A columnist for a major American newspaper has called for the State Department to include the National Rifle Association on their list of state sponsors of terrorism. Let that sink in for a moment. New York Daily News columnist Linda Stasi wants America’s oldest civil rights organization classified as a terrorist group. Which would make NRA members terrorists or, at the very least, supporters of terrorism. Commentators have snickered and pointed out the delicious irony of someone named Stasi advocating the use of federal power to roll back an enumerated civil right. But branding the NRA a terrorist organization could well be a sign of things to come. Check out Stasi’s “logic” . . .

One terrorist group is responsible for more civilian deaths since December 2012 (the Sandy Hook massacre) than Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hamas and the Taliban. Yet it is the only nearly-state sponsored terrorist group that is not listed by the U.S. State Department as such.

It is the National Rifle Association and for their unending lobbying that’s kept a lid on gun control we now have 428 times more American deaths by gun than deaths by foreign terrorists.

Stasi’s column totes up 87,423 deaths since Sandy Hook, then credits the pride of Fairfax with the deaths of every random mugger’s target, every gang-banger’s rival, every disarmed pizza delivery dude who’s been gunned down. Not to mention suicides and all the victims of broken specimens like Adam Lanza, Dylann Roof, Jared Loughner, Vester Flanagan and Chris Harper-Mercer. Got that? The NRA is to blame for all of those deaths, by actively and deliberately supporting the conditions that led to those deaths.

But wait, you say, the State Department’s list is restricted to foreign governments that fund and promote terrorism to further their twisted ideological goals. Don’t bother Linda with bureaucratic details.

…(T)he NRA should take its rightful place on the State Department list of terrorist organizations, because its influence is more of an immediate threat to the lives of our citizens than foreign terrorists.

Although the NRA is not an officially state-sponsored organization it is the supporter of the state with its massive member and lobbyist donations to our elected officials.

After the last no-vote on gun control, the British newspaper The Guardian did an analysis that showed 45 of the 48 senators who torpedoed gun control in Congress “have received money from firearms lobbyists.”

Stated more clearly, lobbying legislators in support of an enumerated civil right is a terrorist act. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. If it’s OK to call for charging those who don’t believe in the theory of global warming with racketeering, calling out the National Rifle Association for support of terrorism isn’t much of a leap. But it is deeply worrying….

If and when a spree killer is revealed to be an NRA member, an anti-gun Executive could take Stasi’s advice and then unleash the full force of the nation’s enormous anti-terrorist apparatus against the NRA and its members, using pre-existing unconstitutional legal powers. All hell would break loose – justifying further federal violence. Unlikely? Yes. Inadvisable? Certainly. Impossible? No.

I’d like to hear a CNN journalist ask Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Martin O’Malley to disavow Stasi’s suggestion at the first Democratic debate. Meanwhile, keep your powder dry.

  1. Oh is she REAL sure about the total civilians killed by the radical Islamic groups she mentioned? Since I’m sure AQAP and company beheadings, honor killings etc are fastidiously added to FBI crime statistics.

I know we are in the post-journalistic integrity era (TTAG excluded, naturally) so I don’t know why I get so worked up when these people just publish outright lies with impunity.

  2. That sounds like legally actionable libel and defamation, to me.

But if we’re going that route: we’ve got plenty of documented evidence of CSGV condoning and encouraging actual threats of crime and terrorism. Are you sure you want to play this game, sweetheart?

    • Go easy on her. She accidentally dropped her last Prozak into her girlfriend’s toilet and just doesn’t have enough energy to pick up a refill.

    • You’re thinking too small. How many of these mass shooters are Democrat voters? Obama supporters? Did Chris Dorner’s manifesto not praise Hillary Clinton and Dianne Feinstein for their efforts to curtail our gun rights? While none of these shooters has ever been an NRA member, a majority of them have been direct supporters of the DNC and leftist politicians.

The logical conclusion is that the Democratic Party is a terrorist organization.

      • Amy Bishop was (is) a rabid Obamao supporter. Jared Loughner reportedly railed against conservatives on occasion (probably for using radar and lasers on him). Just a sampling of leftist loons.

    • I think we have a lot more to lose going down that road. The NRA has millions of members, whereas the CSGV is like three guys in a coffee shop. MDA is a couple dozen stay-at-home moms and retired grandmas.

