Earlier today, I dissected a Daily Mail story about pandemonium at an Old Blighty bank. Patrons and staff had a conniption after discovering a toy gun lying under a desk. You know: just lying there. Minding its own business. Oh how I laughed! There’s you gun control nation, I said, wagging my finger at the Brit’s ignorance-based paranoia. And then this: “Franklin police said a handgun was found in a seat at the Thoroughbred 20 Cinema on July 4,” newschannel5.com reports . . .

A female patron found the loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol when it fell from her seat as she was sitting down for a movie around 5:00 p.m. She immediately alerted movie theater workers, who called police.

OK, at least they didn’t send in an armed response unit, but c’mon, this is news? Apparently so.

Police were investigating and attempting to locate the owner of the gun.

Franklin police said anyone who finds a gun in a public place should stay with it, keep others, especially children, away and call 911 from their cell phone, or send someone else for help. Never pick the gun up, and do not walk away from it until after police have arrived.

And be very, very quiet.

  1. This happened in Franklin, Tennessee, not Massachusetts. But I do agree with you about gun control/paranoia.
