brain cell, he might make a synapse.
Just when you thought Kalifornia’s choice in leadership couldn’t get any worse…Well.. It dose… This dipsh*t’s going to take the anti- gun “ball” from Difi and run like Forrest if he’s given the chance…
They will shift their machines over to making 1911s cuz no one makes those.
We are fighting with all we got. Collecting funds on pig roast and one meeting at a time. Hope you guys can donate to the CCDL to help in the fight.
Hopefully because they’ve already moved on to the next titillating story.
BZZZZZZ…
Don’t blame the MSM for ignoring this. The MSM is a lot more concerned about its rights then it is about ours.
I am not sure why you say this is Kimbers first all steel 4 inch carry gun. I have a Kimber Compact stainless that I bought in 2000. The first time out with it I shot 500 rounds of just about every type of ammo Ball, lead round nose, lead swc, hollow points both reloaded and factory I had NO Failures of any kind. This was with the Kimber magazines which I agree are junk. I use Wilson Combat mags in both of my Kimbers now. The above compact now has over 10,000 rounds thru it and it never fails. I have shot it after rolling around in the mud with it. I have shot it in the snow and after rolling over it in sand. It just always works. I have had a similar experience with my Eclipse Target II although it has not been thru the hard use as my compact. I actually followed Kimber’s 500 round break in and I had no issues with it either. I trust either gun with mine or my families lives under any conditions. I need to add that I replace the recoil spring in both guns every 3000 rounds.

I don’t how this is them cowering to “scary black rifle” hysteria. I think it’s more them knowing that the 5.56 isn’t their best seller and they can focus their efforts elsewhere.
When you tell me they are ending the production of 7.62 and 12’s, then we’ll all agree they’ve jumped the scary black rifle shark.
We need someone to build a site which can accept emails addresses and submission forms for editors of local papers.
With a massive list of contacts built, any user can use the site to generate an email to all those MSM editors. (sending it from a central service will get you blocked too easily).
I tried building up a database on reddit, just collecting addresses but it didn’t take.

Which is ok, I am a rather new user on reddit, I didn’t expect everyone to jump on it just because i created a subreddit.
However the idea is still valid and is being requested by other people.

TTAG: Can you set something up with your blog software where we can submit contact info for our local news papers and subsequently use the collected contacts to let us send links and stories to all the news agencies/editors?
Movie looks good. i can’t wait to see it.
THats what you call a civilized country, where everybody watches while someone is hacked to death, long live the queen. 2 world wars showed Britains courage, what happened to pussify these great people into piers morons? Randy
This bill has zero reciprocity which means no other states will offer reciprocity. This bill is a sellout and full of bs. I can’t get out of my car and walk over to pick up my kids from school without the risk of being arrested. I filled out a witness slip against it.
More TTAG paranoia. Some of these post don’t even make sense.
There you have it…the REAL reason for gun control.
Legislators ….find a NEW way to tax the citizens. Seek an issue – ignore facts – claim to represent – write a bill – pass bill – cite graves of children – collect TAX.
REPEAT – Repeat – Repeat – until all you have is surrendered to some one else including your rights.
“And if the old Nagant was good enough for Vasiliy Zaitsev, it should be good enough for most of us mere mortals.”
That’s like saying the jaw bone of an ass is the perfect every-man hand-to-hand weapon.
Of course, in Sabah, where tourism and diving are the two key elements
that bring the region to the attention of the world, it is very important
to provide the best possible conditions in these areas,
so that everyone may be satisfied. Boracay has some of the best
dive sites not only in the Philippines but in the world.
