New web ads send viewer to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot’s “You’ll fit right in here in Texas!” Facebook page. Text as follows:

Here in Texas, you will have the liberty and the opportunity to achieve your dreams. On top of that, we have no income tax, yet still manage to have a multi-billion dollar budget surplus.

We have right to work laws and a reasonable regulatory environment. Texas has created more than 275,000 jobs in the last year alone! And we’ll fight like hell to protect your rights.

You’ll also get to keep more of what you earn and use some of that extra money to buy more ammo.

I hope to see you soon in Texas. In the meantime, sign up to show your support for our second amendment rights.

Sincerely,

    • Fvck you California, I’m also moving to Texas! Goodbye State Taxes, 9% Sales Tax and being unable to protect myself outside of my home. The Liberals have driven this once great state into the ground. Time to move on.

    • It would be awesomer with open carry, even if I would likely not avail myself of that right (though not having to fret about printing would be nice). Losing the business gross receipts tax would also help bring jobs.

      • Idaho is pretty similar to my homestate of Montana. relatively low cost of living, plenty of guns, and sparsely populated.

they have a helluva desert in the south, along the Nevada border. Quite, frankly, i love the challis area.

        • Florida has the largest population of concealed carry permit holders, plenty of guns, no income tax, (~6% sales) our “Guns Across America” rally is expected to be so big they couldn’t have it in the capitol, and the legislature is considering open carry for the 2013 session. Also we have the Keys, amazing beaches everywhere, and the weather is great most of the time. (Minus the whole hurricane thing, but you get used to it) For RF we have a large population of hot Israelis living in South Florida alongside hot Latinas. We’ve got the best orange juice on the planet, some good beef, and if they’d allow us to drill, we’d have more gas than the state would ever need… And it’s already a popular destination for New Yorkers.

  1. If you care about other civil rights you might find that Texas cramps your style. NH has the same amount of gun freedom, lower taxes, higher income opportunities, lower crime and is moving in the right direction with other important freedoms too.

I don’t want to spam, but seriously consider the Free State Project!

      • That’s not my experience. In fact, I was very, very pleased and surprised to find that most gun owners seem to be very libertarian leaning. Doesn’t get much better than that.

      • No, that’s a good point, and you’re right, we’ll have a fight to make too. It will be significantly easier here than it will be in other moderate states, though, and her bill doesn’t have much of a chance.

Edit: Wow, that isn’t even what I was thinking of. She’s focking nuts! I can’t help but get a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing a movement I’m part of upset her that much.

    • Last time I checked, NH was chock full of Dems, turning bluer by the election cycle thanks to the constant influx and influence of Massholes, and did not have a whole lot of high-tech jobs available.. Those that are are in Boston, which socks you for income tax so if you commute in from NH you’re getting the worst of all worlds (high NH property tax, high MA income tax).

I looked into it, and it would have been convenient as my family’s a lot closer to NH than TX, but I was just not feeling it.

      • NH Dems tend to be a lot better than MA Dems, and the influx is actually mostly Libertarians/’Pubs moving in.

I feel you on the High Tech thing, I’m in that industry too. Luckily my company is global, so I’m good there. There’s also a reasonable selection of other ISV’s/Tech companies, and even better, very well paying blue collar jobs.

I had to consider the possibility of working in MA again, and while it wouldn’t be great, the property tax isn’t much more than the towns we’d live in in MA, and since there’s no sales tax and the cost of living overall is lower it was still worth it to us from a TCO perspective.

It might not be for everyone, but it’s certainly for me.

    • I lived there, the only place I know of where you can shoot pigs with a supressed FA from a helicopter, which is totaly ill-eagle in NH

      • Is that how you spell illegal? I’m reasonably sure we don’t have wild pigs here, regardless.

        • Your not one for metaphors are you?
By the way this is not your personal blog and attacking fellow posters will get you banned

        • Ummm…. not a metaphor. I’m not sure what it was supposed to be.

I’ve been coming here for over a year bud. I’m not too worried about being banned. Even if I was, there wasn’t an attack on anything but basic grammar, and I don’t think I was the one carrying it out.

      • Also, AFAIK for feral hogs there’s no permit required for hunting on private land, no bag limit, no mag limit, no feed-stand/lighting restrictions, and no caliber minimum. Heck, they sell feral pork and bacon in the supermarket round here!

        • Not being a hunter I’m not terribly familiar with the laws, but all my pals that are prefer the rules here.

