Ammo receipt 10.25.13 (courtesy The Truth About Guns)

Matt in FL was kind/bored enough to keep track of all the entries in our How Much Did RF Pay for His Ammo? contest. [Click here for the full list.] And the winner is . . . Tom in Oregon. I paid $1413.64 at Red’s Indoor Range in Pfleugerville, Texas. “Tom was only $5.83 off your final price,” Matt reveals, “and he didn’t go over. The next closest post-tax person was at $1421—$7.36 away and he went over. (You didn’t specify ‘without going over’ but Tom would still win if you had.) The closest person who specified pretax was more than $30 away, at $1270. So Tom in Oregon gets the ammo, without question.” If Tom emails us at [email protected] specifying which 100 rounds he’d like—9mm, 5.56, 5.7 or .22—we’ll send it post haste. Thanks for playing!

  1. Congrats, Tom!

Good price on most of it, but Walmart and several other shops around here are selling Fed bulk-pack 55 grain 5.56mm for $450/1000.

Is the 9mm Premium FMJ some kind of L.E. practice/qual load?

Thanks for the contest and nice prize, RF!

    • Of course!
I’ll take anybody shooting anytime. Got a nice place 29 miles from my house with a small mountain as a backstop. I use old doors for 1,000 yard plus plinking.
Bonus is the chanterelles are exploding up there. Harvested 50 pounds in two hours.

  2. good job, Tom.

Getting to prove that ammo is still ridiculously expensive**, priceless. (there is a pun in there somewhere)

** a friend emailed me just a week ago: since when is a brick of .22 LR ammo $40??!!

  3. Damn, the Federal 5.56 did me in. I would have been soooo close.

AND I FORGOT SALES TAX, DERP

  4. Dang it! My SWAG guess was 1417.22+tax. I toyed with the idea of just leaving it at that number without saying+tax. too!

  5. And that right there is the reason i reload.it might be a huge time sink but its time i get to spend with my son as i teach him how.its also the only reason i can shoot my 300 blackout and my 22tcm.

  6. I suppose Matt in Fl has to be good for something! (Don’t flame me. I am seriously being sarcastic)

  7. He owns a Big Fiddy. Has access to a private range. Goes to Africa for dream hunts. Wins free ammo on the innertubes.

He doesn’t always drink beer. But when he does……..

    • Yeah, I’ve decided that if he and I ever meet, he’s going to buy me a beer, because his life is already good enough.