    • Yep. I hope the terrorist Nra hires the most vile terrorist organization in the world… The American Bar Association…

      • Whao, you guys were all posting while I was typing (see down below) “Stasi” is the abbreviation for “Staats Sicherheit” or “State Security”–East Germany’s post-war Gestapo.

      • Was? I mean yes those guys that are recording all of my locations and transactions are not even close to the stasi… The n sa is a group of true patriots that would never willingly trample on civil liberties. Well now that my daily sarcasm and two minutes hate is coming soon(Orwell reference anyone?)…

  3. News Media: We’ve carried all your water, Mr. President! What should we do next?
President Obama: Wait for my word, then jump.
    News Media: How high?

I’m not a joiner of anything, but I’m seriously thinking about joining the NRA just to give Stasi and her comrades the middle finger.

  4. If this be terrorism, let there be more of it.

OTOH, The Daily Snooze is almost deader than Jenner’s nuts. After shopping the rag around for more than a year, the owner took it off the market when the high bid was $1. No zeroes. Just $1.

  5. When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

King George called the army of the revolution criminals too.

  6. So, a few hundred years ago she would have called George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, and Benjamin Franklin terrorists. I will gladly stand with men like that against the likes of Linda Stasi.

    • Today is a good day for it. Wouldn’t it be great if Stasi became to NRA membership what Obama is to gun sales.

    • It’s well worth it. I upped mine around 1990 when they ran a special. It’s more than paid for itself.
Now instead of yearly dues, I can throw money at the 2A foundation, or…

      • Yep. I (finally) became a Life Member for a down payment of $25 and QUARTERLY payments of $25 on the balance of $475 — or you can pay $25 monthly, if you wish.
I even signed up my son-in-law for an annual membership at $20. I expect he will be offered the same deal for life membership, once he is on the rolls.

  7. Forget about an NRA member doing a massacre. What’s hundreds of times more likely is one of our regular trolls snapping and acting out. Then the police will crack his computer and out will come TTAG, front and center.

    • Yeah, I haven’t seen Mikeb1304981390 or however in a while. I always assumed he changed his name or stopped wasting his and our time.

  8. Seldom have I seen a more appropriate surname: “STASI”=”Staat Sicherheit”=East Germany’s version of the KGB.

  9. Given the U.S. is incapable of effectively fighting terrorists I’m okay with that definition.

  10. The NRA is funded and supported by the people, millions of US citizens. The NRA supporters vote on important issues and topics and the board comes to decisions on the stance and actions taken based on those votes. The NRA then talks to industry leaders, politicians, and other groups on behalf of their supporters. The NRA is a better run representative democracy than the US government.

That might be why the left hates the NRA, because the left really wants to dilute and ultimately get rid of any semblance of democracy. Firearms in the hands of private citizens is another objective on their list, but dismantling a working example of representative democracy is higher on the list.

Who would have thought a Stasi would hate democracy?

    • This is the central point behind Citizens United Supreme Court ruling. If they make “corporations” not “people”, we shatter the ability for like-minded individuals to combine and increase the volume of their voice.

The NRA is a corporation and so is your local PTA – we get rid of that potential voice so we can take everyone and smash them into singular little pipsqueaks who can then be ignored.

  11. So the NRA is responsible for every wanton, careless misuse of a firearm? What dark circle of Hell awaits the AAA?

  12. So this so called columnist is saying that the largest groups freedom loving and willing to die for this country, more than half the population is a terrorist group? Why don’t we just call these yellow journalists non American’s and send them to the middle east?

  13. I’m sailing it’s called a broad reach. it’s a short reach to my rifle…many like it…mine etc, etc, etc.

  14. Well the day the federal government starts to declare groups who support essential rights are terrorist is the day when open rebellion becomes a duty.

  15. The NRA was founded in support of the freedoms and rights of all Americans. It is only logical that lefty Linda would see that as a threat to her political belief system.

    • That would make you a supporter of terrorist organizations, and as such you are required to disclose this prior bidding on government contracts.

  16. Context does not matter. US GIs killed 1million or so Germans and Japanese in World War II. We must be murderers.

  17. This is the mindset of Europe that has infected both coasts of the U.S. In a dystopian future where the gov. is going door to door to collect firearms from the terrorist (sic) members of the NRA I can see pressure from the coastal idiots on Europe to provide the troops to do it.