  2. I can’t wait to get back to Texas! I’m in MA right now and it looks like its about to get even more kooky!

  3. Great ad! Texas has done a great job pulling in like-minded Americans and businesses from other states fed-up with excess taxes, regulations, and police-nanny state rules.

    • I was a guest of the Air Force in the fine city of San Antonio in 1969. Can’t say I enjoyed being an Airman off base very much and if you don’t like the weather, just wait 15 minutes, it’ll change. BUT, some 40 odd years later Texas is starting to look like a lifeboat. Texas will give you a new definition of Big Sky Country. Oh yea, 1 more good thing, they have a whole bunch of horses!

      • Sammy, I was a guest of the USAF in San Antonio and I have to say, in all honesty, that San Antonio in 1976 blew like a slide trombone.

        • Don’t hold back, Ralph. Tell us how you really feel.

You know, when you keep these feelings bottled up inside you, they can cause ulcers and stuff…

  4. I dunno, someone here (Tyler?) was describing the process they are going through to get a carry license and it sounds like a real pain in the ass.

Here in WA (in the heart of Seattle no less. Oooh scary liberals!) it took all of an hour and $60 to get to the point of waiting on the Feds. Then it showed up in the mail a few weeks later.

    • Our CCW system SUCKS and cost too much 🙁 You wind up shelling out several hundred for the permit and required instruction.

    • The process varies at the moment. Some towns are basically shall issue, and will give you a full blown LTC as long as you pass a background check (and you still have to take an NRA course; that’s a state requirement). I got my LTC in Boston, and there are a whole hell of a lot of loops to jump through, up to and including a qualifying session at a State Police Barracks (I shot better than both of the troopers that were qualifying at the same time, BTW). Even after all that, Boston doesn’t grant full LTC. They give you the “Class A” permit, but put “Target/Sport Only” on it, so you can’t technically carry concealed. Carrying openly is recommended only for those seeking suicide by cop.

  5. negative. im staying in fl. ive lived in tx 3 years. that place sucks. i lived near wichita falls btw

    • To be fair Wichita Falls isn’t really North Texas but instead Southern Oklahoma just cut off by the Red River.

      • according to a map its still texas… but still i traveled all over texas but i never liked it. the closest i have come to enjoy is houston but still never got adjusted to it. now south florida?? paradise!!

        • Sorry Duke, my comment was meant to be tongue in cheek but my sense of humor can be dry at times. These days you’ll see more OU flags in North Texas then UT and Texas has its own OU license plate.

  6. I have lived here all my life in Fort Worth now and love it. You are all welcome just be sure to leave any terrible voting habits in these blue states you come from.

    • At least move to the big cities like houston, Dallas, or Austin so your liberal views are contained to areas already vote democrat.

      • Meh, I like the food, arts, etc. all those liberals bring, but I’m happy to live far enough out of town that I don’t have to pay the taxes for the government demands all those liberals bring. Hell, I almost hope Austin bans gun shows, since there’s a nice convention center in Bastrop that’s closer to me, it would be way more convenient!

  7. (disclosure – I lived in Dallas for a year and I currently live in Oklahoma City).

Hmm, this is not telling the whole story, with 275k new jobs and still ranked 9th highest poverty rate in US? (source US Census).

Just realize jobs jobs jobs doesn’t always equal good wage jobs. Something to think about.

      • I doubt wage levels are as much of a contributor to poverty in TX as is the fact that the state has (1) a higher percentage of its population belonging to minority groups that face persistent socioeconomic challenges across the country, and (2) the longest border with Mexico of any state. That is not to suggest that there is no room for improvement. By most measures, though, I’m happy to have been born here, and I hope to stay here ’til I expire. And the summers aren’t all that bad…just stay out of Houston.

        • as a Texan who’s looking to switch jobs; at least in the Panhandle the job market sucks hard if you want to make more than 20k a year.

      • I’ll take a state where at least people work rather than mooch off those who do.
        See CA for an example

    • There was actually an interesting radio show segment here in N TX about the poverty level stats, with some dude who’s got a book out.

It seems they don’t adjust it at all for cost of living in different regions of the country. So the fact that Texas has a low cost of living makes it look like more people are living in poverty, but it just ain’t so.

I make more money here hourly in IT than I ever did in silicon valley, and it’s not taxed.

  8. If I was the governor of any state from Georgia to Texas, I’d be writing letters to the CEOs of every arms and ammo company that has a factor in the northeast or Illinois, inviting them to come to my state and offering them the same incentives I would any automotive manufacturer I was trying to get to locate there.

