Optics-ready threaded-barrel 9mm pistols are all the rage. The latest to jump on the tactical train is Springfield Armory with their new 19+1 XD(M) OSP (optical sight pistol). It comes with a second non-threaded barrel for those of us who don’t own a can and is available either with or without a Vortex Venom red dot. Here’s their press release . . .

Springfield Armory® Releases XD(M)® OSP™ with Threaded and Standard Barrel Included

GENESEO, ILL. – Springfield Armory® announces the release of the XD(M) Optical Sight Pistol (OSP) with a threaded barrel and an additional non-threaded barrel included.

This 9mm package from Springfield Armory is all about options. The optics-ready pistol features a factory milled slide and co-witness suppressor height iron sights, allowing the operator to choose the optic and silencer that fits their needs. As an option, the OSP comes with a Vortex® Venom red dot sight pre-installed. The Venom offers a three MOA red dot – a perfect size that balances fast target acquisition with precision. The Venom features ten levels of brightness and a top loading battery compartment that allows the optic to maintain zero through battery replacement.

Out of the box, the XD(M) OSP is ready-to-go with the threaded barrel and thread protector installed. In addition, a non-threaded barrel is provided for those who would like to swap between using a suppressor or going without, or for those frequenting restricted states where threaded barrels aren’t legal.

The 4.5” Melonite® treated hammer-forged steel barrel is an ideal size to complement the addition of a suppressor so that the weight is balanced and the pistol is soft-shooting.  A one piece full-length guide rod manages recoil and helps to keep rounds on target through rapid fire. The Mega-Lock grip texturing provides a comfortable yet secure fit in your hand with the full size grip frame, a feature that is among the most notable of our XD(M) products. The backstrap is interchangeable and a small, medium and large option are included to customize the grip to the hand of the shooter.

“You have the versatility of both the threaded and non-threaded barrel without the hassle of going aftermarket which tends to produce complications in fit,” explains Springfield Armory VP of Marketing Steve Kramer. “Because our barrels are factory crafted, there is no risk of an ill-fitting barrel and we are able to provide the kit at a lower cost to our customers.”

The craftsmanship of the XD(M) semi-auto provides a consistent and reliable platform for the flexibility to conduct a variety of missions.  Mounting plates (adapter plates) for the Vortex® Venom, Burris FastFire™ 2, Burris FastFire™ 3, Leupold DeltaPoint®, Leupold DeltaPoint® Pro, JPoint® Sights, and Trijicon® RMR® red-dot optics are included. The XD(M) OSP kit ships with two 19-round magazines for 9mm ammo. Two 10-round magazines will be provided for those in restricted states.

The Springfield XDM OSP with threaded barrel and additional non-threaded barrel raises the bar in versatility, and displays the quality performance you expect in a Springfield Armory handgun.

About Springfield Armory®

In 1794, the original Springfield Armory was designated as our national armory by General George Washington, and began manufacturing muskets for the defense of our young, free Republic.  This monumental institution went on to serve as a think tank for developing innovative firearms concepts and producing some of the most storied rifle platforms in our country’s history.  The Armory functioned as a firearms supplier for every major American conflict until 1968 when the government sadly closed its doors. In 1974, two centuries after its inception, Springfield Armory Inc. in Geneseo, IL revived the iconic heritage of the Armory to carry on its legacy and restore the Springfield Armory name.

Springfield Armory Inc. engineers, manufactures and assembles their high-quality 1911, 911, SAINT® AR-15 and legendary M1A™ lines of firearms in Geneseo, Illinois. Since 2001, Springfield Armory has enjoyed a strategic, collaborative partnership with the state-of-the-art factory in Croatia working hand-in-hand to develop and engineer the multiple award-winning line of XD® polymer pistols that have become staples in the US marketplace. We strive to honor this responsibility as guardians of the original Springfield Armory legacy by manufacturing the highest quality firearms to enable responsible citizens to preserve their right to keep and bear arms in the defense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

  1. Why even show these traitor’s garbage. They and rock river are responsible for that horrible revival of the Illinois gun dealer’s licensing act. This act could be coming to a state near you!

    • I have one XD40 12,000 + rounds out of it not one single hiccup EVER.

But I will never buy another thing from that company.

Just picked up a surplus TCC Tokarev Friday, bought the new Ruger Security 9 back in January. No more SA’s
even though I would trust my life to the XD that I have, because again not one single misfire, jam, it eats the crappy ammo, still tight and going strong.

  2. Nice looking setup.

However, like a couple others have said, it’s from “Cut Out” Springfield.
They are dead to me because I get to choose where and when I spend my money.

I especially like the “rights and principals secured by our Founding Fathers.” bit. That made me laugh.

  3. Man I must really hold a grudge. As soon as I read the title to the article the first thing that jump in my head was a big fat NOPE.

    • First rule of Sniper Club: Do not talk about Sniper Club.”

There are only two kinds of people who brag about their 862 yard sniper shot on the internet. I will leave it up to you to identify them as an exercise.

  4. Politic aside, I think it’s stupid to include 2 barrels. It’s $100ish in cost that most people aren’t going to need. They make the red dot an option, and a second barrel should have been too. The only rationale I can this of is if this the result of some stupid import law, where they had to import with unthreaded so they would have just thrown them away?