    • You beat me to it. That’s what I get for not reading every comment before I post up.
      Thanks though.

    • That’s the stat I always trot out whenever I have a gun discussion. Doesn’t make anyone propounding gun control any happier, but bystanders tend to appreciate the irony.

  18. There are several immediately obvious things wrong with her demand. Well . . . . okay, there are more than several, but here’s a few.

    1. The woman is an idiot because to be listed as a “State sponsor of terrorism, you must be one of the “Countries determined by the Secretary of State to have repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism . . ”
    2. Her “facts” are pathetic since Boko Harem alone has been responsible for the eradication of entire villages in one day in Nigeria, and Al Quida has killed thousands in Yemen, Syria, Pakistan, etc.
    3. To my knowledge, none of the active shooters have been NRA members. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong on that.
    4. This to me is an actionable ground for legal action as slander and libel. That would help get some money in the NRA coffers for lobbying.

This is just another idiot Liberal proving that she fits right in with Feinstein, Sharpton (remember his claim that “millions” of people are killed in America with “assault weapons” every year?), and Bloomberg. They will lie and falsify and play on the emotions of the ignorant to get what they want. THEY are the true terrorists.

    • Groups on the left gain membership the same way terrorist organizations do, by exploiting emotionally comprised people in the wake of a tragedy. A certain scene from the film Team America, and a certain story about a Blackhawk and goats, comes to mind.

  19. I agree with her logic 100%. After the NRA, lets list Volkswagen! Eventually we’ll get around to General Motors, Ford, R J Reynolds, and Saturn (I’m stuck with one).

    • Let’s include the AMA. Medical mistakes by some accounts are responsible for over 400,000 deaths each year and probably more. It’s not like doctors go out of their way to report mistakes.

      • Except when it comes to vaccines. People accept the govt/Pharmaceutical line on vaccines without question, much like religion, despite the numbers of documented deaths the medical profession is causing yearly in the USA.

  20. Huh? Well, I have never been a member of the NRA even though I am a extremely long time gun owner and hunter. Think I’ll go get a membership now.

Obama said it is time to politicize it, so I am, I’m going to wear it loud and proud now. Make it a single issue to vote on? Sure, no problem.

The NRA just gained a member today.

      • It reminded me that my membership had lapsed. I renewed moments ago. I realize Stasi writes for a rag no one reads, but why not use this as a rallying cry to enroll more NRA members? We’re always saying the garbage the anti’s spew ought to hurt them, and if we enroll just one more person every time something like this hits the news, eventually it will.

        • I renewed just a day before the shooting, after letting it lapse for a year. Also renewed my Gun Owners of America membership.

  21. It is the National Rifle Association and for their unending lobbying that’s kept a lid on gun control we now have 428 times more American deaths by gun than deaths by foreign terrorists.

So hold up. Terrorists are people – But guns are not. How can you compare deaths by terrorists (people) with deaths by gun (non-people – made of metal, springs, wood, plastic, etc). There seems to be more to it that is missing here. Was there someone that operated that gun? Why are terrorists responsible for their actions, but the people operating a gun are not and not even in the picture here? Instead, the attention has been redirected from the individual operating a gun to the gun itself. Are those people not responsible for their actions???

  22. The Loony Left loves it when there’s grassroots activism and genuine people rallying for a cause, as opposed to major corporations and politicians exclusively.

But when the cause changes to something they don’t agree with, suddenly said activism falls under the umbrella of terrorist activities and security threats…they so hate it when their tactics are used against them.

  23. Stasi wants to use the power of the state against an organization of freedom and civil rights minded Americans. Seriously.

  24. The “othering” is well under way. I’m OK with being despised by the despicable. In fact, I relish it. We are certainly living in an interesting and historic era. Keep your powder dry indeed. As some wags say, we’re not going to be voting our way out of this mess we’re in. Bummer. I was hoping for a quiet retirement a few years down the road. Adjust and adapt.

  25. If I was the NRA, I’d be on the phone to legal council exploring options. There comes a point in time when being quiet and putting up with certain things ends. Burying someone in expensive litigation is the equivalent to punching a bully in the mouth, which I have been known to do on more than one occasion. It is EXTREMELY satisfying.

  26. Completely unsurprised and slightly grateful. Just wondered why it’s taken opponents so long to cast the NRA as The Great Satan.