  9. We should give a group name to the states that pass laws to fight gun bans.

From hence forth, I christen thee : “Free America”, (smashes champagne bottle)

  10. Texas may have to start annexing territory from adjacent states to accommodate the influx , or form a loose confederation with adjacent states to share economic and regulatory policy. I suspect that would cause the heads of a few of the lovely folks in DC to explode.

And adopting the suggestion of Roll, they should call it “Free America” with the motto: “We actually believe in the Constitution.”

BTW, I live in NH and love the general approach to guns and other civil rights here. But…the invasion from the South has begun, and I fear for the future of this state.

  11. Nah, Nathan Deal (GA Governor) is NOT a conservative 2A supporter, he’s a Fudd at best. He was caught making a recent statement that basically said he wasn’t pushing any gun control in this state, but wouldn’t outright say he opposed it either. That being said, the PEOPLE of Ga would LOVE to see some firearms manufacturers move this way…:)

  12. We need to form a state where only the most radical liberals are allowed, let them have an orgy of all the far-left laws they’ve ever wanted then sit back and see how well it works for them.

    • I live in that place. It’s called Connecticut. Things are not working out so well right now. Perhaps when the recent proposed bill to limit all firearms to single shot passes the General Assembly it will finally immanentize the eschaton.

  13. Yes, but, what kind of gun owners? A bunch of Yankees!!!!??? No problem, we got plenty of boots and cowboy hats. Beer, BBQ, and Propane. You have to be willing to learn the language tho.

    • I live in Texas – have for 18 years – and I was born in California and lived there through college. I don’t miss it for a second. Freedom feels much better than the California weather ever did, which is really all that state has going for it.

  14. I wonder how many men would actually contemplate this and how many of their wives would say F’ you, we ain’t moving because of your guns. Just saying. Otherwise, its a great ad and makes me want to go.

    • I would absolutely face some resistance of that type. Not saying it couldn’t be overcome, but it would take more than 2A concerns to get her to uproot from our current community and start over somewhere else.

    • The only city within Texas I could convince my wife to move to would be Austin. Still, I think Texas is highly overrated when it comes to their gun laws. They don’t even allow open carry!

  15. I am writing my lawmakers a new message every day using the convenient contact tool at http://www.congress.org

You can email your federal officials as a group (put in your zip code and it will automatically select your representation), and in a separate step you can email all of your state officials (same deal).

This is what I sent today:

“I am against the proposed AWB and magazine limit. Millions of Americans use millions of semi-automatic rifles and standard capacity >10 round magazines for the LEGITIMATE purposes of home self-defense and sport.

Banning or prohibiting these firearms will unjustly force millions of Americans to choose between being at a disadvantage to criminals, gangs, and home invaders who would do them and their loved ones harm or becoming criminalized themselves.

This is not the rational gun regulation you are looking for, because it is disproportionately harmful to law abiding citizens and actually grants an advantage to criminals.

This is irrational, fear driven, and rash policy comparable to the the vast expansion of executive power under President Clinton and President G.W. Bush which President Obama has done nothing to repair, the Patriot Acts which allow our leaders to deny citizens their rights for the sake of convenience in accomplishing military goals, and the war in Iraq which is to blame for our debt crisis. We need to cease this pattern and begin to take our own philosophy of freedom and informed empirical scientific democracy seriously! Stop cutting corners to address the issue of the moment, because those cut corners become lost forever.”

  16. Actually, I might be considering a move back to Washington State. No state income tax, and the gun laws actually seem to be quite good despite the fact that it’s a very blue state. Plus, no armadillos or fire ants. Thoughts?

  17. As a New Yorker fighting tyranny in my home state I saw this site and man you guys ROCK!
    Hurray For Texas!!

I need to find a place to retire where I can be free. The Republic of Texas is looking good.
    Will you grant us Asylum?

Not kidding about moving to Texas. I have more in common with Texas than NY

  18. Honestly, ya’ll should just pick a state from the south, they’re all pretty good. As a spot for homeville here, Georgia does have state income tax, but it’s low, and the easiest carry process in the region. Pass a fingerprint check and voila! you’re now free CC or OC damn near everywhere. And we have reciprocity with 26 or 28 states.

  19. Well, Attorney General Gregg Abbot why aren’t you doing something about this:

Andrea Hernandez Stands Firm, Asks School Officials to Respect Her Religious Objections to RFID Tracking Program, Let Her Use Old Badge & Stay in School

That’s in the San Antonio area.

  20. I moved to texas from illionis in 1997 and I couldn’t be more happy then before. The economy in illionis was so bad and there is more opportunities in texas. The price of living is more affortable too.
