Author Jorge Lopez Gallardo, a physics professor at the University of Texas at El Paso, said that Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman has developed a powerful network of politicians, industrialists, business leaders, bankers and security officials that may exert influence on the presidential and other, lower-level elections . . .
Phil Jordan, former director of the El Paso Intelligence Center and now a law enforcement consultant on the Mexican drug cartels, said he can’t talk about the fraud aspects of Mexican elections but agrees with Lopez that Guzman has amassed considerable power.
“Chapo is the most powerful drug lord in the world, and he has the money, guns and power to influence anything he wants to influence,” Jordan said. “If Chapo is allowed to run the Mexican government, it will be back to business as usual.”

How about this? Legalize illicit drugs and end the failure of drug prohibition like we did in the thirties for alcohol. Then the raison d’etre of the guns and the money and therefore the power goes away instantly.
I have no use for drugs of any kind in my life. Let stupid people do stupid things and pay the price. Smart people will get away from stupid people.

It could be argued that the legalization of drugs would be one way to fix that problem.
You know, I used to think that drug use should remain illegal. Like opium and China I thought legal meth/pot/etc. would harm our country.
Screw it. Now after a change of heart, I say let em’ all O.D. But there cannot be a safety net for junkies. None at all.
yeah because prohibition in the 20s worked so stupendously well LOL. decriminalize drugs. if you are doing heroin in a public stadium, you should fined. whatever. but imprisoning people for a natural substance (weed) is utterly stupid.