What seems to be lost on those engaged in hyperbole is that these claims only strengthen the resolve of gun -owners, NRA members, and others that advocate for 2A.

  27. This doesn’t surprise me in the least.

A few weeks back climate ‘scientists’ wrote Obama and asked him to *prosecute* anyone who they deem a ‘Climate Change Denier’.

If you don’t agree with man-caused global warming, off to federal prison for you.

Using the RICO statutes, no less:

“Scientists from several universities and research centers even asked Obama to use the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) to prosecute groups that “have knowingly deceived the American people about the risks of climate change, as a means to forestall America’s response to climate change.”

  28. Another bitter, HRC lovin’ NewYorkElite wannabe, head-spinning, hair on fire while itty-bitty-brain implodes. REDRUM!

Reminds me of another favorite movie line- (cue Wagners ‘Ride of the Valkeries’)
” I love the smell of progtard desperation in the morning, it remind me of VICTORY!”

  29. Given that the NRA membership is that of law abiding citizens who are concerned about the 2A, as well as the support it provides to other shooting and sporting organizations, I guess by proxy all the members are terrorists. Not something I thought that I would be called. I am a patriot. 23 year vet. And hardcore supporter of the US Constitution. History tells us that those who would take our freedoms are the fascists, the terrorists, and the tyrannical dictators. Somehow this so called journalist seems to have her facts all a skew. Where do these people get their data? Saying because of the NRA:

“we now have 428 times more American deaths by gun than deaths by foreign terrorists.”

How does she qualify that? Is she indicating deaths on US soil? Because I could see what she means there. Sure we have more deaths between US citizens, and foreign aliens, on our soil than at the hand of an official terrorist. We have not had that many terrorist attacks here, yet. But she cannot be indicating worldwide. People skew the numbers, spin the data, to support their point. That is a given. But this lady is way out in left field. Hopefully she gets left there.

  30. Time to re-up my NRA membership. And how hard would it be to ruin a stasi’s life? Heil! Wait -wrong German secret po-leece…

  31. This doesnt shock me one bit. The left is out of control with what they are trying to do and you can be assured that another big push is coming to try and not only choke off gun availability but also confiscate our existing weapons. Something serious is going to happen when they start rounding up gun owners. You know its coming.

  32. Hey guys! This is a good thing! The US government has funded terrorist organizations in 35 countries (that we know about) and pumped countless dollars into countries with terrorist organizations to “reform” them, although it never works. This could be the start of government funding for the NRA!!!

  33. If she’s going to pander to the feelings crowd, she might as well stick the AMA on there as well, they’re responsible for 5 times as many deaths a year.

  34. So much smugness in one small package.

This is a Hail Mary. They’re losing ground fast, and they know it!

  35. How is the NRA responsible for any deaths? Is terrorism on the NRA’s agenda? Have they plotted or carried out any terrorist activities? Obviously not. They simply help to support our rights under the Constitution. The Constitution has been trampled on so much as to make it virtually meaningless. But to publicly associate the Constitution with terrorism is a new low. I joined the NRA right after Barack’s attempt at gun control after Sandy Hook. Don’t get me wrong. That was a terrible, almost unimaginable crime, which still makes me sick to think about. But it was also completely one sided. There was nobody there to defend all those kids against this crazed killer. Had there been, things might have turned out very differently.

  36. Seems there’s a terrorist no one mentions. Hildebeast was responsible for killing 4 Americans in Libya, and instrumental in supplying arms to ISIS in Syria, and still lies about it.

  37. Funny CAIR is a known terrorist organization, and no one says a damn thing about their politics or lobbying.

  38. When you have nothing you attack the good citizens of America and infer millions are terrorists. Outlandish accusations are signals of desperation seen From Hillary and Obama all the way down to the Stasi.

  39. “It is the National Rifle Association and for their unending lobbying that’s kept a lid on gun control we now have 428 times more American deaths by gun than deaths by foreign terrorists.”

Soooo……..unending lobbying, or in other words, dollars spent lobbying, constitutes terrorism. Funny, the Framers of the Constitution called that petitioning the government for redress of grievances, and enshrined it in the Bill of Rights. Hell, it’s the First Amendment! We already knew she hates the Second, now the First. Are there of people’s civil, constitutional, human and natural rights which she does not abhor? Discuss that among your yourselves.

Assuming lobbying = terrorism, who else is a terrorist by her standards? Who ranks more highly than the NRA? Well.

    Top Outside Spending Organizations, 2013 – 2014

1 Democratic Congressional Campaign Cmte $68,816,937
2 National Republican Congressional Cmte $65,292,508
3 Democratic Senatorial Campaign Cmte $60,206,597
    4 American Crossroads/Crossroads GPS $47,875,750
    5 Senate Majority PAC $46,651,418
6 National Republican Senatorial Cmte $39,733,073
7 US Chamber of Commerce $35,464,243
    8 House Majority PAC $29,422,890
    9 Ending Spending $29,006,316
    10 National Rifle Assn $28,212,718

OK, the NRA cracked the top 10, barely; but Democrat and Republican parties themselves in their various incarnations take a majority of the top 10 slots; raking in hundreds of millions of dollars for the purpose of influencing public policy by various means. So by this lady’s standards, the two major political parties are by far the greatest terrorist organizations and have been since the 19th century. Who knew?

  40. These people (anti-gun fanatics) can’t even identify the really real enemies of this country.
The NRA is not merely a pro-gun lobby, it’s a defense from those openly attacking the constitution, lobby. They know they’ll never muster the constitutional convention numbers required to amend the constitution, the way the founding fathers clearly provided, so they’ll run multi-pronged campaigns of disinformation and dishonesty to accomplish through legislation what they can’t do constitutionally. They are acting as the anti-constitution lobby.
Does defending the U.S. Constitution make one a lobbyist?

  41. As an NRA Life Member, I am giving serious consideration to rounding up a bunch of other NRA members to file a defamation suit against her and the Daily News – this is outright libelous conduct. I don’t want the NRA to pursue it because they would look like the bad guys picking on the little retarded journalist. This statement is directed not only at the NRA as an organization, but its membership specifically. I think libtards of this ilk need a taste of their own medicine. I’m so hurt and offended I can’t leave my home anymore – I’m afraid to go to work or the range because the liberals might consider me a terrorist – I’m in mortal fear they might attack me and eat my brains and liver, or worse yet, force me to watch endless clips of ObaMessiah, Hillary, Feinstein, Pelosi and Reid!

  42. Just look at Linda Stasi. She has that typical liberal mentally ill stare. She looks like she could be the next shooter.I’m assuming she gas an education other then liberal arts. She should actually use her brain and the real facts and realize guns are not the problem. The problem is mental illness and the liberals closing almost every psychiatric hospital nation wide and that clinics are not only far and few that handle mental disorders are not the answer. Most need constant monitoring and observation. And almost every mass shooter and thug is a liberal and supports the liberal agendas and the tying of law enforcementschool hands. New York for example. The same city this rag Linda writes for, under Rudy Guilliani the crime and murder rate dropped from being the highest per year to being close if not the lowest of any major city, the the liberal that ran under the GOP so he could run against a Democrat and Bill Di Blasio, have tide the hands of law enforcement and those numbers have sky rocketed. So Linda Stasi… You and that rag paper need to go.

  43. She is STUPID and I call her out and any other moron that doesn’t understand the right to self defense. Some of the disarmed people murdered by the governments of the world, Christians Rome, Jews Nazi Germany, Aztecs Spanish, Maori of NZ and Aboriginals Australia, Scottish William Wallace, the Irish, Welsh by English and the Native America by the US government. THIS is why we need guns to protect ourselves from those who would subject us to their whim and if this is not enough just google dictators.
There are over 400 gun laws on the books and they have done nothing to stop the violence. Because of the winey few we are chastised for wanting to protect ourselves. We NEED guns to protect ourselves from criminals in and out of the government. I deserve the right to protect myself and if you don’t like it tough $hit.
The 2nd Amendment was put into the Constitution so the people could protect themselves from a corrupt government. That is why it says “shall not infringe” so we can have what the government has to prevent a Holocaust. I believe the people should have what the government has including machine guns. The only gun control law there should be is that criminals can’t have any firearms. No double standards put DC politicians on Obamacare and SS.Thanks for your support and vote.Pass the word.

  44. Stasi is the same idiot who lost her $40,000 engagement ring at work. She then proceeded to go batshit crazy and write an article berating and accusing her co workers of stealing it. It’s no wonder she no longer works there, she’s a lunatic and a spaz.
